I am also going to get a PvP spec, which you recommend?

If you're using swords you're pretty much stuck for combat for that too, just with more PvP talents like imp. sprint and stuff you might not get in a PvE build...

Personally, I think subtlety is the most fun PvP talent tree when you get daggers.

man.... as someone who kind of stepped away from Waracraft in 2008 (Fallout 3!, then more Fallout 3, Then New Vegas, then more New Vegas! etc) going back is so weird, I sort of played it during Lich King (got to level 77), but even that took me over a year, and then catacysm came out, I bought it but didnt even really play it much. So I go back today and of course my guild is gone, and it seems half of them either left the server, or changed race (it was a small guild anyway), so I roll a hunter, I always wanted to be a hunter but never wanted to commit to a elf dwarf, orc or troll, so I thought a human hunter would be cool, but when I rolled it, I dont know I must have had the things in mind I heard over the years that hunters could do (search for pet abilites off other animals to teach them to their pets, rare pets had rare attacks, etc) I did some reading online and it seems all this was removed?

tldr: coming back to the game from basically 2007 to now it just seems so different...I dont think I like it....

Rare pets having rare abilities meant that you were essentially required to farm said pet to be competitive and all hunters would have whatever pet had the highest DPS.

Spirit Beasts still do have a couple of extra abilities, although they aren't unique to the pets, but to the Spirit Beast family.

hmmm maybe its just the mindset of things should be neat and cool to find out, but it seems nowadays everything has been datamined, theorycrafted, min-maxed and wiki'd to death it just ends up making online games...so ......homogenized... i guess. that the one thing I still like about single player rpgs, stuff can be cool and hidden and broken as hell, but often stays that way.

Eh. Not sure I agree with this. Anything that can be dissected will be dissected no matter the game. It's like reading gamefaqs for a new game you buy, if you've already researched all of this stuff you've taken the 'wonder' out of it for yourself. For some people (like me) that's ok, but if that's what you're looking for it's something you just have to voluntarily not do, just like with any game. There were never really absurdly rare pet abilities or anything, you DID have to get a pet and learn the abilities, but it was trivial to do that's why it was taken out, it became an annoyance mostly. For instance, each 'family' now has a special ability, and pets have talents and stuff, they're infinitely more customizable than they used to be. If you don't want to know what abilities what familes have, don't look it up, go tame things and be surprised :)

Honestly, I prefer the way a lot of things worked in Vanilla... but you're kidding yourself if you think things weren't min-maxed and theorycrafted back then.

Been wondering something lately and maybe one of you guys know this: do heirloom items quit working exp-wise as soon as you hit 81 or 80? Like should I wear the heirloom gear up until I hit 81? Leveling an alt and this will be important to know soon.

They stop working at 80.

I'm not sure. Considering how many people i see rock up in random BG's still wearing BOA's you would think they still work to 85 lol.

If i had to guess i would say it stop working right at 80 because that's when you head to the cata areas.

The shoulders, chest, ring, trinkets and weapons stop scaling and giving experience bonuses at 80. The head and back pieces continue their effects and scaling until level cap.

To be honest, the weapons and most other hear get outclasses by BoE greens from the auction house at levels 77-80 and the killing potential outclasses the experience bonuses of the pieces as well. I usually just replace them at 77 with appropriate Cata greens.

I just tried LFR. Healing 25 mans is the most boring thing ever and no wonder LFR is always short on healers.

I love healing 5 and 10 mans but 25 is such a snoozefest when it's not an actual difficult raid of some sort. Even then I didn't really like the few old-school 25 raids I tried at the time.

I had way more fun 3-manning Tempest Keep today with two friends. I gotta say, transmog is a cool way of revitalizing old content, especially stuff I can do in 2-3 man groups.

No way upgrading to cata greens makes you do things 25% or more faster...especially since the heirlooms affect quest turnins and whatnot too. Weapons sure, but those don't give xp anyway. The marginal stat gain on your chest/shoulders/ring are definitely not 25% of your killing power.

I quit wow after hitting 85 a week after cataclysm launch... Just wasn't feeling it. Is the raid finder and other changes worth coming back for?

Why did you quit? No one to raid with? Heroic dungeon difficulty?

Gearing up for normal mode raids will be very quick. But RNG LFR loot + 25 different people each week is a very inefficient way to gear up if you only do LFR. It might be less frustrating if you were doing it on multiple characters but it sounds like you didn't want to level alts anyway.

Was doing icc heroic 10/25 before cataclysm launch easy, the my guild broke up and doing heroics a week after launch was a horrible experience so I quit. Wasn't fun having to play without my guild, and just didn't feel the same.

Start of expansions are a letdown for me, all that work to kill lk heroic then going back to not being able to do a heroic 5 man and having greens/blues again just wasn't fun.

I don't know how fun the fights are in normal and heroic mode.

Firelands was boring as hell in normal mode when you have the bosses on farm and Demon Soul is boring in LFR mode.

I guess it comes down to can you find a guild with heroic potential cause I bet Normal mode Demon Soul is boring.

So, you WANT things to be easy then is what I'm getting out of this? It's easy to get epics again, heroics are easy again, raids are easy to get into on the low end again. It's how it always is at the end of an xpac. I mean, cata heroics got nerfed after just a few weeks, and gear/strat/everything inflation has made them a joke. In fact, the way you phrased that makes me curious: Was Wrath when you started the game?

I never tanked the LFR bosses so far, because i dont feel like trying to deal with 24 impatient pugs who will go crazy if i do 1 mistake. Some bosses seems pretty simple to tank, but im still not sure what's important to know for each of them. Anyone feel like telling me please? :)

Blah how do I come back from being away since January, all Blackwing/Other old god place gear, and still do 12k more dps than some scrubby DK in all 378s(or whatever the drops are) in the new dungeons? Also did the SAME dps as a retadin in raid gear, /smh.

What is my RealID? is that what I sign in with? I have noone to play with right now, wouldn't mind hooking up with some gaf peeps for dungeons/raid finder/pvp.

Got Yorsajh down early in our raid last night, second night working on him, so we thought we'd have a quick go at Ultraxion before clearing normal.
3 attempts.

My current Transmog set. I've been getting constant whispers asking where I got all of the pieces so I would say its a success.

Fair enough, cheers. About time I found a social guild that isn't shit really. :)

You can however enter BWL and MC solo. It doesn't like you jumping into the instance portals but there are no restrictions of entering them through the conversation options from the dude or the orb.

No, you can't enter MC or BWL solo through the NPC or orb.

Talking about soloing older content, can I create a raid group without having to involve anyone else?

Well, sort of. You can create a second account for free. The only restriction is that you can't level past 20. You only need to reach level 10 in order to form raids. I quickly leveled a mage to 10 on a second free account when I got tired of begging guildies for invites to form raids when soloing for transmog gear. You simply launch the game twice and log into each account, then form your raid. You can close out of the second client (with your lowbie) once the raid has formed.

I've been doing it every Tuesday. Did you do the attunement quests?

The only restriction is that your character has to be level 10 or higher. This stops the gold farmer spam abuse, which is why they didn't want free accounts forming raids in the first place. I was able to join a raid with my free account level 10 mage no problem though.

Weird, all the info I can find says you can't join parties with characters above level 20 with the starter edition stuff.

Speaking of attunement - I think it would be kind of fun if they did an attunement again for a raid. At least a simple one (not saying they have to go Onyxia or Black Temple on us.)

It adds character/flavor.

Sure, you can kind of say they did it more recently with the ICC 5-Mans in Wrath, and the current Caverns of Time dungeons, but that's not the same as fighting your way through the depths of Blackrock Caverns (with a quest) to attune yourself to Molten Core, or through the reaches of Upper Blackrock Spire to get to Blackwing Lair.

You could argue that they did it somewhat with Ulduar and Algalon's Key, but that's sort of a special case where only one person in the raid becomes attuned (at a time.) Though really all of Ulduar is a special case.

I agree with this statement 100%. However, majority of the community would disprove of this, and cause blizzard to lose a large subscription base. Many of the "new" players, or the players that never truly experienced attunement or working hard to even get into a raid wouldn't like that atmosphere. When people have grown up in the game to getting things easier then before, or have never experienced attunement, they wouldn't want to have and work just to raid, and then have to do more work and actual progression.

LFR example, I've done it twice, mainly because I don't pve, but that's an example of easier than should be. People are used to it, and a lot of people enjoy it due to not having to get a core guild, do it whenever, etc. Sad enough, but I'd love to see attunement come back, and actual skill based pve. However, I don't think that will ever happen in World of Warcraft again!

So turns out trying to pvp with S9 and blue gear from like, a year ago... not the best idea in the world.

Not really fun getting repeatedly stomped while trying to gear up, /smh

You could buy blue pvp gear in the AH. The item lvl is 377 these days.

Or you could run multiple heroics and just trade justice points into honor points.

Oh well shit, I'll be doing that right away.

I had no idea.

Coming back after being gone for so long... sheesh.

oh and I need those justice points for my outdated pve gear, haha. Gotta get to LFR status.

On top of attunement, all sense of progression is lost. You now get to level 85, get gear that is a half step below current normal mode gear and you're good to go. You don't run heroics -> BWD/BoT/TotFW -> FL -> DS... it's Heroics -> higher end heroics -> Dragon Soul
