In 2006, then-Steelers linebacker Joey Porter was cited by police in Pine Township, another suburb north of Pittsburgh, after two of his dogs got loose and killed a miniature horse on a nearby farm.

tebow christ thats funny.

It'll get more exciting. Just wait until James Harrison gets arrested for strangling a deer to death at his kid's school picnic day.

Something like that.

School picnic day? That sounds like a Baltimore thing, where a bunch of flaccoized kids in purple stare at one another while the normal kids are forced into the library.

I take issue with PFF for a couple of reasons.

First of all, as a sport, not all statistics are equal. Baseball makes the most sense because it's a pitcher against a batter - producing a consistent outcome. It makes some sense for basketball as well, with only five guys on the floor and a handful of outcomes. Also, with baseball and basketball, you have a large enough sample size - 162 and 82 games respectively, to draw meaningful conclusions. With a 16 game unbalanced schedule, it's very uneven.

On top of that, with 11 guys on the field for each team, a plays success is dependent on his teammates. Jesus Christ couldn't cover Crabcakes if his front seven was made up of bums like Shaun Cody and Chris Gocong.

Or, hell, offensive line play is difficult to measure on a statistical basis. Is it Matt Birk's fault that Cam Cameron was a moron and didn't make it a point to put extra bodies on Vince Wilfork? Centers are never the strongest guys on the offensive line, and even a guy like Ryan Kalil is going to lose that matchup.

Anyways, that's my rant about using statistical models to judge individual players in football.

And, yes, I've taken statistics and realize that it is valid on a relative basis even with a small sample size. Aaron Schatz is just a cocky son of a bitch, and I enjoy the true drama of sports. Outcomes aren't dictated by what should happen, and that's what makes us sports fans go rabid.

I don't see how anyone that isn't getting anything would give a fuck how much the NFL. If you do that's the same as caring what a video game sells, or consoles sells that you have no self interest in aside from nerd fapping to useless numbers.

Okay, but you are getting the draft in primetime, and games all but one Thursday this year.
Thursday night games are terrible. These teams look awful when they have less than 3 days to prepare.

Now, I'm sure the NFL will try to fit as many Monday or Bye week -> Thursday turnarounds as possible, but there's going to be a lot of shitty football on Thursdays.

It's more an indication of the NFL's success in cultivating the biggest sports league by far. Hence Goodell's gaudy paycheck.

The draft is shittier than it used to be, I don't care that it is in primetime. Games on Thursday always suck so I don't see how this is positive even if its another game I can watch all the way. I'm sure if i really sat down here and thought about it I could come up with a million things that Goodell pissed me off with and thats not even including BS fines!

If you dont think console/software sales matter then I really dont know what to say to you. I am still pissed that the DC didnt get more support. Hell I am getting a Vita tomorrow, if it tanking in the US like it did in Japan support for it will dry up quick, so yes sales absolutely affect you as a customer.

You think these are good things?

No I think they are great things. I loved watching the draft in primetime, and more football on TV is definitely a good thing.

I don't have an issue with the Steelers receiving fines for illegal hits. I have an issue with the players (of all teams) being treated like criminals for hits which were legal just 2 seasons ago.

Nobody batted an eyelash the day James Harrison hit Mohammed Massoquai and Josh Cribbs. Then he get summarily fined in season for it on freshly implemented rules and all of a sudden he's a dirty player?

Goodell took the deck off the table in the middle of a game of blackjack. If the NFL had made the changes at the beginning of the season like they do with all of their other changes I know I wouldn't have bitched half as much as I did.

They matter to the companies sure, and sure consoles/games getting more sales = more games(lol wii) for your console and games selling better = better chance of more sequels. But NFL making 7 billion or 5 or 9 doesn't really effect me all that much. If anything It's making me more annoyed cause they will expand eventually when we don't need, the commercials they spam us with fucking suck, and they rape us with sunday ticket prices

p.s ima dragon you to death!

NFL doesn't actually give a shit about player safety. I don't think I'm even being cynical when I say that. If they actually cared, they'd demand that every player wear those new AirXP or Revo Speed helmets and actually spend time educating players on health and safety risks of the sport.

The reason they went all haywire in midseason is because players were dropping like flies with concussions, and then Gladwell's story went up in New York mag. A perfect storm that demanded sudden action by the league.

The league is going to be hilarious inconsistent about how they call late hits and unnecessary roughness against defenseless players as a result, unfortunately.

They want the public to think they care to avoid a PR nightmare, but I agree deep down they don't give a flying fuck. Well maybe QB's that are super stars, but that's their money maker in today's passing era.

Of course they don't give a shit. The money they'll make from selling the big hits < the money they'll have to pay out to crippled former players in lawsuits.

And for the record, fuck Goodell. He blatantly used James Harrison as the poster boy to sell his new rules. If one of your best players got blindsided by a snap decision that turned him into a thug overnight you'd be pissed too.

Yea, NFL just needs to force he new helmets on them.
I'll rerefence the TMQ article I once read stating that players don't want to wear them because they don't look as cool, or just look different from what they're used to.
Get the fuck over it, save yourself some trauma.

Roddy white agrees!

http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22475988/34838950

"How in the hell can u pay a man this much money that cant run tackle or catch," White tweeted when hearing the news of Goodell's salary bump. "Roger Goodell is getting over never seen anything like it 20 million for looking over the league with tremendous help I guess the NFL is banking. The NFL is not a company it's a nonprofit organization that makes a lot of profit.

"Ok i am done."

But White wasn't done because, as often happens on Twitter, people responded to him. Someone said that Goodell's "job allows [White] to make money." White took umbrage with that.

"Thats the stupidest thing i have ever heard the players make this league dont ever forget that," White tweeted in response. "My god given talents feed me not him."

I think one of the reasons why the NFL has to care about player safety is a potentially diminishing talent pool.
Just over the last few days, I've stumbled upon two articles (Grantland and Deadspin) that raise this point.
Sure, this is anecdotal and GAF won't like the sources, but I truly think that the backlash against the NFL/football on all levels will only get bigger as scientists, journalists, lawyers, ex-players and moms dig deeper into the issue.

They should ask White if he's over paid for working 16 weeks a year?

While I disagree with White, and think his argument is one of the more ridiculous I've seen in quite some time, that's not really true, is it?

He has to keep in shape, prepare for the season, preseason, postseason, etc. That should add up to about 30-40 weeks per year, and I'm sure those weeks aren't 40h work weeks. Not to speak of the fact that they gamble their health and future away for a few years of big money.

I'd bet half of GAF will make more money in their life than the average NFL player with a 3.something year career at league minimum.

I think players in general should shut their mouths when it comes to other peoples pay checks considering how quickly they look into cashing in on their "god given talents". Rightfully so, mind you but you can't hate a man for making what he does.

Furthermore, for all of the bitching - the owners are who determines Goodell's paycheck last I checked. Specifically the leagues compensation committee (ironically headed up by Falcons owner Arthur Blank). You may not like the job he's doing but the owners of the 32 teams in the NFL obviously do which is why they extended his contract through 2018.

Other members of that committee that represent the interest of the owners by the way: Tom Benson (New Orleans), Pat Bowlen (Denver), Robert Kraft (New England), Jerry Richardson (Carolina) and Stephen Ross (Miami).

*gasp* So then you acknowledge that the CEO/commissioner has a hand in that decision making process and the NFL owners have confidence in his direction and guiding hand in making those billion dollar deals? I mean how dare they want to make more money?!!! You mean this whole NFL thing is a business?

Moved probowl, created thursday night games, created first round draft day, secured new tv deals, etc. You can hate goddell for a lot but if you think he hasnt done ANYTHING to grow the business you are foolish

Grow the business /= turn it into a 9 Billion business.

The NFL was a revenue Juggernaut before Goodell ever touched it. Goodell was handed a multi billion dollar entity. Not saying he didn't do anything, but I think i'll refrain from giving him sole credit for the NFL making that much money yearly.

What does them wanting more money have to do with my viewing pleasure ? oh yeah none. So if Goodell is directly fucking with my shit, my self entitlement is going to get pissed. They could totally make more money and not fuck shit up.

In comparison to what though? Bud Selig's salary climbed to over 18.2 million dollars in 2009 as the MLB commissioner.

What does the owners of the NFL paying their CEO 20 million dollars have to do with your viewing pleasure, then? You took time out of your day to say "standard salary for CEO's that fuck shit up" when it came to his salary as though THAT mattered to you?

I guess it really doesn't matter to me all that much, but it's the OS and I'm allowed to bring every trivial argument into my hate parade
