This Hot Shots lobby really is amazing. System seller right here.

The lobby system has actually been around for a really long time. It was originally introduced in a title for PS2 called Minna no GOLF online, which actually had a monthly fee too. It was based on the minna no golf/hot shots golf 3 set of characters I believe, but it totally had all the same features we now have in the palm of our hands.

Got my Vita yesterday, I've only been able to play about 20 minutes of Uncharted, but so far I quite like the machine. At the moment I have some issues with the tiny d-pad and face buttons, and their positioning above the sticks, but I'm hoping I'll get used to it.

Regarding Near, i hear it has a radius of like 10km. But what happens if you travel outside of this radius? Will the history of the people you've "connected" to be stored somehow?

Really? It said 147 people were playing games near me last night... I find that hard to believe!

How are download speeds compared to PS3?

How long would it take to download Uncharted full game via wifi?

I downloaded a 1GB demo in about 20 minutes over a 6MB connection. It was in the early evening, I imagine it would have gone faster during non-peak hours.

Ok, Uncharted is a visual monster. What was with the "mixed bag" remarks? I'm a stickler for graphics and this game is gorgeous!

I feel exactly the same way, I don't know what people's expectations were but on the OLED screen this game looks absolutely amazing!

Btw, anyone else having trouble getting NEAR to locate their position? I really can't get it to work, Skyhook shows that I'm in their coverage zone... I even uploaded my Mac address to their site and it still won't work.

I really want to see how many people with Vitas are close by dammit!

I wonder if there will be an option to overclock the processor like with the original psp once it is jailbroken. Also it should be possible for them to make an adapter to use sd cards instead of their flash memory cards right?

Yeah, need to understand the parameters more. The radar distance and the duration of the snapshot slice. It could mean 147 people were playing games near you for the entire week or month. 8^P

In any case, once developers start to use Near, you may still see the gift items even if those people have since left your area.

So what's up with this Standby mode issue? 9 times out of ten when I put the thing into Standby, I can't get it to turn back on after a little while. And I had it in standby today while I was at work, and the battery was dead by the time I got off.

Anyone else having these issues? It's a pain because standby basically doesn't work, I always lose my game state because I either have to do a full power-off or the battery has died.

How do you get into standby mode ? Press the on/off button ?

Yes, it's stored in a list, where you can sort the near findings by date of GPS data collected.
Cool, thanks :)

I saw that someone here at NeoGAF mentioned it, but i dont know what the source it was based on.

Was the PSP overclocked to more than 333MHz? If it wasnt more, then you didnt need to hack your PSP to get that. 333MHz was unlocked in PSP firmware 3.50 (i think it was 3.50 at least).

Haven't messed with any more unique things with this lobby but discovering double jump was a nice surprise.

where are the portals in the lobbies? so you can wander in the locked off areas or a nether world. you must find these, if they exist.

They exist? I tried walking to an exit and it did ask me to go to the lobby so you don't have to press buttons to initiate it in that sense. I haven't messed with it enough though.

So someone asked earlier but never got a response. For those with the Crystal Case from PDP, there is a single Amazon review that says:

"Unfortunately I have found that the case when faced with impact against the hinges, even a light impact, will cause the case to fly open. "

Anyone experiencing that? I want a hard shell case and would prefer to not import the Thrustmaster one (though it is awesome) so the PDP seems like the potential best option.

In the PS3 lobbies you could find some cool little niches to venture into. My favorite lobby had a Winebago you could jump all over.

But you said earlier that you don't see the other golfers you're playing against? You're just playing the round alone and only see each other once the hole is over and the next is loading? No option to turn on their trails? That's pretty sad if true.

I wouldn't take that as the last word. VITA is fresh out the factory so give it some time to stretch it's legs. Firmware updates can do wonders.
Yeah, while it's a point that frustrates me (although I had checked the online manual about that and expected the worst) the fact Sony's been good about adding features (albeit occasionally removing some too) gives me hope they'll be smarter about this stuff in the future, especially since if they're following Apple's design philosophy they KNOW they need versatility in additions as time goes on. I can just hope they also enable the ability to turn off certain notifications, really want Trophies not displaying for the more artsy games.

And in regards to Destructoid: just noticed this. Kinda hope some of these complaints spread ENOUGH that Sony feels the need to do something about the ones that can be addressed (no hope for multitasking unless a game allows it, but I'll take better performance over that anyway).

Haha, damn. Same happened to me but it went away eventually. I let the case air out overnight and the smell has mostly went away. Still there, but I'm going to continue leaving it out in hopes of it going away completely.
I think a bit of baking soda would be a good idea, might be the thing that pushes it from "barely there" to "entirely gone".

I've never actually used baking soda for anything like that. Should I set it out in the open near the case or actually put it in there? I don't want to make a mess inside.

My case just had a plasticky smell for a day and now it's gone. I bet some batches are using different glue or mold release agents which stink more.

Can at least voice chat with everyone?

Wipeout is great! I can already feel the addiction setting in.

Total wipeout virgin here though, so help me out:

What's the "proper" wipeout control scheme and method for playing? The default trigger to accelerate and dual-airbrake are comfortable, but I'm guessing I'll need the triggers for individual left/right air brake later when tracks are tougher, leaving the accel on th X button? Dpad taps seem pretty good now, but should I be training on the analog?

Why do articles like the one on Destructoid keep saying the Vita doesn't multitask?

The only thing it doesn't do is webbrowsing while a game is running, right?

highlighted the answer.

you can easily run a few things at once...theres youtubes of like 5things going at once. Ive been playing hsg with the music player playing my tracks all day and checked messages while doing that so....

Good games in HSG this evening guys. That was a lot of fun. Especially that last game with 8 of us.

Too bad someone was too busy taking pics of himself in lobbies rather than playing with us!! Hmmmmmmm!!! :p

cheststrongwell

my cake, fuck off
Had a scare yesterday. My roommates cat jumped up on my computer desk and spilled a glass of water on my brand new Vita. Cleaned it off real quick and everything seemed to be working until I tried to play Tactics Ogre. Some water got into the dpad and made it constantly act as if I were pressing down. Buried it in a bag of rice all night and it's working fine now. Was so scared!

Well, it looks like I need to buy a second AC adapter pack and USB cable for my office. I burned through my battery an hour playing Hit Shots and Stardust in intervals throughout the day.

Damn, I love this thing.
