So, it was important Weds when national broadcast partner FOX Sports announced its plans for the upcoming season. Now in their 17th season with baseball, FOX announced that for the upcoming season they will air eight consecutive primetime dates, the most ever scheduled during the regular-season. According to FOX, primetime coverage begins at 7:00 PM ET on those select nights and kicks off on Saturday, May 19 and continues into June where primetime games culminate on Saturday, July 7.

If you’re one of those that is preparing to plunk down money for those out-of-market packages we mentioned, the move to primetime by FOX has implications as to what games you may, or may not be able to see on Saturdays. That’s because FOX has what is called a national exclusivity agreement with MLB. What that means is, during a pre-defined window, all games on MLB Extra Innings and via MLB.TV are blacked out. With the added primetime games, that window shifts.

When FOX airs Saturday day games, they have exclusive rights for games that have a scheduled start time of 1:10 PM ET or before 8:00 PM ET. According to the league and FOX, with the increase in primetime games, that will shift from between 7:00 PM ET and 10:00 PM ET for the 8 games on the slate during that time period. That means that West Coast games that have start times at 7pm or 7:10pm PT will not be impacted by the blackout policy.

Do you guys prefer going to afternoon games or night games?

My personal preference is night games, not only for the cooler weather during the summer, but there's just something about seeing baseball under the bright lights that seems right to me.

Day games, though I get why you'd prefer night games, living in ATL...

I prefer night games when I go to Bulls games here for the weather reasons.

Hooray, according to some ESPN insiders (Bowden/Law/Olney), apparently, we're the team with the sixth brightest future in the MLB in their "future power rankings."

It's Insider, so I'm not posting everything, but top ten went

1. Rangers
2. Yankees
3. Rays
4. Cardinals
5. Red Sox
7. Angels
8. D-Backs
9. Braves
10. Phillies

So faaaaaantastic. Sixth in all of baseball and still fourth in the division. Goddamn it. Well, at least we're not the Orioles, who were ranked dead last on the list @ 30th.

I wish I had insider so I could see the whole breakdown on this. I fucking love how Jon Daniels is running this thing.

The lowdown
The World Series Game 6 collapse may hang on the Rangers for the rest of their lives, but it had no bearing on this piece of conventional wisdom: Texas is already viewed as a superpower that will continue to be an elite team long after Tony Romo is finished as the quarterback of the Cowboys.

General manager Jon Daniels has built a strong organization on scouting and development, and behind the wave of players who have taken the Rangers to two consecutive World Series are more great young players, from power arm Martin Perez to shortstop Jurickson Profar. They have poured money into their international signings and continually replenished their pitching, most notably with the recent addition of Yu Darvish. Somehow, Daniels has been able to assemble this kind of talent and record without also being burdened with the kind of contracts that have made the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox top-heavy. The Rangers are baseball's model franchise these days. -- Buster Olney

The next step
Perhaps the biggest issue facing the Rangers will be to figure out on which fingers their World Series rings will go. With a surplus of pitching and one of the best offenses and defenses in baseball, the Rangers just need to maintain the team. This includes replacing Josh Hamilton or signing him to a long-term contract. After coming close twice, they will finally get their World Series title very soon. -- Jim Bowden

Well for weather reasons I'd prefer to attend night games, but I actually like watching baseball in the day. The first ALDS game against the Rays last year started at 3 and felt so perfect.
I wish I could've said the same thing about the game.

I prefer night games, part of that is because the White Sox have fireworks for home runs and wins and fireworks just look better at night. The other part is just that the game feels more majestic during the night.

What does that mean? It gets old quickly? It's more baseball, it works well and is flawlessly presented. The selection isn't always great but it's awesome and cheap.
It would be cool to watch your teams top prospects perform. Makes the prospect get even more known. Bought MLB.TV for this year, fucking awesome. All games all the way back to 2009.

Well for me I watch very little Brewers minor leaguers anymore. The farm is garbage. Usually I just watch the most promising starting pitchers on any given day. It's awesome.

Oh snap, a wild white sox fan appears.

Yup, I look forward to discussing baseball with you guys, it's been a while since I have been part of an active community discussing baseball and it should be fun, even if my team likely won't do well this year (or really the next 2-3 years lol)

It'll be longer than that.

Always nice to have another Sox fan, there was one that showed up last year but he only posted a couple time :(

that's quite possible but at least Dunn, Rios and Peavy won't be part of the White Sox team after the 2014 season (2013 for Peavy) so the White Sox won't have 40+ mil of mostly useless hanging around at that point. Of course that doesn't mean that they won't trade for/sign more mostly useless players by then.

Winning a chance to buy two tickets for the inaugural game at Marlins Park will be a lot like winning the lottery.

The Marlins announced this morning that more than 52,000 people have registered on line so far for a chance to buy up to two tickets in a batch that the team estimates will number about 1,000.

Online registration ends Monday. (It started Feb. 1). Winners will be notified by Feb. 23.

The Marlins host the Cardinals on April 4 in the very first game at Marlins Park.

Single game tickets, with the exception of Opening Night, will go on sale March 3 at 10 A.M. at marlins.com and at the Marlins Park Ticket Office.

Meanwhile, tickets for the two spring training games (April 1-2) against the New York Yankees at Marlins Park go on sale Saturday. These tickets will be available only online at Marlins.com starting at 10 a.m.

Yankees tickets will range in price from $15 to $150.

"Canadians mourned the passing of a man who was once this country's biggest baseball star with tributes in the House of Commons, a flag lowered to half-mast, and talk of renaming a public space in Montreal after the late Gary Carter.

While politicians delivered their praise in Ottawa's federal Parliament, people in Montreal were suddenly reminiscing about baseball once again, sharing fond memories of a professional game that left the city eight years ago.

A flag was lowered at Montreal's Olympic Park outside the cavernous, now-mostly-vacant stadium where the Hall of Fame catcher spent years thrilling crowds.

Park management announced plans to consult with Carter's family and undertake steps to name a space in the area after him.

One federal politician, Liberal Denis Coderre, raised the possibility of renaming the metro stop at Olympic Stadium"

Also, The Montreal Canadiens will be honoring Gary Carter before their next home game.

Yeah not sure what I'm doing for Spring Training yet myself. The Astros ST games are definitely the most convenient for me to watch (and by far the cheapest, it's like $10 for a seat right behind home plate) but it's the damn Astros. Maybe I'll catch some Braves games this year.
