glad to hear jeff speakin good about this. gonna rent this and asura's wrath tomorrow since i don't have any friends that are gonna be playing this, which makes me sad :( , and i'll prolly blow through the SP campaign. hopefully can wrangle up some folks to do some co-op as i couldn't find anyone when i played the demo a while back. really bummed me out at that point, but hopeful for better times come tomorrow. hope this sells well for starbreeze.

You play the 360 demo?

It's solid as hell
Uh... what? Really? I and a couple of friends tried to play it last night, and it was without a doubt the crashiest piece of software any of us had ever encountered on the 360. I think between us, we had 6 hard locks in the ~90 minutes we spent trying to get through the first mission. Eventually, one of my friends couldn't even load the game without it locking his system up.

That said, it seemed like a fun game, between crashes. All the various unlocks looked interesting.

So I tried to download the coop demo:

Got my Amazon shipment confirmation at noon today. Sad to say but I don't think I'll have time to play this week, with exams and Vita.

isn't that kinda short for co-op then? if it's just the 9 missions
There was one co-op mission in the demo and I put about 10 hours into that alone... and if anything I had more fun in the 10th hour than I did in the first hour. There's a very deep unlock system and a great variety of weapons/apps so you can constantly experiment with different approaches.

I played the riddick games on steam a few months ago and was aback by how poorly the PC controls were implemented. Enclave (forgive me as I ride the wayback machine) was the same on PC so I am under the impression that shoddy PC ports might just be a Starbreeze *thing*.

I was wondering if Starbreeze's latest is any better on PC and I'm particularly focusing on the controls

Also, is this an Origin-only joint? edit: Looks like this is Originworks. Any word on if this will be available on any of the following storefronts: GOG.com, Amazon Downloads*, Steam?

Fake Edit: Yes to Amazon Downloads

The idea is you'll want to keep playing them on harder difficulties to rank up and stuff.

Oh ok that sounds good then. What you two are describing kinda reminds me of RB6 Vegas 1 which never got boring with co-op terrorist hunt and other modes even though you playing the same maps, and had lots of unlocks and custom loadouts.

Another review (never heard of the website though so not sure if reliable credible etc).

If you want to play a different type of shooter that is tactical, challenging, intense and atmospheric, get this game. This is my favorite FPS campaign mode since Crysis 2. While the main campaign’s length is on the short side and the co-op won’t replace your favorite online shooter, Syndicate will surprise you with its tactical and intense action.

VG Arabia 8.5/10

if anybody gets PC version, report on controls, please. Basically this will decide at what discount I will buy this game.

Read where it's 6-8 hours on Normal difficulty and doesn't look to have a new game plus mode.

Bought Amazon, download through Origin and the activate checker came up and it won't let me play until 2 am Central.

What do you need to know?

how does mouse feel? is it accelerated, smoothed out? are there options to turn its acceleration and "dampening" off if it is there? and if there is auto-aim which can't be turned off?

Menu interface is ok, basic gfx options, audio basic audio options, can only bind mouse 1,2&3 + scroll wheel in controls, can change mouse sensitivity and invert look.

No FOV, motion blur in game not looked in the config files.

Runs fine on my I7/AMD6850 almost locked 60fps with vsync on from what I've managed to play, the lighting engine doesn't seem to play nice with my setup and makes the game look like a cell shaded mess.

Oh well it'll get fixed.

Mouse feels fine, does not feel like there is acceleration or smoothing. No options for either. There is an autoaim toggle. Video options aren't great but it runs fine and looks pretty decent.

Not sure what you mean by this? I can bind all keys to anything.

Is there any way to change the field of view, turn off motion blur, how is the pad support, does the mouse feel fine?

No motion blur/FOV options in-game. Have not looked at config files. I can take a look at pad support in a minute.

Edit: Full 360 controller support w/ preset configs.

Edit 2: Screenshot of pad menu

ok, seems to be ok. Never had problems with narrow FOV even though I prefer wide FOV so I might get it down the line or may be even soon to complete it on a weekend.

more questions:

how is the action? is it a linear COD-style romp?

and how is the story? is writing up to usual Starbreeze standards? is voice acting not cringeworthy?

There does appear to be a motion blur/depth of field toggle in the config files. Took some screenshots while turning to verify it actually doing anything:

Linear so far, but fun. Really enjoyed the first boss sequence and there seems to be a good amount of variation within the action to the point that I'm at. Breach usage really does allow for a decent amount of options while in combat. Voice acting is pretty solid, writing is ok but maybe a little rough. Overall feel of the game is something that I'm really enjoying - being the boogeyman is -really- fucking fun.

sounds like an ok game. I'm still not sure if I should get it right now since there is a 20% discount for pre-order or I should wait for Christmas sale. If it is really 6 hours and not more I might get it...

I think if you're on the fence the co-op will make or break a full priced purchase. If you have no intention of playing co-op, wait for a sale.

Here's a review from dutch website Gamersnet.
Gamersnet Review

Google translate gives me this for the plus and minuses:

Wat is HOT:
+Audiovisueel erg sterk (Audiovisually very strong)
+Singleplayer is actievol en bruut (Singleplayer is action packed and brutal)
+Co-op biedt veel content (Co-op offers a lot of content)
+Soepele leercurve (Smooth learning curve)

Wat is NOT:
-Communicatie in co-op kan pittig zijn (Communication in co-op can be tough)
-PC-versie kent kleine gebreken (PC version has minor defects)

For those of you playing it so far, how are you finding the difficulty? I will probably start it out on hard, but since the game is a little different than your normal shooter, I wanted some feedback on how hard felt compared to your normal shooter like veteran on Call of Duty or something a little different like insanity on the Mass Effect games.

Game is challenging. On Normal, pretty good at FPS in general, died a few times already even after putting plenty of time into the demo. I imagine hard is going to be rough nomatter how good you are; but a lot of it has to do with how quickly you adapt yourself to utilizing the Breach commands. There's a lot of options there, tactically, that can make a rough battle easier, and potentially, an easy battle fairly difficult if you aren't smart in your approach.

The AI is certainly on par with FEAR here in terms of impressiveness. In fact, this game and FEAR, combat-wise, there's an overwhelming amount of similarities in feel. If you felt at home with out of control shootouts there, and bring a little strategy with you, you're gonna love this.

So far, I'm only 2-3 hours in. (PC version)
