This whole ME3 thing has gone straight over my head. What is the issue and why doesn't it involve wandering around the Citadel getting lapdances and telling Shepard's fans to do one?

Day 1 800 points DLC for a character that was leaked last year and sounds like a pretty fucking major part of the story.

and before anyone gets angry at me, i get what he's saying and it's not realllllly hypocritical (though i strongly disagree and think his extreme as fuck ME fanboyism is blinding him) it's just funny as hell to juxtapose those

Is it the embarrassing one we had concept art for?

There were two of those, and it was the latter. There's a thread about a promo image for it getting leaked. ME3 SPOILERS THAT WILL PROBABLY BE ADVERTISED BY BIOWARE THEMSELVES IN A COUPLE WEEKS:
There's a living Prothean squadmate with a bunch of dialogue and backstory on the Prothean race and its motivations that's DLC-exclusive.

Oh yeah. That thing. That character sounds fucking dumb anyway but that's still not cool at all. They're entitled to rip that out of the game and sell it separately, I guess, but people are then perfectly entitled to call EA cynical grubs for doing so.

Celebs live by different rules man, you should know ;( (If I could get favors and freebies from my "industry friends" I totally would as well)

That's been the issue all along I think.

I must do better.

Having major story stuff as dlc is crappy enough, but not even giving non-used buyers it is really lame.

Stick to golden guns for CEs

as a junior member you should probably make it clear that you're joking (if you are), one ban and you're out for good

I've stayed in the dark until just recently. This is the first I'm hearing of this. What a horrible piece of content to force fans to pay for seperately. I'm not a person that typically has a problems with DLC but leaving out something like that, something that has the potential to flesh out a crucial part of the story and universe is shameful. I'm a big Mass Effect fan but some of these decisions Bioware is making with this game is really turning me off.

9/10 NeoGAFfers don't understand statistics. The other 3/10 don't care.

Hey guys. It's additional content!

...That just happens to be available at launch and has been known about for several weeks before coming out, but it's additional!

Has there actually been concrete evidence that this DLC won't just be a Zaeed situation in terms of content? I understand the implications of the character, but I wouldn't be surprised if they botched that opportunity.

I'm on BioWare's side with the DLC. It's irrelevant when it was produced. You could just as easily argue ME2 should be included on the disc too. DLC is a separate product, budgeted and greenlite independently of the game.

The only thing that matters is if you feel you're getting your $60 worth out of the base package, if that's the case, it's fine.

If that were the case, I'd be even more disappointed. I find that particular part of the Mass Effect universe to be the most interesting. They are the actual heroes of Mass Effect 1 and I wasn't huge fan of how they handled them in Mass Effect 2. If it ended up being a throw away piece of content in Mass Effect 3, it would be disappointing.

Learning more and more that people don't know what the word "force" means. I blame Lucas.

What the fuck ever. Yeah, yeah, they aren't forcing me to buy it; they are graciously offering it for $10. However you want to put it, it's shitty.

Help Commander Shepherd and his elite team* save the earth in Mass Effect 3, the upcoming sci-fi epic by hit studio Bioware, creators of Dragon Age 2 and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

*squadmates sold separately.

The "old" script that was leaked a while back (that people always make pains to point out is probably very outdated) had this character in it, their introduction scene, and a bunch of their dialogue. Right alongside all the main story stuff.

It smacks of the content scalpel.

It's better that way. I don't have to feel bad about never bringing the other squadmates with me on missions that don't involve their daddy issues.

Running lean!
If I were an unscrupulous bastard in charge of maximising those profits, that's totally what I would've done with ME2. Split up the characters and their missions in individual packages and sell each of them for 15 bucks. Normal game costs 30 bucks and lets you take Shepherd through the first, some of the random side missions and the last mission alone.

Gamers love to bend over and actually have no spine, so the backlash online and the loss of goodwill would've been negligible.

Exactly, I find it highly unlikely that this was not planned from the start as it would have some serious story implication and if it doesn't have serious story implication then Bioware has failed to utilize it.
