Assassin's Creed III: American Revolution setting confirmed [Game Informer/Box Art]

Like others here, I am not a fan of the hooded character design. At all. Setting sounds interesting and they can really do some fun stuff with it but the character needs a redesign.

Same here.. or at least right now it's seems to be too much of a mix with the Renaissance character (where it made sense).

I doubt the Americans are the ones complaining about the setting, though maybe I'm wrong. Would love to see some American responses.
Not really complaining about the location but the general worry about the founding fathers, etc. I'm assuming but I mean, this is a series where you have muslims doing shady things everywhere and you beat the shit out of the pope, between other things, so I don't see why someone who's not from the US would get distressed about these particular details. I can't see how this announcement makes the series riskier than it ever was.

I would have honestly been pretty excited for this if it wasn't a yearly release game.

Yeah, same here. I recently hit the wall with this series after playing Revelations. It felt so stagnant that I had absolutely no desire to even finish it. Perhaps such a radical change will do the trick for me, but I really am finding it hard to get excited for AC III when I think of The American Revolution. I suppose we shall see.

I, for one, am eagerly hoping they announce the protagonist is also a male model

New York was particularly well-developed by the time of the Revolutionary War.

Last pic represents 1797, roughly 14 years after the end of the war. New York underwent more development post-war, but that gives you an idea.

Second pic shows Washington returning to New York City after the British were kicked out. Spoilers :p

NYC should make for the perfect city to play around with in AC3 since it had plenty of urban density and was occupied by the Brits for almost the entire war.

Im confused about the title, why was the not the civil war part added?

Anyway, really, I just want to see what places here in Virginia they choose, and how many "places" we can go and all of ben franks inventions.

Well if he can be of Syrian, Italian and now natve American descent why can't he be Indian/Chinese as well?

Also why can't his ancestor be a European in Colonial India? They can let the follow-up be in England or something.

Playing as a Brit in Colonial India would put you on the wrong side of the conflict, unless you're suggesting some sort of Lawrence of Arabia situation.

Personally, I think the American Revolution is a wonderful time period. It's one part of American history every American should be truly proud of. Not to mention that American history is fucking fascinating.

As disappointed as I am in the choice for the historical setting, I think I'm more disappointed it appears it's another male lead. Female assassin would have been so much more bad-ass.

Impossible due to the lore, IIRC
Desmond can only replay memories of male ancestors until they have their first child.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

AC reboot with a girl in modern times in the animus could well mix things up.
+1 for sexy assassin chick

The hood is important design wise to the entire Assassins Creed franchise so they can change the costume for the different time periods, while having a link between each time period.

Also wouldn't suprise me at all if the name of protagonist in this one is something like Samuel from the tribe of Soaring Eagle, or Sam Eagle for short, where his father is a native American and his mother is a settler.

Let's not forget Philly and Boston too.

Funny thing about GW
Isn't he a Templar?

It would offer the interesting opportunity to seduce a target before killing it. Though I can't imagine how you'd pull that of gameplaywise without making it look completley ridiculous and childish.

I just thought about something. Remember in the movie The Patriot when
the British soldiers were ambushed in a forest?
I could see something like that happening in Assassin's Creed III, regarding the methods used in assassinating people.

Ah dammit, a bit disappointed that it's the AR. Oh well, at least it'll be something new in terms of presentation.

They might as well name him John Bear Cock the rate they are going...

I don't see why not. Plus, Native Americans tribes used guerrilla warfare often during their conflicts with Americans and the British, so I'd imagine this new character would do the same.

Has there been any fallout from the fact that this series has had an Arab and now a Native American protagonist? Why did C.J. get a different reaction?

This looks excellent, I am hyped!

Its not that there's no buildings. Its that classic European architecture is infinitely more beautiful and interesting than America's.

The architecture is not the only important thing in AC you know. This could really freshen up the gameplay in the series.

Europe can't have the Olympics and assassins creed. Stop being so greedy, that's why America was founded after all, you and all yer taxes.

Don't tread on me

no taxation without representation

What am I even reading?

Anyway, I honestly know very little about the American revolution, but a new setting plus possibly a change in mechanics based on it? I'm all for it. Ezio's accent was endearing in a "do they really think we speak like that?" kind of way, but I'm kind of tired of it too.

hoping for some philadelphia representation. it just HAS to be in there.

i want to climb independence hall.

or christ church.

Thats what a lot of people are expecting. A break after AC3, then they come back with a new protagonist, ancestors and settings. I wouldn't mind playing as Shao Jun from embers.

Also, i'm not pleased with the idea of guns being more prominent. Hated them in AC:R

Nah. They'll stand rank and file, miss with their musket, then have to whip out a cartridge and ramrod and take half a minute to reload.

Ever see Bill Cosby's comedy piece on Loading the Musket? I can't find it on youtube but that applies.

Really, guys? "I'm not interested because I'm not American?"

Are you all Italian? Are you all from the Middle East?

The problem I have with America is it's in every game. The most interesting aspect of AC is the unique settings. There were no games that were set in the Holy Land or Italy but are shit loads of games set in America.

In fact it's not even games but movies that make the setting seem like I've already seen most of what could be interesting.

Not been a fan of AC since they started adding guns and bombs anyway.

I can't wait to see them paint all of the American Revolution leaders as Templar scumbugs.

I expect that the American Revolution is the place where the Templar's gain a serious foothold and build up to the power that they have in present day.

If this happens and G. Washington and boys are the bad guys, then I hope they are ready for the hate mail. I can't wait to see the patriotic tears of rage that are shed, and I'm American.

Yeah....look at all those 4 story buildings!! I can't wait to climb to the top to unlock a viewpoint and see the big environment......oh wait.... THEY ARE ONLY FOUR FUCKING STORIES TALL!!

Really? The American Revolution aesthetic is overused?

Just because they're geographically the same place, doesn't mean modern America and Revolutionary America have anything in common at all.

I don't know about that. We are not only made of DNA from our fathers, so I would think he should be able to live through female ancestors memories up until birth.

Yeah, something like that (I had to google Lawerence of Arabia and still didn't get all of it, I'm historically illiterate lol).

Mainly I care about the architecture and culture and I think the Asian side would be more interesting. But to be honest I know nothing about American history beyond cowboys so I wouldn't know.
