Yaaaay Amerikah, meh.

My first option would've been Russia, I mean the only thing I know about Moscow are two tall buildings lol.
Still I would've preferred India, China or Japan. Even England would've been a better choice, at least they have a fancy accent.

This is what I'm asking. Maybe they had terrible history teachers.
Or maybe they didn't study American history.

As someone who knows next to nothing about the american revolution, what kind of gameplay changes will this setting lead to? Is the architecture of that time conducive to traditional AC traversal? What kind of weaponry can we expect to see?

Sorry if this has been asked already.

Yes, ofcourse. What would an Assassin's Creed game be without some god ol espionage?
=)

I know but the American Revolution should make for a particularly great espionage setting. Washington had his own secret committees on intelligence. New protagonist could easily figure in as one of his agents.

You realize the country it takes place in has to somehow be connected to Desmond's genealogy, right? I'm pretty sure he has no Indian or chinese blood.

Yeah, but they could have gone either full tribal headgear, like this:

Or keep to a clean uniform and ditch the hood altogether, like this:]

Ditching the hood is no. The problem with the hood (and the design of the robes in general) is it looks... backwards from Ezio AND Alitar's. Isn't the American Revolution later than both their timeline's in the series combined? Why does it look like shit in comparison?

I mean I understand uniforms of the revolution aren't going to be all flowy and elegant, but come on!

Oh, man. You spelled Amerikah with a k. Funded by M$? Shit is so witty.

Man, the AC series location-begging is just as bad as when GTA announces a city they're working on. "Not interesting why couldnt it have been _____" shit guys, it's their story.

Much smaller buildings during the Revolutionary War period. You're not going to be climbing 10 stories and jumping into a barrel of hay as often in this game.

Mildly interested. Assassin's Creed has always been a step down from achieving top tier status to me just because they added that stupid Sci Fi angle to them. I think they could've worked perfectly fine without it, but at least they kept it to a minimum. It could've been interesting in it's own way, but after 3 games (have yet to play Revelations) those characters do nothing for me.

I'm eager to see it in motion, and how they construct the cities and especially the character design and color palette. I always imagine this period looking exactly like the declaration of independence and similar paintings.

People don't know their history at all. No buildings? Do you honestly think America in the late 18th century looked like this?

That is a town (Jamestown specifically) at the beginning of the 17th century. Lets fast forward over 160 years

By no means does it equate to the hundreds of years of building by European cities, but quite honestly it looks like a lot of the same building size and density I'm used to in Assassin's Creed.

Gunpowder is also widespread, so guns will be plentiful. That will change the gameplay dynamics significantly.

Thank you. People really don't know their history and If you're not American then you're slightly forgiven.

The setting is going to be fine. I just hope they don't spend three more games in the same place. I enjoyed the freshness of AC1 -> AC2, but I quickly got bored while playing Brotherhood after trending a lot of Italian cities in 2. I'm going to take 6 months off before I play Revelations.

I want a new assassin and new setting in each AC game. Mmm, mmm freshness.

As disappointed as I am in the choice for the historical setting, I think I'm more disappointed it appears it's another male lead. Female assassin would have been so much more bad-ass.

I feel that this deserves a re-quote.

I'm having brutal nightmares already. Washingtons espionage runs, barren waste lands, some kind of murky forest, jumping off waterfalls and sitting down in Tipis with American Indians and one shows you how to throw the Tomohawk.

Jesus ever loving Christ, there is no facepalm gif huge enough to cover this trash.

Hopefully gunpowder doesn't work at all like it did in Revelations. Musketeers were so freaking annoying in that game.

Especially since the premise of the series would be just perfect for it. Well maybe next time.

While I can understand this setting and overall historical perspective in terms of the story, I still am just not feeling it. Especially after being in the likes of the Holy Land and Renaissance Italy. It just seems... off.

I will of course reserve full judgment until I see more, but the idea and art is not really clicking with me. Then again, the series has spread itself a bit thin with the yearly releases, so perhaps such a radical change will be just what the doctor ordered after the prolonged experience with Ezio.

Reloading minigame will suck

Nah, man. One of "Subject <N>'s memories" is that you go to the Opera House and Assassinate Lincoln since he wasn't going to use the Apple of Eden to continue to control the slaves. The twist is the Assassin is
a Templar Sleeper Agent that was in the Brotherhood
which will be a "mini-game" itself.

Given the series has you jump between years, I don't think it's that far a stretch to have one of the jumps be that far ahead.

Stop ruining my jokes

Like others here, I am not a fan of the hooded character design. At all. Setting sounds interesting and they can really do some fun stuff with it but the character needs a redesign.

Well, maybe a bit premature and incredibly dramatic, but if you didn't like AC's gameplay, there is a slight chance you won't like AC 3 gameplay either.

They need to make the hood less stupid, that's it. Slapping a huge rectangle eagle logo on the hood doesn't make it good.

Slap it on the shoulders or something and the hood is less "pointed" in comparison to Ezio and Altair and suddenly it looks 20x better than it is.

Seems to me that this should be even more interesting to you if you're not American, since you may not be as familiar with the setting.
That's how I feel too, I'm not from the USA and I'm really curious about it. And it seems to be mostly Americans that are worried about the setting and how offensive the portrayals may end up being, so I'd say being from there seems to be actually working against getting interested in the game for now.

I doubt the Americans are the ones complaining about the setting, though maybe I'm wrong. Would love to see some American responses.

Here's my American response:

I don't care until I actually see it and how they're working with it. Not being caught up in imagination and "it would be better if..." because we don't know what they're doing with it. We'll see.

Asia was used in Constantinople.

I agree, African Continent and Oceania continent needs to be used as well, and probably will, in the future. If they pick Africa and Australia, people will probably complain that there are no tall buildings like they are doing in this thread lol
At the time Constantinople did not span both sides of the Bosphorus. Regardless, even if it was entirely situated on Anatolia it is essentially a European city due to history and culture. Assassin's Creed 1 however took place entirely in Asia so that's a better example.

Well if he can be of Syrian, Italian and now natve American descent why can't he be Indian/Chinese as well?

Also why can't his ancestor be a European in Colonial India? They can let the follow-up be in England or something.

The problem with that is that probably 99% of the people who will be killed are men. A man killing other men is fine, but a woman who kills only men (or, for that matter, a man who kills only women) would be a little weird and would bring the one-sidedness of the gender of the victims into sharp relief.

Of course what the series really should do is cut down on all the senseless killing and go back to what AC1 could have been: a limited number of assassination targets, and no other kills. I don't mind being an assassin, but I'm tired of being a butcher and a murderer.

The twist is that the game will take place in Canada. Mostly focusing on their free healthcare system.

I'm expecting some sort of ranged counter move where you use your Assassin reflexes to dodge musket fire and then chuck a tomahawk into the guy's face.
