Fuck them. You spoke the truth and it's not your fault that a 7 (which I consider to be relatively good) is considered a bad score in this day and age.

Pretty sure that the majority of people didn't even look at the number when taking issue, but all righty.

Some of them did read the content and thought dialog boxes weren't archaic, which I'm fine with. Differing opinions are cool.

Thanks. Others were not so kind. Rofl.

You literally use rofl in EVERY post. It's so distracting.

But anyway, your review is pretty informative, not exactly sure what the issue is. Only thing I disagree with is the whole "archaic" thing. I mean, that's a very sensitive word to use in the first place. Second, I have not played the game, but I can't see where you're coming from. Partly because I have no clue what you mean by "archaic." And then because most of the elements you mentioned in the review and that I know of the game would hardly constitute as "archaic." But again, I have no idea what your definition of the word is. A game being three years old hardly warrants being called "archaic" though.

Just a disclaimer, if you or any other posters discussed anything in my post, I apologize. I just read the review and now posted the reply, sorry if you've already addressed this.

Sorry, it's a habit that I type in rofl. Instead of lol, rofl comes out easier to type. <i was about to type rofl just now>. Anyway, it seems like the archaic is the thing that a lot of people either disagree about or just flat out discuss. Anyway, I'm not saying the game is archaic. Certain mechanics or tidbits of the game is archaic. And 3 years I think is sort of long time in video game terms.

Also, thank you for the comments. I appreciate it.

Mmhmm; it's too hard for me to dislike Veigue's VA since he's Link. To be honest, I don't find the characterization or character interactions sub-par; I think they're pretty good. And I love 3L-LMBS to bits.

It's too bad that the plot is downright poor.

Perhaps it would have been better to write 'old-fashioned' as opposed to 'archaic' in hindsight. I know what you're trying to say, but archaic has a negative connotation (ie: outdated, bad), and thus people will think of it with a negative spin.

No need to apologize, you can post however you please haha. I just find it distracting, but so what?

Guess I'll just have to play the game and see for myself before really being able to discuss any more on the issue since I haven't played it. First English Tales game in three long years, it's been forever. Hope I like Graces even half as much as I loved Vesperia.

And on Rebirth, I can't understand Japanese so the plot affected me not at all, but God, the battle system and gameplay systems were so GOOD. The battles are probably the most fun of any Tales game I've played, with Vesperia being the only reasonable competition IMO. Not to mention the fact that with the exception of Annie, every character was a blast to play.

Because I enjoyed the game quite a bit, I didn't feel like the plat was much of a chore despite being a bit of a grind. I had lots of fun doing it. I remember complaining a lot while I was doing FFXIII's plat, lol.

so basically, I just have to complete all sidequests for the platinum? Looks like I might go for 2 playthroughs this time compared to the annoying speedrun, low level challenger, and the secret missions of Vesperia. That took me 3 months and its the first game I ever had 100% achievements. Still bitching at Secret Mission 17!

I think we're going to get along well. I loved ToR from a battle/ability standpoint because it was so gosh darn fun. The game looked fantastic as well.

My 3 favourite systems in Tales are:
- SS-LMBS (Graces)
- 3L-LMBS (Rebirth)
- AR-LMBS (ToDr)

...so I guess I like Team Destiny-designed systems more. They feel so good to play around and try to combo with.

Blew. My. Mind.
Well, just OoT/MM Adult Link/Fierce Deity Link/Zora Link.

I never got Vesperia's platinum. I didn't have the patience for it.

And pretty much; I found it more tolerable than Vesperia's plat. You do need to complete all Inn Requests and some of the events to get the Gentleman Defeated! trophy. Not to mention finish the final boss off five times:
once on second, hard, evil, and chaos respectively; and once more after you finish off Future Arc.

So, from reading a majority of these posts, the story is more "meh" than terrible, right? I can put up with a vanilla storyline but I don't have the patience to deal with absolute shit anymore (can't fathom how I managed to get through Star Ocean IV).

As a sidenote, I'm currently playing Tales of Vesperia, about to fight the final boss, and it feels like they missed a big opportunity story wise to take the story in a more interesting direction for the final act.

I really like Tales of Rebirth. In fact... (sad that the images are broken)

That wasn't really all that long ago, either. Fact is that even though I had played most of the Tales releases ever since Phantasia, and tried very hard to like them due to my sister's fanatical enthusiasm for them, I never really appreciated them until something "clicked" in my mind while playing Vesperia. And then I went back and found something to love in every single one, including Rebirth as shown above. Though actually, I think I was doing Rebirth before Vesperia according to the date on that post. Wow, wait... maybe it was Rebirth that turned me around on Tales and not Vesperia.

Story should've ended at the end of the 2/3 game. Rofl.

So this game doesn't have a world map in the same sense as past Tales games and is more linear like FFX, correct? That's a little disappointing, but I'll deal with it, I suppose.

Are you talking about Vesperia? It definitely felt like it should have ended 2/3 of the way through, with the way character development for Yuri completely gets swept under the rug and forgotten for the final act.

I only played Rebirth out of the ones you mentioned. Only a week till I finally play Graces though.

And yes, Rebirth is gorgeous. I just played through it again last November, and it's so pretty. And on top of that, the world was so interesting. I love when RPGs have these small locations that make the world feel more alive. So the hostels in Rebirth and all the churches in Symphonia were great IMO, plus the music in both in those areas was so relaxing. But yeah, Rebirth not being localized is such a bummer, since it's definitely top dog in terms of battle system.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Thought the OT will be up by today.

Am I going to regret not going with a Gamestop pre-order for the bonuses, or should I just get it on Amazon to avoid the tax and hassle?

I just wanted to mention that the US boxart for this game looks great. I just saw it on Amazon.

Ha, I'm ashamed to admit it's what confirmed whether or not I'd buy this game.

If you have no transportation then get release day from amazon. If you have the means to go to gamestop then get it from there.

After literally years of waiting Graces is finally coming out in only a few more days.

I could cry tears of joy that my white wish is finally being granted.

Seriously anyone who calls themselves a Tales fan in any capacity better buy this game. Don't boycot it over Vesperia ps3 or skip over it because you're waiting on Xilla because you'd only be hurting yourself in the long run.

After all if Graces does well enough (And Namco has realistic expectations for once) maybe we won't have to literally beg for the next one....

I'm actually more excited for Graces than Xillia. Just seems alot more interesting to me.

Edit: Just my opinion though. I mean, I value Symphonia over Vesperia, so what do I know? Also, Rebirth was kind of =/

I don't have as much faith in non-team symphonia Tales games but I am certainly hyped for graces.

Skits are less common in Graces. They usually only happen at save points. So yeah. Also OT is going up in 10 hours and 30 min.

Graces is generally a bit lighter on skits than other Team Destiny games, probably more in line with Symphonia games in general. TD games used to go quite a bit overboard, and would often have several skits that said exactly the same thing ("Let's go to the next destination! That's over that mountain, right?!").

Well they're meant to help/reinforce the player. It seems in general Tales games have lightened up on the fat when it comes to skits. Rebirth probably had the record on that though. On average now though, its like 450-600 at most for any Tales game? Meanwhile Rebirth I think was in the 1000s or something.

Yeah. Graces has 310 skits, Vesperia had 419.

1000+? What the hell?! So much voicework. I'm glad Graces is light on the skits. Sure there are the dumb ones. I usually like the ones that build characters.

Graces had that much? Maybe it's because I didn't get them or something. I remember the amount being smaller.

Can't believe this game is coming out with only a minute and a half trailer, no demo, no sort of TV commercials (that's a given), and like one poster in Gamestop stores. Oh Bamco.

I guess the FB stuff was better than nothing, but still...

Bought a PS3 today so i could play MLB The Show, but realized this was coming out next week. What an awesome scenario I put myself in. Preordering it now

There's a skit at most save points, and there's at least one skit associated with each discovery. Then there's other skits that happen after certain events. There's a list here.

My main issue with Abyss' skits is that, not only are they silent, but you can't skip through the dialogue at your own pace--they run on as if they were cutscenes when they actually aren't. If Graces' skits are voiced then I can deal with that.

RPGCrazied

I love skits. I really love them when they are voiced. Vesperia was fantastic with its skits. Abyss I was so bummed when they weren't voiced. Then Legendia only half of them were voiced. ;/ Hell.. 2nd part of the game wasn't voiced, lol

Aeana

I'm assuming Graces's skits will all be voiced in English. Nobody has said otherwise yet, at least, and I think you could hear some voice in one of the earlier videos.
