Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
re-posted from the gaming side (wild, crazy campaign/story theory)

you might be onto something here...

(MAJOR Primordium/Halo Universe Spoilers)
the composer was used to turn chakas (a human) into 343 (an AI/Monitor). what if the major story arc ends with a twist on that. i.e. the only way to save cortana is to use the composer to somehow turn her back into a human or some variation of composer, ai, human, etc.
(^MAJOR Primordium/Halo Universe Spoilers^)

while its probably within the technology of the forerunners to do this, i hope to god 343i doesnt. jesus that would be really really bad. also, been waiting for cortana to go rampant since ce - i had better get my pay-off

Ugh journalism. These two articles give me such a damn headache.
What I found a lot more interesting is how different the game itself seems to feel. Granted, we didn't play it ourselves, but simply watching the demo run-through of the multiplayer map was enough to convey a sense of change. Chief seems to move a little more? well, not slowly, exactly, but with more mass and inertia than before. The sound effects he creates while running have more weight behind them, too. Movement in Halo has always felt a bit like gliding -- a smooth and almost frictionless experience -- even if it doesn't move as fast as many other shooters. That looks to have changed with Halo 4, and the overall effect is remarkably similar to -- wait for it! -- Call of Duty.
I see what you mean.

[In Anniversary] We were able to play around with [Kinect] in really fun ways that I don't think we could do with a mainline Halo sequel. So Halo 4 won't have any specific Kinect functionality in that way

I see what you mean.
Them bk articles. We have so little info.
Surely 343 expected this kind of misinformation/silliness?

I haven't finished the book yet, but is that event really that different than the way human AI are created in the first place? Standard practice for the UNSC is to basically make a virtual copy of a living brain right?
My point being, the tech for going wetware > software has existed for a while, that device would have to be capable of going the opposite direction for Cortana to do a Pinocchio

And I don't see how it should save Cortana. Cortana goes/went rampant because of the amount of information she stored. It'll be even much more painful if she has this amount of information in a "human brain".

That 1up article is full of eff.
Typically, Halo mulitplayer makes an effort to tell you're doing well during specialty tricks, with the voice of Jeff Steitzer gravely announcing spectacle moments like double or triple kills as they happen.
Ok.
Just to be clear, I'm not making a value judgment here, and I don't mean to knock Call of Duty. I just worry -- half the shooters on the market are trying to be Halo or Call of Duty. I'd hate to see those two series try to be one another. It's a singularity of creativity from which there would be no escape.

Really, I don't care that much about how Halo multiplayer changes, because multiplayer is decidedly not my bag. I'm just in it for the campaign mode (both single-player and co-op), and we haven't seen enough of that facet of the game to develop any real opinions. So far 343 has shown off a bunch of nearly abstract concept art from which people who are waaaay more into the series' lore than I am have managed to glean some interesting tidbits, but besides knowing that Halo 4 launches a new trilogy about diving into the Master Chief's "rich inner life," I can't say too much about what I personally have to look forward to in the game. I thought the "feel" of the game seemed promising, and as long as they don't get rid of the DMR or nerf the Chief's melee attack to ODST levels, I'm sure I'll have a good time.

What do you think of the developers' mission statement to explore more of what makes Master Chief tick? I'm all for character development, but I question how much character there is for the Chief to possess. The guy was kidnapped as a kindergartener, turned into a killing machine, and has spent his entire life as a weapon for other people to point at problems to make them go away. Between fights, he hangs out in deep freeze. Can a man with such a singular purpose offer an intriguing personality? If 343 wants to explore the ethics of war from the perspective of a smart man turned into a murder device, more power to them, but it seems like the team could be hanging its shingle on a very shaky peg.
OK.

Boy, there isn't a better spokesperson for the franchise than Frank O'Connor...every concern or worry I have melts away when that man talks Halo.

Dani, great job on the info hub. Excellent resource for catching up on media coverage.

Has it been confirmed if Steve Downes and Jen Taylor are returning to voice the Chief and Cortana?

EDIT: I guess Steve Downes is returning according to IMDB, but it doesn't say anything about Jen. I really hope she is.

We really should be... We've waited for pattern customization since Halo 2. At least i have.

From one of the Spartans who had red/white designs all over his armor, one going over the mouthpiece, I have a hunch we might even be able to stretch patterns over the armor and colour then at our free will.

Yup, that would be nice. Also, I may get some flak for saying this, but its bugging me so Ill get it out there- I think the MP Spartans are too red and blue. Not the actual color, just how much of the model is covered in the color. I liked Reach's way of breaking up the color a bit and was hoping the game would give them a further cinematic look rather than all red or blue.

Oh crap, I nearly missed this, 343 totally delivered on those 14K resolution 'shots:
Nice catch, those look fantastic! There is a ton of detail in those models, wow.. I wont lie though, I wish the texture of the armor didn't look so flat.. I always liked Halo 3's beta and announcement look, they way it popped and caught the light was amazing.

Hmmmm.. I wonder who it will be then, and what the contract issue is exactly?

She's a bit too young looking to be Serin Osman from Glasslands and I just doubt it would be Naomi Sentzke or any of the Spartan II's or threes.

I'm guessing either some UNSC/ONI person, a Spartan IV, a human Separatist or maybe even the new face model for Cortana, pre-Avataresque skin shading. Or just a face model used for demonstrating some new software technology.

In other words, no clue.

I was thinking it may be Lucy? Im not sure though TBH..

It feels very unChiefly to have him making a snide comment after every headshot and multikill. That's the thing that really makes it feel wrong to me. The voice acting seemed fine.

What happened to Neil Davidge composing the announcement trailer being big news? I thought he was composing the full game, too. :lol

I swear I typed this post before and suddently it was gone.

I'll guess Gamescom is going to be my first Hal0 4 try then (hopefully).

I might try attending this year, too. Who knows.

Annnd I'm back. Did I miss anything from the last 4 hrs?

Armor Lock was confirmed.

Xand and Bobs were having a intense discussion on the pro's and con's of a beta.

Pretty good discussion as well.

I hate them both.

If they can great, if not I'll live. 343i seems good about getting TU updates out and fixing issues so I'm sure if there are any we are in good hands. Halo 2 didn't have a beta and is my favorite MP game if that's anything lol.

One thing that strikes me about the trailer is how much they emphasized mobility in the the gameplay footage. Almost every shot was of Spartan IVs jumping, strafing, or sprinting. Hope that's a good sign.
Movement in Halo 4 confirmed.

Well my xbox seems to have had enough with halo, it won't let me start any games in Halo 3 or Reach
:-(

Was it your favourite game pre-patch or post?

And that was the number one concern, how much can they catch through internal play testing if it's not available to the public to test drive.

Anyone else share the opinion that Wraparound looks terribly boring aesthetically? Warhouse looks better but shares depressing similarities with Countdown.

Seriously, if 343i can just nail the maps then that's pretty much all I can ask for; I want maps as good as Lockout, Valhalla, Burial Mounds, Headlong, Zanzibar, Ascension, Sanctuary, High Ground and The Pit.

We've seen 2 maps today. I imagine there's more to be shown later.

I'm looking forward to the Halo 4 Gulch/Coag/Valhalla.

Speaking of which, they should follow the trend and do a remake of Valhalla. Make me happy.
