What I see happening

MP info up until E3 when we get a big SP blow out and find out our enemy. Then July-September there will be a massive marketing campaign on the size of the Halo 3 one.

Obviously there will be MP info in those months too but I imagine there will not be too much SP info as I can see them wanting to keep most of that a secret.

I have a felling next months magazines might have more coverage. Dont forget E3 isnt too far away either.

Truthfully, I suspect we will get a mini multiplayer reveal between now and April, showing off some basic gametypes, new weapons and vehicles. I expect that the "loadouts" will be saved for another date.

Remember, according to the email from Jada toys that their die-cast toys will be revealed sometime in April.. So, I suspect what they plan to show will be revealed prior, at least to a degree.

You know, I wouldn't mind if we saw virtually nothing from Campaign.. Like basically an in engine version of the concept art teaser, something sets the tone, shows some locations, but doesn't spoil the story. It would be ballsy, but I would approve.

All I really care about is what are the new enemies and have they kept the usual halo "sandbox" from Halo 3 and Reach. My biggest fear is they sacrificed the scope of the battle areas for prettier graphics, much like Bungie did for Halo 2 IMO.
The way 343 talks about keeping the sandbox intact makes me think they won't sacrifice the scope of the battles, I would bet that they make it even bigger. I have nothing else to base it on, but your fears are also my fears.

I am actually fine with them showing no SP but for their marketing campaign they will need it. What I don't want is them to do what Bungie did with Reach and show us nearly all the environments before launch. I want to have a few HOLY SHIT! moments when I play SP.

What is really awesome though is due to no beta I wont be spoiled on the gameplay part of it, well that is if they dont have the MP at comic-con this year lol

I hope nothing but MP info here on out. I'm a big Bungie fan but they showed WAY too much stuff from their last few Halo games in regards to the campaign. Keep the SP under wraps as far as I'm concerned. Go Rockstar GTA style where ZERO gameplay is shown before launch.

That would mean the marketing effort would be aimed towards fighting a new unknown threat and the MP aspects of the game. Which I am fine with but I dont know if that would be successful, but hell just slap Halo 3 on Mountain Dew, Doritos and every TV station imaginable and it probably will lol

Also I can not wait until the Forge reveal for Halo 4.

Just watched the video, looked kinda lowres but it's very hard to tell. Any screenshots out?

These are the only direct screens released, which are from the SP, anything else is a screen cap from the video

(The first 2 are available at a super high resolution elsewhere, but I can't find the links)

The MP seems to be looking good also, but unfortunately the video doesn't show enough to determine how good.

I agree, I really hope they don't spoil too much.. After Bungie showed us LNoS, I thought "Man, if they are showing us this, what crazy stuff aren't they showing us!?". Too bad they ended up showing way too much. I hope 343 avoids this with Halo 4, and I think showing most things from MP and very little from SP is the way to go.

I wonder if they make new maps for Firefight.

Hopes for the extra modes

Firefight: Bring it back to being about survival like ODST was, take A LOT of lessons from Gears 3

Forge: Just make it like the Far Cry editor

Theater: Have it be like Halo 3 but without the random drop outs

I would rather see forge get the chopping block before FF. I'm all in for cutting both if it means more and better MP maps

Due to the fact MP has its own story and the maps are built from the ground up makes me think Halo 4 will be a 2 disk game which means the extras will probably stay too.

I don't think they need to. Campaign spaces are already built with AI behaviour in mind and I honestly think it would be for the best if they did share spaces with Campaign for that reason.
Yeah, makes sense. Still making specific maps or remaking older maps for Firefight would be cool.

I hope none of the regulair stuff introduced over the years gets the chopping block, would be a shame.

Yes, I would be fine with both getting axed. FF more so because the net code is never going to be up to snuff to make it fun, for me anyways.

I also kind of take 343's treatment of FF in Reach as maybe an indicator that we're getting something different on that front for 4.

Forge is already confirmed for Halo 4 so that wont be getting axed. Weird that it was the first thing confirmed for the game too.

Anyways so everyone pretty much agrees on no major SP reveals like Bungie did right?

Firefight/Horde stuff has been beaten to death and repetitive as hell, let it die but keep Forge and use themes like Halo, Covenant, Forerunner, etc.

Oh hell yes. If they show off SP take it from the first 10 minutes of the game. Don't blow your wad like Bungie did and show half the levels in your first vidoc. I still can't believe the final level of a Bungie created Halo game was in the Reach beta. When all was said and done with Reach it was 100% obvious it was the game they agreed to make for MS so they can go independent. I for one am glad for the changing of the guards.

Those screenshots still have sort of a Reach feel to me because of the blurred object edges that serves as a replacement for AA.

Anyone with me on this?

Those Campaign gifs/screen shots are looking good and hopefully representative of the final game. This is a screenshot from the March before Reach's launch FWIW.

Where was forge confirmed?

I feel that's giving them too much credit. Not that they won't do something different in H4, but more that Reach FF is very low on their priorities.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

I didn't really have much issue with Reach's leveling system. I play for fun, for the most part. I like to be competitive and have challenging games and whatnot, but the numbers never really meant much to me.

They meant a lot to my friends though, and without the number based ranking system or something comparable to replace it, they stopped playing. They didn't like arena. So a few months into Reach's life I was essentially playing alone. So if for no other reason, I hope the ranking system changes for 4 just so my friends will play seriously again.

Same for my friends, once the new CoD dropped they went away from Halo for a few months until recently. We all loved playing ranks and leveling up and arena doesn't cut it.

I would say Reach looked that good, if not better in the final game. The one thing that stands out to me is maybe the Spartans are casting more self shadows in the image? One way or another, Halo 4 is looking leagues better. That's not to say Reach looked bad, but there was certainly room for improvement.

That was exactly what I was getting at. :) There's other pics from that set that had less foliage and stuff than the final game too.

So much to get excited for in the coming months.

Just want to not be spoiled before I play the game myself. Might have to take waitMate for the rest of the year so I can wake up with HALO 4 in my hands.

Hey yall, me and some other HaloGAF folks are gonna be playing some Reach customs tonight (8pm Pacific) if anyone wants to join in.

I'm experimenting with "Bonus Slayer" settings. I currently have it at 500 points to win, with 10 points for kills, and 5 bonus points each for headshots, assassinations, and kills while on a spree. TU settings, including bleedthrough. Armor abilities, and 110% movement speed.

I don't want to spam this thread with Reach stuff, so go to the Halo OT in the community section if you want to discuss this more. <3

i want the forge to allow for editing geometry and terrain instead of giving us building blocks

Both please! Terrain building would be great but they just need to add way more variety on the building blocks. Lots of gray stuff gave Reach loads of identical maps. Need more Human, Forerunner and Covenant objects. If it is in Halo 4, it should be there for Forge use.

Yeah, I watched that one. I still think it looks low res. The aliasing is very noticeable. The lighting looks very good though.

Confirmed native 720p, and the final game will have some form of anti aliasing.

If it looks low res then it's just the video compression.

Don't believe it until I see it.

But it looks great. Good art direction. Reach looked too brown and muddy. This is a good mix of Halo color and realism grittiness.

More of a splitscreen LAN player myself so my biggest graphics hope is that they have better draw distance than Reach where people were invisible until they were close up to you and objects had no textures until you were right infront of it.

Looks incredible. I love Bungie but I'm excited to see what that All-Star team at 343i will be able to do here. The early returns are promising.

But yes, halo 2 matchmaking was incredibly special just because of the ranks alone.

I played and played and played just to get higher levels.

Halo 2 is one of my all-time favorite online FPS experiences. It came out at the perfect time for me. I played it so much that I almost enjoyed when my teammates quit so I could try to take on 4 guys at once. The standbyers were such shit heads, though...

I also fucking loved Waterworks in BTB. That was such an awesome and underrated map.
