i wouldn't use vibrams for anything but squatting and deadlifting, but thats just me.

for hill sprints i use my track spikes or soccer cleats. i've done them in tennis shoes before, and wow that sucks. no thanks.

so spikes/cleats

+1

Used those for a while for every thing-lifting, running, cardio, walking, etc...

Got plantar fasciitis and went right back to Asics.

Sup guys, I recently fell off the wagon. I began drinking and partying and haven't really put much effort into working out. I feel somewhat overwhelmed and I stopped because I was not seeing results as quickly as I wanted. Does anybody have any motivational videos or something like that? I just need to stay motivated but can't seem to find the right trigger to get me back on track.

So I decided to take a week off from lifting, and dieting. Best decision ever. I killed it today at the gym. Increased my squat, press, and power cleans by 5lbs, and for the first time ever I ran two miles non stop (it was only 12 min miles though). Feeling great right now, and I am getting closer to my weight goal.

Any suggestions on good work out supplements if your looking to bulk up? Nothing extreme.

i pretty much stuff my face with everything i see that is mildly edible and doesn't have MSG (monosodium glutamate) in it
and i also have 1-2 protein shakes a day. i like to think i'm getting my needed calories. just don't forget to eat fruit and veggies

I kind of have a dilemma in a similar situation to what TheFatOne did, where I'm not going to be able to go to the gym at all until next Monday, because of Spring Break.

Now, should I do home exercises like some push-ups and chin-ups, or should I just take advantage of the week off from everything, and totally relax?

MJFrancis can you post that muscle up training page again?
I need to bookmark it so I can start training for it.

Those are three different articles on the muscle-up by Al Kavadlo. The link sandwiched in the middle is more for the advanced guy who has these down already (So Cooter and MrOogieBoogie have something to read) and the others are tutorials.

I attempted to get the muscle-up tutorial from Jim @ Beastskills up, but the site is experiencing a little trouble and even direct linking doesn't work right now. Maybe when he fixes it I can add it to the list.

^ This is what I love about working out hard. You just simply have to eat like a beast to maintain your body weight, or more if you are bulking. People at work are shocked at the amount of food that comes out of my lunchbox.

Did Deadlifts about a 10 days and the next day, I have pain all around my waist/lower back and if I have to walk it starts to get worse. Going to the doctor monday but does it sound like I strained my muscles or worse?

Whats weird is not just my lower back but the pain seems to localized just below my stomach and circles around to my back.

Have you ever done deadlifts before? The first time for me was brutal - I was sore for a week. The pain was in my quads, hamstrings, gluts, lower back, the area around my pelvis. My advice is to get as much rest as you can and eat well. I can't tell by your post, but you shouldn't be doing deadlifts 10 days straight. I only do them once a week on Friday because my legs are shot to hell and I use the weekend to recover.

I remember the first time I did deadlifts (or maybe it was squats...) I was so sore in my lower back. I couldn't walk straight and it was hard as hell to walk up stairs. Kind of liked it though, always nice to feel sore.

oh yeah, meant 10 days ago and I am on my second run thru with Madcow 5x5 but this is the first time I have felt this sort of pain after a session.

Shooting pain around your torso is probably not good. Can happen with back injuries. Hopefully just a strain. Take an NSAID and relax. If you just did it apply ice, otherwise heat may help

just relax. you're not going to lose your gains in a week and you'll probably be stronger when you do get back from the rest

Alright, thanks. I know I'll probably be fine, but I always feel like I'm cheating myself by not going to the gym.

You're right though.

yeah the mental part is the worst. when I tweaked my elbow and stayed out for a week it was driving me insane.

There is no purple in that steak. There is deep red, the way a rare to med/rare should be.

You are ruining your steak.

that is for sure purple
but i don't ruin steak because i never cook it :p i rarely have it, only when we go out or my dad makes it. however i'd rather have my picture than mechas

That happened to me with my lower back. Messed it up and I ended up having to stop lifting all together for more than two weeks.

I guess you just have to realize that sometimes, it's better (or okay) to take a week off. It's still not easy to just do though, you know?

Can anyone help me out with my previous question?

If you have been working hard for 6-8 weeks, I would recommend using the week off as your deload week. Just eat healthy and rest.

About a month ago I got sick and took the whole week off. When I went back to the gym I made 5lb gains across the board without difficulty.

Thanks. I'm gonna follow FitGAF's advice on this one and just relax!

You should get checked for color blindness, that steak isn't purple in the slightest.

Hey guys starting P90X soon and wanted to know if my eating schedule is good. Was wondering if I should be getting my protein, carbs, fats, veggies, fruits servings, etc at certain times in the day or as long as I get them all in by the end of the day it's all good?

8 AM - wake up and workout for 1 hour.

9 AM - after workout recovery drink

10 AM - breakfast.

1 PM - snack

3 PM - lunch

7 PM - dinner

9 to 11 PM - snack

I'm not used to eating this often basically every 2 hours so this will be a challenge.

Are you trying to lose weight? There's no real evidence that frequent eating will increase your metabolism thus leading to improved weight loss. As long as you get your daily servings in, you should be okay.

Not really. Just tone and lower body fat %. My weight is fine. I'm just trying to follow the nutrition plan included.

Edited schedule. 2 snacks instead of 3.

I like the feeling from heavy lifting, but I think I've progressed enough that I can make the transition. How do you like it and what kind of bodyweight routine do you do?

I like it alot actually.

I actually asked MjFrancis for help and I put together stuff from the http://www.alkavadlo.com/

Here's a good one.

http://www.alkavadlo.com/2011/05/minimal-equipment-workouts/

How about keep the barbell for lower body stuff and do all upper body stuff with bodyweight?

Yeah. I think I'm just gonna squat and deadlift once a week instead.

I see (from googling) that some people add dextrose to their shakes to get carbs. Right now my shake is pretty much just protein + skim milk, so there aren't many carbs there.

Is this a reasonable thing to do? Any reason why I shouldn't? Thanks.

Spiking your insulin will allow greater absorption of proteins into your muscles, aka supposedly allows you to build muscle more efficiently (more of the protein being used). This is why you'll often hear of bodybuilders consuming gummy bears or something like that with their protein shakes post-workout.

I normally have a banana with my protein shake or a sugary Jamaican bread like bulla bun or spice bun

As for the steak, as a black man, I always used to have my shit WELL DONE and cooked. But yesterday I decided to cook it for about 5 mins on each side, then let it rest. When I cut into it I didn't see how raw it was, I was like damn this tasty, next bite was when I took the pics, I was like "man Ima be sick in the morning" but I tell you thi, it was bloody beaaaautiful. No way will I ever have a well done steak

Is that classed as medium?

Looks so good! What's that in the background? Looks like cheesy potatoes or some kind of rice.
Haha, it's brown rice and a small bit of potato salad. I had no sauce!
