Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

Status
Not open for further replies.
Who's to say they bumped the specs that much? No one actually knows how powerful the Wii U was last year or how powerful it is now. Even if it's revealed to be at the bleeding edge of technology at this E3, nothing says it wasn't close to that last year. People are getting these numbers by taking vague statements from developers, determining how many x Wii U is than 360 based on those statements, and then rationalizing their conclusion with more specific spec guesses after the fact. It's such a backwards way of figuring things out that I think the amount of confusion has actually resulted in a less clear view of what the consoles can do than we had before.

I definitely agree with the point you are making, but I think we can safely say there's enough info available to know Wii U wasn't close to bleeding edge last year.

My source is my ass!
I wouldn't doubt it. Hell, didn't a few websites quote ideaman on the RAM?

And not just for that, but a lot of them have been speculating/exaggerating/telling something completely different that i've said (and what others like lherre told us, etc.).

I try to be the more precise possible, this is why i often say the same thing in two different manners in my "new info posts", and stay on the topic for a moment after to counter any mis-interpretation.

But it's not enough :(

And please, consider the idea of making "summarize beacon" every 10 pages with links, easily findable for people asking "what's new since 7 days ?". Because answering them "absolutely nothing" while this last week was rather rich with a lot to debate/speculate about, from the middleware on Wii U to the OS/ram story, don't forget the trust-worthy gafer with its news concerning UE4, games partially announced on the system, etc. well it's frustrating :(

BTW, hello guys ! And all the talk about OS memory occupation on other platforms + how Nintendo could handle transitions between games&applications&background, all the multi-tasking stuff, was really interesting :)

And uhhhhhhhh, vive les crêpes !

I doubt the Wii U will be bleeding edge at all. Luckily no one expects that right...

right?

No, but question. At this point, what would bleeding edge be? I mean, Southern Island is already out and Kepler is on it's way. If those are bleeding edge, then i don't expected ANY console to use bleeding edge.

The problem is that there is no one (even myself) that follows and reads every single page of this topic.
So making a summary is really hard.

I agree. I don't think any of them will reach that level due to pricing. I say in the most base of terms, the Wii U will be stronger than this gen (much stronger in some areas like RAM), 720/ps4 will be more capable than wii u, but not by as much as this generation, and not by as much as some people might think, but noticeably more capable none the less. And none of the 3 will have anything close to the latest tech.

That's just going off of common sense and all the rumours from this thread and other threads regarding other consoles.

Exactly. I have my account set for 100 posts per page and sometime 3-4 pages will have passed by the time I check the thread. At best I might skim through them.

I think also bleeding edge for some is using something that isn't commercially available. Xenos is a prime example of causing that thought.

The thread is slowly getting to 2000 posts. Ace, could you make some charts about this threads. Like he who posted the most, how many posts per day this thread had. That kind of stuff. I suppose the hype train was the fastest moving part. xD

I can give totals, but I'm not doing a "Posts Per Day" thing.
>_>

I wonder if OT3 will last until E3. I could imagine this thread slowing down unless someone drops some information to keep it going.

edit: DAMN lol the words taken right out of my mouth

We should definitely get some info next month that will spur conversation more.
And May the leaks will begin.
So we'll likely need a fourth one before E3, but it likely won't top out. After that, we'll have a discussion thread.

We could pay you in food for this ! Come on !

AceBandage
serial-replier & fatal summarizer !

Seriously though, yeah, this is hard and time-consuming for the ones who will do that so not a lot of chance to occur :(

yeah I was gonna say, makes no difference since regardless of what OT number we're on, there will be a conference discussion thread made anyway.

Also next month because the investors again right?

Yup. It was near the end of April last year, so somewhere between the 20th and the 30th.

Please help me with my bad english
I wonder if we will have an OT 4 before E3 starts. I guess it matters on whether or not we get significant info before hand.

This thread was well ahead of my expectation since we didn't get much info, but I still believe that if we start to get real info that have threads made about them it will slow down the pace of the thread. This thread did slow down when we got the info from the investor's meeting.

Well, the discussion dies down until those threads fade, then it shifts to here for the regulars to actually pick things apart which speeds it back up.
So it all kind of evens out.

If we count up to your post (#19840) AceBandage, the average amount of posts per day equals 368.448958026718120761745935501 posts. So, something along 370 posts a day should be about the end result.

All right, and there we go.
:p

Actually we really didn't talk about it in this thread. I think all the talk stayed in the other threads about it. That's what I expect to happen if we do start getting more info. But that's the only way the next thread might make it to E3.

86 days feels like years away, I doubt were going to hear anything from now until E3 now.
lol I don't think that is even physically possible. Leaks ALWAYS happen a month (give or take) before E3, so at the least we could always depend on that. I don't think any company has kept EVERYTHING under wraps for years and years now.

Sorry if I'm a bit late, but have we discussed the OS at all yet? I'm interested to see what Nintendo will make of it. The Wii's TV channel theme kinda got stale after a while. Hopefully they do something more visually appealing, without taking up too much RAM of course.

Fucking IGN revealing DKCR before E3...

Like the 3DS, it'll probably be another evolution of the Channels theme. It'll likely look more like the 3DS's OS on the controller, but flashier on the TV.

just know that the more leaks there are, the more megatonss a piece of news that wasn't leaked sounds when it's revealed. Imagine everything leaks and there is no new zelda mention. Then at the end of the conference a trailer for an actual Zelda game plays...

...dundundundundund. Example of course.

Aw man.. I was hoping they were gonna do something completely different. Maybe they should look to going back to something like the Gamecube's.

Before anyone kills me, I know the Gamecube had a wafer-thin OS, but I believe expanding it to be more comprehensive and detailed could be interesting.

The GC's OS was just channels too, though.

Wow, didn't notice how close we are to 20,000 post. Then new thread, with more over hyping of E3, Rumors, ideaman, and everything else that was posted before.

Wii U Speculation Thread 3: According to my sources...

Just kidding.

Sounds fitting to me.

Getting back to this article
I do hope somebody can eloborate / speculate on the significance of
Nintendo purchasing Mobiclip:

Nintendo beefed up its proprietary arsenal with the acquisition of Mobiclip- a Paris-based video codec provider. What can we expect to come from this?

In terms of MobiClip, you’ll get to SEE more of Mobiclip stuff later this year. Their technology will be common on Nintendo platforms from here on in.

Edit to add:

Were they behind that Tokyo Street demo?

I'm still waiting for the day someone comes up with an "overworld hub" OS, with a world that expands and has little easter eggs added to it as you buy new games...

Someday... =(
