Batman Arkham City |OT| Smashin' Faces, Glidin' Places

438/440

Arse!

2 combat riddles to gain, counter 3 thrown items and explode an item with the batarang before it gets thrown.

Anyone got a suggestion for a good spot to try and nail these last 2? Apart from the main city, everywhere is barren of enemies. Steel Mill, Museum... only place that seems to have any left is the courthouse (and there's a TON of guys in there) but there doesn't seem to be anything for anyone to try and throw at me :-(

Does Batman and Gotham take place as a fictional city in the real world? I only ask this because the game makes references to places like [Las] Vegas, and the movies obviously reference places like China, Russia etc. Never knew for sure before.

According to an introduction in some Batman comic, whose title now escapes me (Gotham Central?), Gotham is more or less based on New York.

Once you finish the game, the city kinda fills back up. Or at least check out the area near the church, there's a few places where the random bad guys will pick up random debris to throw at you.

Cheers. Found a spot on the road leading to the Monarch strewn with boxes and one fire hydrant along with a load of thugs. Took a few visits and the stark realisation that all those times Batman wrestled a box off a thug wasn't what I was after (you need to be at a distance and Batman catches and smashes it).

All Catwoman loot recovered
All sidemissions 100%

Phew!!

I actually started NG+ already too... wtf am I thinking?! I'm back up to the Gladiator fight, which has been kicking my arse (which I put down to, y'know, 2am).

Still can't get beyond 2 medals in any combat challenge though.

Pro-tip: Abuse Bat-swarm.

If you takedown every goon you're making a rock for your own back. Batswarm drives up the multiplier but doesn't insta-kill.

Just build up using standard hit and evade/jump alternation, then use batswarm when you're surrounded. Boom.

This tactic works supremely well against the abramovici's, as you can stunlock them by starting a beatdown, then hitting batswarm every 5 hits. You can make a sick number of points off them.

That could be exactly what happened to me. I had finished the game and was going around doing all the side stuff and thinking about doing new game plus. I had just finished Azreal when I quit. So it is very possible it didn't save right after getting that achievement. What a piece of shit. All I had left was Zsasz (not doing Riddler shit).

My save file is there and everything, it just doesn't see it. No "file corrupt" or anything. I was able to roll back to a previous version of the file thanks to windows. So I only lost my progress last night (entire ID theft, Azreal, couple Zsasz calls, and a bunch of Riddler thugs to fill in my map for the hell of it). Oh well, at least it's back and I'll be making backups everytime I finish playing from now on.

Started new game plus. Felt like a god on normal by the end, getting fucking wrecked in new game plus.
I just lost my save, and my rollback save works, but it's a lot further back than I'd like to be. I... think I'm going to put this in my backlog. I have plenty of games that don't randomly eat saves.

I'm about to finally dive into Arkham City on PC. Are there any tweaks I should know about before I start? I have a pretty high end PC, I remember hearing DX11 ran kind of shitty, would it be best if I just stick with DX9?

DX11 can't even make it through the logos without stuttering, so yeah, stick with DX9.

(Also, back up your save constantly.)

DX9 does the sound stuttering issue at the logos as well.

Anyways is there anyways to get the PC version locked at 30fps. My game runs at 60 most of the time but I cant really stand the minor dips when flying around outside.

I saw some maxframerate smooth settings in the ini but changing those had no effect.

bad gameplay lol
So I just picked this up, but sans Catwoman code. I bought one from eBay because I'm a cheapass, but it hasn't arrived yet and I'd like to start playing now. About how far can I play before the first Catwoman scene would trigger? I'd like to at least play that far then stop and wait for the Catwoman code (if it hasn't arrived by then).

First Catwoman scene is literally the opening scene of the game. :/

Is there a way to counter more than one opponent at a time? I could have sworn I accidentally countered two attackers once, but most of the time when I counter and two enemies attack me, I'll begin my counter animation against one of the aggressors and then the second one interrupts it.

I thought the Penguin was really dumb in this game. A handcuffed Bruce Wayne beats down a bunch of his thugs, breaks out of the handcuffs, climbs up the side of a building to escape, and suddenly Batman appears later that night.

It's also known that Batman has to be either A)A rich person or B)Funded by a rich person due to the gadgets and vehicles he has. Bruce Wayne is a rich person.

Really how stupid do you have to be not to put 2 and 2 together?
Isnt that basically a superhero trope though?

Press the counter button multiple times in correspond to how many enemies are attacking you. So press twice for two enemies, etc. Don't mash it tho. With Batman you are generally safe to just hit it once, but with all others you must press extra

With Batman if I hit it once, it never works. I could have sworn I tried out of just trying random things, to hit it twice if I saw two enemies coming at me, but that didn't work. I'll try it again though and mess with the timings of the presses. It could be that I'm playing it on hard mode so it's more difficult to do perhaps?

The PC version is the only game that has ever given me trouble to run on my PC. Audio popping, extremely slow to load, GWFL being shit and not registering (even though other games are fine), the DRM counting formats as unique PCs (I've played it for about 20 minutes and I have 2 out of 5 uses left), it just gives me the shits. Trying to boot it up now with my new-ish 7970, so let's see how it runs.

Oh great, GFWL won't let me sign in because of network problems. What, I'm on the internet and I was just playing SWTOR? Jesus, I mean seriously.

Worked all the time for me. If you have two enemies with attack microwaves over their heads, you hit it twice. Three attack microwaves, three times. Rapid succession. I never had any problems if I hit it twice but only needed it once. But if I needed it twice and just hit it once, I'd get punched by the second guy mid-counter of the first.

Some of the best counter animations are the ones used for multiple guys, too.

It shouldn't be a problem. You see two guys coming up with counter symbols, just mash Triangle / Y - shit works. It's pretty lenient, not much thought required. Just mash brah.

Could possibly be the timing, since hard mode takes out the attack indicator. Othet that that, no difference. Well, you can always make it a habit of just hitting it multiple times. You can do it!

Yeah, the initial load is really long. At least DX11 ran silky smooth on my 7970, it was pretty much unplayable on the old 6970 I had.

What?

I played AC in dx11 fine on my PC.

Core i7 920 @ 3.8ghz
GTX 590

50-60fps but mostly 60.
No stutters and it was great.

I'm about 14% through this game and it has already surpassed my expectations. Aside from the raging I did during the augmented reality training where you have to glide through the clown mouth through the tunnel, I've really been enjoying this.

I was afraid it wouldn't have the same appeal that AA did because I really liked the close quarters and claustrophobic feel of it. While you do miss some of those more elaborate building layouts (at least so far, all the buildings I've been in have just been one or two rooms) it still works. Great game.

Just finished this. Enjoyed it but the entire end sequence felt rushed, especially the boss.
And what was the deal with the Joker still being alive? Really didn't like that. Felt like a cop out.

Also, Batman with
a sword
was an awesome sequence. I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned that. I kinda wish he had kept the darned thing.

I like to think the entire game is a giant "this is how Batman Begins should have been"...

Finally finished this sucker a day or two ago, now I'm just chipping away at various achievements. I'm having a bitch of a time with the phone call one though. For whatever reason it didn't register with me that I had to move the cursor to "trace" the calls right away, so I feel like I missed an opportunity to get more progress on the initial call. Now I'm at a point where the initial call comes in, I answer it, and the second call is really far away (460+ meters). It seems impossible for me to reach the phone in time. The closest I've gotten was being 30 or 40 meters away when time ran out. Anyone have any hints/tips?

Don't glide. I had the same problem and once I stopped gliding and kept boost-grappling I always managed to make in time. You should glide only briefly to reach the nearest water tank or gargoyles (usually the highest points in any district). Activating detective mode once you are close to the phone and divebombing for the final stretch will help too.

I got this game for christmas but started with it last week. When I insert the Catwoman code it says that it's not correct or no longer valid. What the hell? It says on my card that it will expire in 2021.

I know that people had problems with the Catwoman code, but I can't find anything about this problem. I have the code but it doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas of what's wrong?

Are there awards for avatars tied to this game? Is that every game nowadays? Believe it or not, flipping through my guide on 360, I only just discovered these last night.

I hope this can help someone:

Did not get the game to work properly on PC despite obviously sufficient specs last year. Laggy open world was especially frustrating. DX9 was much better than DX10, but still laggy.

Processor: i5-2500k @ 3.3GHz
Ram: 8 gb
Graphics card: Geforce GTX 580

After updating to the latest nvidia drivers (295.73) I now get good performance (60 fps) in the game with the following settings.
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Anti-aliasing: 2 x MSAA
Directx 11 features: Off
Directx 11 tesselation: Off
Hardware accelerated physx: Normal
Every other setting maxed out

The game looks fantastic. The benefit from DX11 is negligible anyway and 2 x MSAA is more than enough in 1080p.

My copy arrived today, 360 version. I played for just one hour, but i can see that this is an amazing game. The score is wonderful. After Skyward Sword, this is the next game on my list.

A batch of the first copies that hit UK were reported to be lacking the code or featuring a code which didn't work. Maybe you got your hand on a VERY old copy ^_^
Anyway, contact the customer support. They will find a solution.

Just beat the game, fantastic. Question, I am in free roam and I went to the steel mill to collect the riddler trophies. How do I leave the steel mill? The blast furnace exit is now blocked and I can't reach the other exit because of the water. What am I missing?

Got this at the Best Buy $15 deal. Been playing a few days now. The game is unbelievably good. I usually rip on video game stories and dialogue and whatnot, but its actually pretty respectable in this game. Not far from what I'd expect of a decent movie. The gameplay shines, too. It seems simple at first, but eventually gets in-depth and all the gadgets and whatnot that are used for both combat and non-combat purposes are brilliantly done. There's always something to do, nothing feels repetitive, exploration is rewarding, the puzzles are well-done and I'm learning a ton about the Batman series in general(never really payed much attention outside of Batman Begins and Dark Knight).

Fantastic game. I can see why so many people had it as their GOTY's. This is a highly polished, highly entertaining game. Very glad I got it.

This game turned me into such a Batman fanboy. I am currently watching some of the old Batman tv shows with Adam West and loving every cheesy second of it! This game is definitely my GOTY 2011

Can you make a raft?

I remember being confused and lost for the same reason as you, but I can't exactly remember how I got out of it.

I think you go back to the Joker room. The explosion ripped a giant hole in the wall.
