Hey, I guess this is more of a Vita tech question.

In Uncharted, when you hold the vita up to a light source, how does that work? Is it the camera? I noticed it notified me that the network features were disabled after I was done, so I'm assuming it turned them on for some reason.

Yes, probably the rear camera.

How is the music player on the Vita? Better than, or about the same as the player on the PSP/PSPgo?

I think I may just get one of these.

One thing I think is better is that the fast forwarding is much faster. If you ever listened to podcasts or radio shows on your Go, you know how shitty it was to fast forward to 2 or 3 hours in. It was slow as hell. Something I personally hated about the Go was also the fact that accidentally hitting the shoulder button would always change the track, so if I had just fast forwarded a long podcast or radio show to the right spot, then hit the shoulder button, I'd have to start all over again. So for me that's a plus but others have stated they don't like that it doesn't change tracks that way.

Other than that I can't think of any disadvantages that the Vita has. It still saves your exact spot even when you close the music app, so that's still in tact.

Yeah, the fast forward and reverse were pretty terrible. About the shoulder buttons, I found myself setting the system to "lock" when listening to music.

I'm happy it still saves the same spot you left off. I actually enjoyed the old music player, I used it in my car all the time. Thanks!

Yeah I would do the same thing with the lock, but sometimes I'd fast forward to like 3 hours into a Stern show and then accidentally hit the shoulder button when I was trying to lock it. Or I'd hit it when I was unlocking it. Then I'd do the rage face lol

The builtin player has no playlist support, but it's integrared into the OS.

The Music Unlimited player has more features but it's just a standalone app with a subscription service.

I think Japan will get a NAX player.

Perhaps more will come via PS Suite.

Such as? Where are all these games? I live in a PAL territory so games like DLC Racer and that shitty AR Fighter came out at launch so there's been 2/4 weeks where nothing has been added to the store and next week it looks like there's no games coming out.

Did EU get free MotorStorm RC last week ?

I read that EU dropped PSP price on PSN. Is it accurate ?

Need some quick advice: when I first booted up my Vita, the rear touchscreen didn't work at all in my Little Deviants and Katamari demos. I powered it down, recharged it, and now it works perfectly! Has this happened to anyone else? I have a replacement on order from Amazon, but am not sure whether to keep it or not. Any advice? Thanks.

Sumioni: Demon Arts comes out next week. So there is that. (Well, okay not for PAL people. Sorry.)

(Mutant Blobs Attack) Someone on here, beat this score so I can go back and try to do better.

Just played this level again and got to rank 34. That is a tough one to speed run.

Try going after my best scores. On level 14 and 19 I am ranked number 1. ^_^

I want to try to beat these scores, but you have a Ron avatar. I doubt I'm man enough.

#1 huh...I think I may have to go after these scores.

Did they announced how people will get their PSN game and free month of 3g services?
You don't actually get the free month unless you purchase a month first. After purchasing one month, you get a voucher added to your phone provider account (i.e. ATT acocunt) which gives you a free month.

The free PSN game (SSDD + DLC) is supposed to come one month after you first purchase and activate the month you bought. I think a few people here on gaf got their codes already.

email code at the end of the 1st month I assume, and you must PAY for the 1st month to get your 2nd month free.

yeah I paid for the first month on the 15th, so I imagine I would be getting an email soon.

thanks

Now that I'm thinking about it, how on earth do you get the gold medallions on Mutant Blobs Attack? I can't do it on any level but one or two of the tilt-a-blob ones. Is it a matter of speed?

I live in North America so I can't speak to your experience in the PAL territories. I don't even know what you have or haven't gotten. But in the US since launch we've seen at least a smattering of releases each week. From MLB 12 The Show, to Ridge Racer, to Unit 13, to Motorstorm RC, and the assorted demos that have been trickling out every week. Granted, not a lot but after that massive launch I never expected to see a ton of stuff each week.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
I don't think you're ever going to see that. For the exact same reasons the iPhone and iPad have ignored it, and most people aren't bothered by it. Flash is being phased out, not phased in.
For a gaming device it would be great to have it, just for some of the games that you could play. I'd love to be able to play Abobo's Big Adventure on Vita. For that to work, there'd have to be some setting where you could map the face buttons to a keyboard keys that the games would expect you to use though.

See the vertical lines on the screen (sorry for the crappy cellphone pic)? Is this as common a problem as the blotches? Its really visible for me especially when using the browser at the lowest brightness setting and viewing sites with dark backgrounds. Panning around shows them very visibly since the entire screen is affected it seems.

EU did not get free MotorStorm RC.

Some PSP games got a price drop but there's really only one or two decent games out of that list and the price drop puts the prices more inline with the US store.

Been playing lots of Katamari. Soooo good! I love the spirit of this one. Great music and the bits with the king are funny. Just got all the curios!

I think it's just a point threshold, and probably before the time bonus. I started noticing that it would notify me when I had enough points for a silver or gold medal while playing in the level. That's why I don't think the time bonus matters for that, but I could be wrong.

*Edit- yeah it's definitely about the points. Try to collect all the point bubbles and eat all the stuff you can find even if you don't need to get bigger anymore.

Ugh, I don't know if I want to buy FFT and TO LUCT; have it on psp but I haven't played them in what feels like a year or so. Same with Persona, probably did 3/4s of it and stopped playing.

Canabalt mini came out this week but it doesn't appear on the Vita store, Sony really need to sort this out, I had to wait to get home and download via the PS3 store, why on earth are they not on the ball with this stuff.

Interesting, I didn't know they were bringing this game out on Minis until you mentioned it in this thread. It looks like it's not available in North America yet.

I'm curious to try it, how is it on the trophy side of things?

Touch My Katamari is reasonable for the most part, but there's one obscenely expensive costume piece that you need for a trophy. The grinding needed to get it is giving me Idea Factory flashbacks with my wife and I taking turns doing a super-fast level in hopes of getting a random bonus. Even though it's Namco Bandai, spending real money on DLC won't get it any faster. :/

Man, wipeout just started kicking my ASS today!

Ok, here's my question to you all: I can get UMvC3 from my job for $20.Worth it?

After playing the Shinobido demo, i may snag that soon, but I think I'll pick up Unit 13 tomorrowbfrom the best buy near work.

I'm really enjoying it, but I never owned it on the consoles, so the value proposition is still strong for me. And it looks and runs excellent--definitely a showpiece game.

Hmm, might buy this when I trade in Ninja Gaiden.

Also, what fighting game would GAF reccomend? UMvC3 or Blazblue? Does either one have online play?

PS Vita is nailing one aspect of gaming very quietly: High Scores.

So many of my Vita games have leaderboards you can compare to the world, or your friends list. These leaderboards keep me coming back. So even if you got 3 medals in a Motorstorm RC event, you still want to replay to beat your friends score. This is also the case with Wipeout, Unit 13, Lumines, and others.

And Near's ability to send challenges to your friends and neighbors amplifies the joy of beating high scores even further.

Not that high scores are new on Vita. Many current-games such as Burnout Paradise and SSX have friend's leaderboards. But Vita's leaderboards seem to be built into the SDK.

Umvc3 does. But I assume BB does as well.

I'd wager that marvel will have a stronger online community in the long run though.

I've been doing some ranked matches and the occasion lobby every night. Runs really well. Occasional lag, but the good matches far outweigh the janky ones.

Both have online but UMvC3 definitely seems like it has a higher online population.

Do you lobby with randoms? I've been looking for gaffers to play with, so if you want to add me: nya_08.

lol here's a cheap way to get through the puzzle trophies on Welcome Park. I still haven't done the 15 piece one yet though.

Pre-ordered Disgaea 3 from the NIS store. Man, can't wait for it; does anyone know if it'll have an option for HD sprites? Awesome if it does.

I doubt it. The PS3 version didn't have HD sprites, and its resolution was much larger than that of the Vita version's; The sprites are probably made for a 480p/i screen, and the Vita has 544p, as opposed to PS3's 720p(/1080p?).

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

I've never noticed such a thing...
