It's not an option. Something like that isn't a switch. You either build the OS and Game for it, or you don't.
And it's not even an OS level call that's logging into PSN. It's the individual application logging into PSN. When you freeze or put the application into sleep mode, that application logs off because the server believes you've logged off since the game is frozen.
So, I should expand my original point, it's not just Always online vs 3 hours battery life.
It's Always Online vs 3 hours battery life, no multitasking, no sleep mode, and probably a load of other things that will break the Vita OS.
Oh yes, all past and current games will not work with the Always Online feature if they decide to implement it. All they can do is speed up the process and hope everyone has good connectivity.
But you can log into PSN outside of apps. And I'm connected to the network outside of apps. I can even be connected while in sleep mode. My downloads, from PSN, continue if the Vita is sleeping.
If I'm in party chat, it'll stay connected to party chat no matter what I have open or closed (except for games like Uncharted that purposely turn it off the network on you).
So this leads me to believe that the current OS actually has the ability to leave you connected.
Plus my PS3 stays connected all the time. Why can't the Vita?
If I had the choice between
being connected at all times and having a lower battery life
or
being disconnected all the time and not knowing if I'm really online or not with a longer battery life
I choose the first option.
And if that's not possible, then that's too bad for me I guess. Theoretically, I would still prefer to be connected at all times - even at the expense of battery life.
Also note that that's not the issue I took with your mocking post.
The issue I took is that you would mock someone in the first place. Your post now is a great post. It presents some of the technical barriers you believe exist and addresses how you don't think it's possible to stay connected. Your other post was "Hahaha oh you're so funny."
See the difference between conversation and insults?
But anyway... I didn't want to single out a post, since these types of things run rampant on the internet. But stuff like that really hurts my feelings. I guess I'm not thick skinned enough or whatever. The internet would be a better place if people were more respectful of each other.
