well not really...yet
Really, you dudes like The Prestige more then Memento? I think Memento perfectly highlights Nolan's strengths in storytelling and shows more than any other movie that he has the potential to be a GREAT director rather than the decent-to-good director that he has been recently.
Prestige is pretty great dude

Im far from a Nolan fanatic. TDK goes to the looney bin in its last 1/3rd I think and Inception is mostly just a really cool Hans Zimmer score, but Prestige is just great moviemaking in pretty much all aspects. Great performances, theme, story and all that other stuff. Endlessly rewatchable, which is the opposite of Nolans movies lately.

Fuck, that was one hell of a trailer, masterfully done. I mean, it helps that the movie looks absolutely incredible, but just in terms of trailers, that has to be near the top for me. I've been excited for a while, but this just rocketed it to the top of my list. 2012 is going to be an awesome year for movies.

Prometheus and The Hobbit are also the only two movies I'm interested in watching in 3D anytime in the near future, as someone who almost never watches films in 3D. I think Gravity is also doing the 3D thing but I'll prolly watch the regular theatrical version of that one.

I'm torn on whether to watch Gravity in 3D. Cuaron was pushing for it to be shot in 3D, yet they're post-converting it. Nobody knows why. Maybe Lubezki had a problem with shooting in 3D. Either way, I have nfi how I'm going to watch that movie yet.

I know that I will refuse to watch The Hobbit in 3D unless it is being displayed at 48fps. That Hobbit trailer I saw in 3D was ghosting like a motherfucker.

Accidentally posted in the other thread.

Dare I say too much trailer? ;_; I couldn't look away.

I definitely reveals more of the movie than I hoped to see. The entire story arc seems to have been laid out, right down to (speculation)
ramming the alien ship to take it down, then one of the crew getting in the space jockey suit and setting up the warning at the end
.

Still, it had the effect of getting me more excited for the film, even if I'd rather not have had the story arc spelled out so clearly.

The only reason to watch The Hobbit in 3D is if it's combined with the 48 FPS, definitely. Prometheus I want to watch in 3D because I trust Ridley's visual eye and think he can do something great with it. In his case I don't see it being in 3D just to sell pricier tickets, even with Fox's involvement.

And Gravity is being post-converted? Yuck, didn't even know about that. Makes the decision easier. :p

Man, this movie is absolutely gorgeous. I mean... wow.

I love absolutely everything I saw. Everything.

I need this movie inside of me. Now.

8/8/2010 Blackace was here
Yeah, that was a dumb list.

The real potential owners of this year will be one of the following:

Ridley Scott
Peter Jackson
Alfonso Cuaron
The Wachowski Bros
Quentin Tarantino
Steven Spielberg
Christopher Nolan
Paul Thomas Anderson
Wes Anderson
add Martin McDonagh and we are good

It actually reminds me of a Tengu configuration from EVE Online. I have a Tengu named Prometheus. I should take some screenshots of it. :)

I liked the look of Eve, but I never got into it. Looked like too much micromanagement.

Hmm indeed.

H.R. Giger is synonymous with the Alien films as he created the look of the creatures and the film's look. The site asked Scott about his potential involvement in the film.

"I brought him in, I showed him what we were doing, showed him the story and he liked it a lot" said Scott. "So he's doing a little bit of work for me. He's been doing some murals, big murals, which we'll see in almost one of the first chambers we encounter when we land where we're gonna go."

I'd say that's one of Giger's murals.

Possibly, but look at this shot from the trailer (stealing MYE's posting of it):

FEZoz.jpg

The "tablet" second from the left has a stylized art piece on it that basically looks like a Gieger piece put through a "Cave Painting" or "Aztec" photoshop filter!

Film obviously needs Indiana Jones in it with all of these archaeological finds leading to ancient civilizations.

Right, but look again at Scott's quote: "...which we'll see in almost one of the first chambers we encounter when we land where we're gonna go." Clearly his work will be in the chamber on the planet, and not (just) on some presentation early in the film before they leave. That ceiling shot was clearly from the chamber and as such is a more likely candidate, and it oozes Giger's style.

would have seen this in the theater in the near future anyway so I don't care much, but I wish I had not seen it. I was already more than hyped by the succinct and nearly plotless teasers and the idea that Scott was returning to this world. Unavoidable though. Oh well. It's sort of like Cabin in the Woods. I never wanted to see that trailer, I already knew enough very small details of the premise and that had me amped. But that trailer is impossible to not see at a theater now. Sucks.

Just watched it for the first time. HOly Fucking Shit.
you can swear on the internet

While still nowhere near their 80s glory; since Avatar made them money, FOX does seem to be turning somewhat of a new leaf in terms of the quality of their projects.

I know, I was just pointing out another thing that seemed to have a heavy Giger influence (though it doesn't look to me like he'd have actually designed it).

If im seeing that art piece correctly, that is actually an old artifact found here on Earth that Ancient Astronaut theorists use to validate their theories. It makes its rounds on the actual show on history channel quite a bit. I could be blind though...

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

Post production 3D is awful and should be avoided at all costs. I don't care what Cameron's intentions were or even if they shot the film in a way they thought would benefit post production 3D. Nothing can change the fact it's a totally artificial alteration of the way the film was originally shot.

God I fucking hate post production 3D.

If you take this trailer to your average movie-goer, they'll just shrug and think "eh..seems interesting". (happened to me on 5 occasions already :p)

This really is a love letter to genre lovers.

If Fox's marketing push continues, and brings in major numbers, it can only mean good things from the Sci-Fi genre.

Kinda iffy about that PG-13 rating though :(

Five movies I need to see this year.

The Hobbit, Brave, Spiderman, Dark Knight Rises and this.

what a boring trailer, where are ma aliens????????????

just kidding. looks pretty fucking awesome. cant wait to see it later this year.

That was one of the most well made trailes I have ever seen. Heavy on content, light on spoilers, lots of mystery perfect. This is the REAL next great epic in the sci if genre

Finally watched it. The visuals look great. The setting is definitely super interesting. But I really hope the entire suggestion that this is going to turn out to be a Xenomorph origin story after all is a bait and switch. I don't really think I'm all that interested in there being a canon "origin story" for an entire species of aliens which has been popularized in our modern pop culture without the need for one previously.

I'll be fine if Xenomorphs are just a natural part of the story. But I don't want to know "the shocking secret of how they were created" or whatever, if that makes sense.

It was aliens. Aliens made the aliens but it turns out we're the aliens.

It's glorious!

Slightly concerned they might have shown a couple of major plot points in that trailer, but I suppose it's nothing you wouldn't already know from Alien.

What a motherfucking trailer. This looks visually stunning. The draw distance in a lot of these shots is jaw dropping, gorgeous. Also, dat class.

2nd most hyped movie of the year.

I don't know..

How many people want it to be associated with Alien? And how many want it stand alone? I'm not sure what id like.

I don't want this to be associated with Alien. Should be a standalone. Would be really boring if what we got was another Xenomorph hunt on a spaceship. It should be bigger, addressing important the question of what would happen if we, as a human species, would encounter another intelligent species.

So much sucky things are associated with Alien (read: anything in any media after Aliens). If Prometheus is good, we could just try to forget all that other stuff exists.

This looks amazing, but.

As someone who loves the crap out of the ME universe, why can't we get this sort of budget, directing and writing into a video game movie? Boo.
