ok, question time for everyone. How many jobs have you been in since you were legally able to work?

Phew, lemme see. Homebase, Cycle mechanic, cycle mechanic, cycle mechanic, waiter, drivers mate, mortgage adviser, property valuation adviser, team leader for call centre, IT support, IT support, Network Admin, a handful of contracting and finally, my current role which is a sort of 'jack of all trades' IT guy.

About 16-17 jobs (I've skipped a couple intentionally). I chop & change a lot. Being a waiter was the best.

Man Brummies get no love. Protip, the stereotypical brummie accent is not from Birmingham but Dudley and the Black Country. I know very few people who sound like that.

Dont they have a crazy ethnic War going on there? Im surprised you survived 3 years there.

I've lived here all my 31 years. Don't believe the hype :p

I left college at 18, spent one year fucking around and working part time at a bar. Spent the subsequent 12 years (to now) at one small company going from Junior > Office Admin > Design Engineer > Lead Design.

Write covering letters while it's dark, go outside and play. Because when you have a job, you can never go out and play. Sun at work SUCKS.

Oh shit, son! What's that you got there? A phone call from the HR department of the company you just did work experience with? Well what the hell did they want? To offer you another five day's placement next week, you say? Ballin'.

... wait, there's more? It's not just a placement, but more an extended job interview to see if you're suitable to do an eight-week contract with them as a Production Assistant? Well, tits-on-a-stick, you best get shining them shoes and combing that hair!

It is very much a cider in the sunshine day, I agree!

Guess the dynamic of tomorrow's Jobcentre "follow up" session just changed. I'm going to have to ask them to not require me to come in next week so they can't fuck this up for me.

I it sexist to say that I enjoy the sunny weather because girls begin to wear less clothes?

Yes, you are a bad person.

It seems there is a new dress in style this season - very long (so long that the three girls I've seen with them on have to hold them up), made out of some light cotton, usually white with thick coloured bands. And so far, the girls I've seen with them on are of the big ass/big boobs variety and they look fucking AMAZING. Shit be wobbling all over the place.

Godamn I love summer.

Apologies to UKFemGAF for being a scumbag...

Absolutely not.

Now, had the statement been "because girls should wear less clothes", then you might have had problems!

I personally like clothes on a woman, though. But I'm generally weird. I prefer one-piece ladies swimsuits to bikinis. Just something about them I find sexy.

Fucking awesome stuff mate!

I hope it works out for you, you never know it could lead to a permanent job for you after the 8 week temp job. Make the most of the opportunity and don't let yourself get sidetracked by social shit.

for real? elaborate.

The average of good looking people goes up in the winter, a 10/10 in summer will still be a 10/10 in winter but a 6/10 in summer can use clothes and stuff to go up to an 8/10. The lack of clothes in the summer can also result in seeing things you might not want to see.

I've thought this through.

Saw a girl with American flag short shorts on the other day and, well, there's no other way I could possibly express myself than this:

Social shit and networking is important, bro! Between an A+ candidate they think is boring and an A- candidate everyone loves to be around, the A- person will get the job every single time.

But I get your point! Thanks for the kind words.

Another hot day in Glasgow. It's starting to cool down and I'm going a bit pink so I decided to call it a day there. Hope this keeps up. Reading outside is the best.

I'm not saying don't network, that is of course a vital part of any successful career, all I was pointing out is that if a friend says "lets go get lashered" on a Tuesday, the answer I would look for in that situation is no...

All my friends moved away from Plymouth anyway! My best friend is moving in three weeks time and then I'll be all by myself.

I really want out of Plymouth right now but then BAM job opportunity. Once I have money I'll go out and make some new friends by joining a club or something. Just not get sloshed with them.

Hmm, left school in '95, college ion 96 or 97.

Temp work picking and packing in factories (worst was a sausage factory) 96

Shelf stacker, Co-op (was a good laugh, left under a bit of a cloud. Little did I know then that this would be a recurring theme
KuGsj.gif
)97 - 99

Pest control, pest controller. Was an ok job if you didn't mind stamping on mice and bashing rats heads in. 99

Different pest control firm, 3 months in 2000, they were complete cowboys and wankers so I told the manager what I thought of him.

Roofers labourer, 2000 was a nice job in the Summer but the roofer I worked with was an unreliable cokehead and often wouldn't turn up to pick me up, meaning I didn't get paid as it was cash in hand. Was in pretty good shape from all the ladder climbing and lead carrying.

Another pest control firm, 2000 I had one last go at trying to fool myself into thinking it was an ok job. Manager there was a prick, told him what I thought of him and left.

Pub sign hanger for a company that produced the signs for many large pub chains in the UK. 2000 until Feb 2001.

Talent agency, accounts assistant 2001 - 2004. Killed any interest I had in film and theatre for quite some time. Left after a big bust up with my manager.

Current company

2004 to date although am in my fourth different role, I think. The pay's alright but I'm bored shitless and came quite close to knocking someone out before Christmas, hence why I'll be leaving soon, once I've finished this electrician course I'm doing.

I can't fucking wait!

There were a couple of other labourer type ones but can't exactly remember when.

Predictably, my parents found a way to spin my potential job offer into a negative. Fucking sick of this. Need to move out asap.

What the fuck did they say!?! It's only temporary? Versus unemployment?!?

Seriously, wait until you do the job and hopefully make it permanent, then tell them to bugger off. You don't want to move out when you get your first job, a friend of mine did that, got sacked and ended up having to either fall into the benefits trap or move home. He decided to move home and the shit he got from his parents about being a failure was unbearable after that...

It amounted to a "well done but why didn't you get off your ass and do something like this years ago?" Basically broke down my success into a failure-by-lateness. Fuck 'em. Such a toxic environment they create.

Whenever I look at something short-term like bar work they just go "well that isn't very career orientated, is it? Do you want to just stay who you are?" and if I look at career-style stuff it's just reinforcement about how behind I am, like life is some race with an end goal.

All parents like to turn things into a negative it seems - my father was exactly the same the other day when I told him I'd got a job at Odeon to support myself during my degree so I can live away from home.

Good lord, today was a beautiful, totally unproductive day. Sat in the quad at uni with a bunch of mates, had some beers, good banter and a few smokes. Went to the library, sat down, then pretty much said 'fuck this' and went to bask in the sun.

So, only got some major deadlines on thurs and fri, but should be good for them. Well, if this weather stays like this, I won't be hahah.

But after next month, I'm done with uni. Then the job hunt begins. :(
