That borderline, huh?

What happened to all the cute gifs!
There seemed to be a noticeable shortage later on from people reviewing this show.

Probably because mods asked us to cut down on the gifs.
Which I can understand.
But the show maintains cuteness throughout so it's doubtful that people couldn't find something adorable to gif capture.

I believe I have Vandread, but never got around to it, and I'm honestly not even sure what Nadesico or the Captain Tylor ones are, but I'll check up on them. I have watched some of Desert Punk, and it was enjoyable, but didn't really hook me. I can always give it another try on Netflix.

I think my issue with Vandred was that it looked like a harem anime, albeit in space. Not a huge fan of the harem genre of anime.

that's all you have to say. Watch these as soon as you can. As in sacrifice watching other things for now and start these immediately. I am very certain you will enjoy them immensely. Especially Nadesico.
In fact, here is the OP to Nadesico becaise I just want another excuse to post this god tier opening.

My absolute favorites: Cowboy Bebop, Planetes, Eureka 7, Last Exile. Other ones I enjoyed, no particular order: Samurai Champloo, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Code Geass, FMP, Gundam MS 008th Squad, FMA: Brotherhood, Eden of the East, Lupin, Shin Chan(does that count?). There's probably a lot I'm forgetting right now. I've watched nearly everything on Netflix to some degree. You may notice I trend towards things I can watch dubbed, as I'm usually too busy to watch/acquire subs. I'll still go out of my way for a really good subbed anime though.

Let me offer up a starter pack of personal favorites I would recommend to anyone looking for top-notch anime:

TV:
Dennou Coil
Haibane Renmei
Mononoke
Mushishi
Trapeze/Kuuchuu Buranko

Movies:
Dirty Pair: Project Eden
Gauche the Cellist
Millennium Actress
Tokyo Godfathers
Whisper of the Heart

Also check out this thread for older anime and this thread for newer anime. Hope this helps!

Sorry guys! I'm just a casual anime watcher, only really catch a few series/movies a year, but I don't think anything will ever be as great as CB, the one that popped my cherry.

Honestly, I check out the OP every season, but it's usually so.. dense, that it feels overwhelming. Ever consider a section that puts forward the more anime-newbie friendly series? I.e. nothing that has previous seasons, or relies too heavily on anime tropes and in-jokes.

Based on your avatar, you should check out Panty and Stocking. Also Tiger and Bunny. Both anime casual friendly.

Yes. It is that borderline.

Don't get me wrong, I love this show and all of it's cuteness, but I've been labeled as an image spammer before, and last time duck edited my post and told me to cut it out. So I don't post images anymore.

aww :(

But spamming cute pics is a delightful past time.
I can see how it might get a bit excessive at times.

Image spamming has been a noticeable problem lately. Some have been the biggest offenders.

Ive been limiting it to maybe one picture, like when I talk about Mahoraba or Magikano for example, to show what I am talking about (and as an excuse to post something cute of course)

I hope I'm not one of them. I have a 2 pic per episode/film rule for my anime posts, with the occasional gif response.

If I am being an image nuisance, I'd like to be made aware.

Ok, this seems to have mecha, which may be enough to counteract the harem vibe. I do like mecha.

Love Tiger and Bunny. I'll check out Panty and Stocking.

Of that list, I would personally recommend: Dennou Coil, Haibane Renmei and Mushishi.
All theree of them are artistically interesting, and thought provoking shows. Haibane Renmei is my top favorite anime actually. Dennoi Coil has more of a sci-fi bend to it but more in a lsice of life kind of way. Mushishi is a very naturalistic sort of show about spiritual creatures called the Mushi and how they affect the lives of people and things.

Of the movies: Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers were by Satoshi Kon and they do an excellent job of mixing fantasy and illusion with reality. Tokyo godfathers plays more to a story though than Satoshi Kon's other works, which include Perfect BLue and Paprika and the TV series Paranoia Agent. He has a really interesting theme to all his shows.

Whisper of the Heart is a great Ghibli movie so I definitely recommend that as well from that list.

No it's not you. ^^ Usually I don't either, but when I do there's usually 5+ images. I did one Ano Natsu episode (Episode 6 IIRC) where I had a bunch of images. After that I was asked to cut back. But if I can only do one or two pics I just can't decide which, so I chose none. It's just easier that way.

Then I quoted a ton of Palutena gifs all at once and it was annoying.

I have no medium volume. I'm either loud and proud or virtually non-existent.

Animated gifs are fun I just think we have to be restrained when using them so as not to anger the gods.
The same goes for cute pictures, which I certainly wont stop posting altogether.
The key, as in all things, is moderation. I'm pretty sure they don't want these things cut out altogether. Well maybe some do :p

You'll never be non-existent to me, Nichibrethren!

Nichijou bros! :D

Welcome, Nakama.

Ano Natsu 12
Seems like everybody else that posted on this were really happy with it, but I was actually a little disappointed.
Basically my problem is, I was left emotionally flat by the sequence of "Fight" -> Lose fight -> Oh btw they won sometime later off-screen.
We don't get any sense of anybody accomplishing anything to cause that. Did finding the lake help at all? Did Kaito's declaration that he'd go after Ichika mean anything? More importantly, regardless of how she came back, they didn't show us the tear-filled reunion scene. So it's running along in bittersweet mode then suddenly ends with the postscript "ok stop feeling sad now," but without us getting to see the characters' reactions. It left me a little empty.

That said, I don't think the ending is too important. For me this show was all about a parade of overheard dramatic love confessions and it did a great job with that.

As for it actually being in the same storyline as Onegai Teacher, I don't think that's intended to be the case. Obviously it has a lot of call-outs to it, including using Inoue Kikuko for the "mysterious voice" at the lake, which will get people talking about the possibility, but it doesn't really make sense time-wise with the memory imprint thing.

I think it's because they set up the fact that
they would be separated throughout the entire series. Reaching the lake was little more than coming to the realization that they'll have to be separated and that they'll always have the memories - which is why that "recording" plays after all. The post-script was just a way to payoff the inevitable - and I suppose is also an homage/reference to Onegai Sensei.

I think the ending relies a lot on form anyhow.

I can definitely see where you're coming from on that, and usually it does irk me when its done that way but in Ano Natsu it didn't because of the quote below and what I write after it. ^^;

I think it's because they set up the fact that
they would be separated throughout the entire series. Reaching the lake was little more than coming to the realization that they'll have to be separated and that they'll always have the memories - which is why that "recording" plays after all. I would also add that the central theme of Ano Natsu was
creating memories and living in the moment, rather than having some vague end goal. For example, Kaito wanted to make a movie but not because he had an idea or a story he wanted to tell. He just wanted to do something that involved the now, rather than the later. The movie was just a way to create some great memories that he'll always cherish, the place Ichika was looking for was just her excuse to travel (though it did exist). As Kaito and Ichika fall in love they both become better people because they both now have a very real purpose rather than some vague something-or-other they want to do/find. Kaito in particular really grew and by the end was fighting with all of his strength just to tell her how much he loves her and that she should never regret their time together, because he certainly doesn't. I would have been happy with the ending even if they'd never gotten together again (though the coy way they snuck it in at the end was nicely handled with the souvenir) because it went with the purpose of the show. The memories they made that summer, while tinged with sadness as Kaito and Kanna cried watching the movie, ultimately made them better, stronger people.

Though the one thing in the end that DID disappoint me was Tetsuro suddenly being all wishy-washy. The end of Episode 11 totally made it seem like he was going to take Mio up on her advances, and suddenly he's not ready to commit. Fuck, even Kanna is telling him to take her for Belldandy's sake! >>

But that minor gripe aside, I fucking LOVED Ano Natsu de Matteru! ^_^

There's also the fact that Kaito has already moved on from
the death of his parents
, so even with that character plot point, they set up the ending.

I think he's going at his own pace with his relationship with Mio. It's not easy to get over a childhood love.

That said, it would've been nice of them to show more of their relationship :+

Milky Holmes S1 5

Mary and Kate's shoujo melodrama made this episode continually hilarious. While there were a couple moments of awkward animation, the action parts were generally well done and exciting.

But as always the real star is Twenty, who takes narcissism to new heights by making out with a body pillow of himself.

It just has crappy voice acting, I'm afraid.
I haven't watched Korra yet, but really? I find that hard to believe given the quality of the voice acting in the original series.

Looking at the pantsu argument, I can't believe someone called Jexhius a prude. -_-

That's true, and I can definitely understand that. I only felt that way because
he asked her to a movie at the end of 11. If he hadn't done that I wouldn't have been disappointed because beyond that he never showed any real signs of moving her way either.

EXCELLENT PICKUPS. All of that is in my collection as well and it will never ever leave it.
You can look forward to many hours of enjoyment with these. Absolutely cannot go wrong.

Nozomi is such a classy company; they consistently have the best packaging in the business. I just picked up Irresponsible Captain Tylor and Emma: A Victorian Romance from their sale myself.

Bros forever.

Nozomi is pretty awesome, but I think they are pretty much owned by Rightstuf isn't that correct? They also licensed Sora no Woto and released a pretty nice set as well. Aria too.

What's with all the love I'm feeling here? This ain't the pony thread!

Karasawa sucks Hidenori forever?

Also, is it just me or did they actually give a name to Tadakuni's sister in Episode 7? It was when they were talking to Hidenori's brother and they referred to Tadakuni's sis as "Mei".

Inu x Boku END

Okay, they confessed finally. I'm glad they're together, but what about her fiance? Did I read that situation wrong that it was an important arranged marriage?

What about all the other sub-plots? Banri and Karuta?

This show was not entirely what I expected.
