I'd probably be more nostalgiac if I hadn't rewatched DBZ, Gundam Wing, etc. long after they'd aired on Toonami, but it was sooooo nice hearing Steve Blum's voice again.
It's more to do with the delivering wrapping than it is with the shows themselves. I don't care if Gurren-Lagann, Durarara, or some other modern shows were subbed in instead, so long as the selection was well-curated and fit an overarching message that is now largely missing from children's programming.
By the way, way to imply that anybody with nostalgia had a shitty childhood. Great job.
Oreimo OT has over 1400 posts for a show that is awful lol.
Madoka OT has a lot of posts too, it's still awful.
The nostalgia factor is one thing, but it would be interesting to see them begin to show more recent shows.

I wasn't aware that the number posts in an OT was a metric for a show's quality.
Toonami opened my eyes.
It felt like a significant step up from watching stuff like Cow & Chicken, Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo etc to stuff like DBZ, Teknoman, Tench Muyo, Cowboy Bebop etc.
Sadly my parents were potato couch guardians of the TV so I only had anime crumbs every now and then when I was little. ;_; Watching Tenchi and Bebop now would be like watching them for the first time, much like Cardcaptors and Sailormoon.
Would that be the thing that gets people in this thread watching stuff like Toriko? How many people here interested in Toonami would stick with it when the scheduling block looks more like that?
To be honest, I don't think Toonami would appeal to most of us past the nostalgia factor. I was thinking more in terms of bringing in a whole new audience. I don't really know how the next generation of American kids get exposed to anime.

I didn't catch it outside of youtube videos, but that alone was enough to get me nostalgiaing hard.
And Pokemon.
Though I can't imagine that it still gets as many kids into anime now as it did in the 90s.

Thought it was amusing. I did laugh at that ME3 crack at one of the commercials and it was good for a nostalgia blast.
Guilty to that. It is probably more likely now that the anime actually ended that increases my willingness to watch it someday.
The sun isn't quite shining as brightly today as it was yesterday. The only connection I can make is Toonami being gone again.
My nostalgia of toonami isn’t really anime related cause I had already seen most of the animes on toonami to death long before the channel had come out, the ones I haven’t weren’t any good like (gundam wing,tenchi muyo ),the enjoyable ones I haven’t seen like pokemon,beyblade , yugi-oh,cowboy bebop,digimon were on other channels.
I mostly loved toonami for stuff like samura jack, but I do think toonami died at the right time and should never come back , anime is near complete filth in its current state and should never be allowed to infect anymore innocent people.

I don't really get that, it's pretty weird. I can only hope the show doesn't collapse under the weight of two dangerous tropes:
'the younger brother does better than the older one' and the extremely dangerous 'chase your dream'.

This is the first time I've watched any dubbed Bleach in years, and Muramasa's dub voice was terrible beyond my wildest expectations. I can't believe they're even bothering to dub the Zanpakuto Unknown Tales arc.

Toonami wasn't as relevant in Mexico because most of the shows they aired were re-runs of stuff we had already seen on public telly. So meh.

Yep, pretty much how I felt after watching it. It's for the 15th anniversary or something (there's also a live-action movie coming out this year too), but it still feels completely redundant, the changes they made were completely pointless, etc. Quick, let's remove a whole bunch of plot because we can't fit it into a 45 minute OVA, but let's add a
softcore sex scene with Shishio and Yumi lulz

This is clearly true, it obviously connected with a specific generation of fans.
Personally, I saw very little anime on television as I was growing up, or at least nothing that I consciously identified as anime. This is why I didn't get into anime until relatively recently.

Just as good as I hoped it would be. LIttle touches like Zidane help make it feel really grounded and more real than you usually find in anime. Since it's fifty episodes, it isn't going to be particularly fast paced, but it succeeded in keeping my interest.
