I'm hopefully picking up a Samsung Galaxy Note from newegg.ca once I can save up some money. I have a few questions though...
-Does the amazon app store work in Canada. I need my Plants vs. Zombies fix or I'll explode.
-Does the Google app store allow payment with Visa prepaid gift cards? I don't have a credit card (nor do I intent to) and I might end up getting an iOS device if I have no method of getting paid apps on android.

When they went from SwiftKey (1.x) to SwiftKey X (2.x), it was free, so i don't see why SwiftKey 3 would be any different.
How could someone like me buy apps then? Does it support paypal at all?
EDIT: I just googled a little more into it and apparently it does support gift cards. Dunno what you're talking about. :/
I am speaking from experience, I tried using a gift card as a payment method, when it got to checkout it was greyed out.
I dont know how they would even know its a gift card. When I use prepaid Visa cards I enter it just like a regular credit card and just don't overcharge it.
Did you sign your gift card up online? If you don't they usually don't work, as most app stores require location + basic personal information connected to the card or they'll automatically reject them.
Lol, I typed out a whole long post, but its late so Im just going to disagree. Thats not even close to Androids main problem. And the masses indifference towards the skins the HW manufacturers use is one of the things thats let the OS thrive in the market. If all those people buying these phones suddenly had refined taste and only wanted pure Android releases, this OS would spiral into chaos overnight in a bad way.
"Case Mate Barely There" is my favourite. Don't like big ass cases and case mates are always really thin. I'm rolling naked atm but only because my Desire HD has scratches and marks all over (dropped it really hard one time without my case on concrete and since then decided to not sell it anymore).
But my next phone (S3/One X) will get a case mate asap.
This. The girls i see every day in the train and metro rocking there Sensation XL's, GS2's, Xperias etc. don't have a clue what "vanilla android" is. Not every 500€ smartphone user is frequently visiting Engadget and other tech sites. Carriers throwing smartphones out for 1€ - 100€ helps alot
So I just read this. It's quite sad really but he's being such a big baby about it.
He's basically expecting people to pay $4 for an app which he himself admits isn't finished and just released quickly to try and have an impact before Readability. He's saying it's a failure because he won't make the 30k worth of time invested in the app when he just gave up on it immediately.
If he admits that there's revenue in an Ad-supported version then why not release one anyway? People are more bound to eventually purchase the full version if they start liking the lite version, and it will give him some revenue to justify implementing a couple of new features to make the paid version more worthwhile.
If people are saying that $4 is too much for an unfinished (yet polished app), which I think is the case, then why not lower it to $1 and at least not get a huge refund percentage? He just blames "Android users don't want to spend" and while that may be true in his particular case it's more like "Users don't want to risk investing in an unfinished app, especially after he's declared it dead."
It's his fault. He made a beautiful, beautiful app and he got excellent media coverage from it yet he ruined it with greediness, a bad marketing strategy and a lack of commitment.
Looking foward to your "not-a-tech-blogger" impressions of the One X.

Packaging is nice, not the traditional rectangular box. Phone is light. Lighter than my Desire, for certain. Needs a full charge before use, apparently, so it's plugged in now - with the battery life on HTC devices I'm doing nothing to fuck with the lifespan of this one.

Been offered £130 for the S or £200 for the X on my upgrade.
I can do £200. I think. Oh I can treat myself, surely. For a nice screen. But £70 is a big difference. And I'm not sure I need the difference. But I'd quite like it.

I have an LG G2x (T-Mobile). Over the last two days, it's been hemorrhaging battery (like, from 100% charge at 6am to essentially 0% by noon). Prior to yesterday, battery life has been consistently good (this is a sudden issue). The phone is also warm to the touch, similar to the feel when I have wifi tethering on. Wifi is off, GPS is on.
I've tried multiple restarts and Advanced Task Killer (there don't seem to be any suspicious apps running in Task Killer's list).
I think this generally began about when I downloaded Instagram, but that could just be coincidence.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just updated a handful of apps, including gmail, google maps, and instagram. There aren't any system updates available.
instagram has no notifications so i wouldn't even assume its running most of the time... weird. Try killing instagram for a day
Task Killer does not show that instagram is running...

You can cut it down pretty easily. Google some instructions.

Worse than that - I'm working until half five, then I have to drive to the other end of the country, and then I can start sorting it out. Went with black, because everyone else wants white (and white phones look like eminently stealable iPhones to some people...)

Take pics of if you can cause no one's given much loving to the black one. Haven't seen many photos. Make sure to instagram them, otherwise they'll be unartistic.

Went back to store and they did it but the sim still doesnt work. Phone wont recognise it and now there saying I gotta wait till tomorrow for them to do a sim swap as it must be faulty. Fuming!!!

Don't know why it would suddenly be a problem. Maybe the network is having issues and it's constantly searching for 4G service? Try turning 4G off for a day or something and see how it helps. Also, I recommend you install BetterBatteryStats and watch the processes. Free for XDA members
