Alright, my thoughts after I calmed down a bit:

A large part of me thinks that info is all true. Then again, we have 2 guys with major influence on this game that regularly post here. Both Frankie and David know that this is the exact opposite of what we want from Halo. Making design decisions like that after hearing from a hardcore community like this just doesn't add up.

We'll see in due time I guess. But geez, I hope all of that info is false.

But, you also have to consider there's a huge amount of people who play CoD that these kind of "innovations" would appeal to. And they outnumber us hardcore Halo fans. And have more money.

I don't know, I think it's too different from COD for the COD fans to like it as there will still be halo like when it comes to shooting/shield mechanics it seems and it's too different for halo fans to enjoy so I'm not really sure what they're going for.

I'll give you that. Ugh, the worst universal truth in games.

Still, if these statements are true and exist in most playlists, I don't understand how Frankie or David could post here in good conscience knowing that these features exist. That one thing is what's keeping my hopes up.

Im trying. Not gonna lie, at lot of this stuff is worrying, but I'm just gonna take it for what it is and move on from there. I will be pissed if we can spawn with weapons such as Snipers, Shotguns, Rockets, etc.

That said, a lot of it is exciting at the same time. Btw, has anyone summed up some if the information from the scans that wasn't posted in the initial summary? Im trying to compile everything we know.

This is all I can recall at the moment:

In the beginning, Cortana wakes up Chief because there is an intruder in the FUD

AR/BR/DMR/Magnum/Covenant Carbine/Plasma Pistol/Shotgun/Sniper Rifle/something called an Assault Carbine are all confirmed

edit: Forgot, I believe weapons themselves are customizable through unlocks as well.

Frankie squashed the random spawn timer rumor, not random spawn locations. If I remember correctly.

Also: where did the rumor about random weapon timers/spawns come from in the first place? They definitely came out some time around the Making Halo 4 trailer.

Sprint

-So not only is sprint in the game, but it is a standard armor ability. You do not need to pick it up, it will always be available. You do not need to buy it with your Spartan Points, you will always have it equipped no matter what. So essentially, you can have two armor abilities.

That rumor, as well as the rumor about perks, came from some journalists' first impressions at the spring showcase.

We all thought they were just exaggerating for hits...

Go into Arena. Map choices: Sword Base or Boardwalk.

I wish there was a third option. Suicide.

There should always be a 3rd option. I don't even know why MLG decided to tell 343 that for MLG v7 there should only be 2 options. Pretty dumb if you ask me.

Also, I played more games on Beaver Creek in the past few days and I'm really, really starting to like it. It's growing on me big time. I played with a party of 4 against a party of 4, Beaver Creek King MLG v7 and we made a huge comeback in last minute and it was epic! It was really great.

The Red base having an advantage over Blue base is really big man. However, I think that as time goes on we're going to see very inventive break up strategies. I'm curious to see how that map evolves over time.

I only got to see 5-6 pages, and one of them had portions whited out. Is the full 14 page spread out there?

Nah, that's the only one. Which I find weird by the way.

It's stupid how the uploader whited some portions out. For what purpose? And why only scan 5 pages?? Ugh, I just don't understand.

Well at least in MLG you can vote none of the above forever. In Arena, there is two options and no none of the above option.

Yeah the absurdity of all these design decisions after all the hate for similar decisions they've had to read for a couple of years now just doesn't make sense. Plus Frank knows the community well and seems very confident that we will be ok with all of this after we get a proper in-depth explanation? Most anticipated sparkast ever.

Nice stream Juice, will watch for a while.

I'm very pleased with the inclusion of join in progress (if it's optional). Will be nice to have people enter my game when we're one man short after some douchebag quits 3 seconds in, or having the option to just jump really fast into a match without waiting much.

Random Weapon Drops sounds like a really bad idea.

No FF mode seems like an odd omission.

No Respawn Delay could also turn out bad.

Regicide sounds like a bad gametype.

I'll join you when your bk randoms quit out!

Pretty much kills objective gametypes, especially 4v4.

"I cleared the base! Capture the flag, go go go"
"Oh fuck they're all right there again. Pretty sure a rocket launcher got dropped in over there too"

All I know is that this is 343i's vision for Halo. So with that said, bring on the H4 demo! WOO

Please let there be a demo.

What if power weapons do remain on the map like in previous Halo titles with the occasional random weapon drops to mix things up. This is what I imagine is happening, but time will tell.

There's really no "could" to that one, it's horrible. I have to believe there will be a timer in objective, it would be the most god awful experience if there isn't. It still sucks for Slayer, in a game where you're dealing with recharging shields, I don't know how you're supposed to survive when a guy that you kill can instantly respawn and go right back to where you were.

Halo has horrible spawns as it is, and they're only going to get worse when people can immediately drop back into the action. CoD has horrific spawns for this very reason, it makes map control a complete after thought.

Also, with such sweeping changes to the formula, the lack of a beta is disturbing.

That's stupid. In MLG you can vote for None of the Above only twice. Much better but not ideal.

Didn't know it was twice. Just saw it more than once and assumed it was forever.

Also, how do you play Anniversary maps in MLG. Blood magic? Do tell.

Going by the COD standard, they have instant respawns in deathmatch, but not in objective. Clearly they couldn't make a mistake that big could they...oh well there is random weapon spawn locations, so yeah they probably could.

If you play with people who have the maps they come up often enough. I'm very pleased with it.

Yeah I think this is key. We'll just have to wait and hear. It's obviously going to have its own identity (Halo 4), but they wouldn't spend the last year or so adjusting Reach, doing the Abnversary stuff, and trying to gather feedback and calm fears just to turn around and do the opposite.

For DI/DO to work, I don't think you can choose off/on. Does CoD allow this?

Been a while since I've played CoD anything, but I'm fairly certain only a couple of the playlists have actual respawn timers. I know one of them was the bomb planting mode, and it always had the lowest population. I know Domination doesn't have one & and I'm pretty certain CTF didn't either.

People will always flock to the playlists with instant respawns. Even if the game does ship with a classic playlist, it'll have about a 500 player population and probably be axed half way in, lol.

I know how vicious the internets can be, especially GAF. If all this is true and "Classic Halo" is supported as well in 4 as it was in Reach, I'd watch my back if I was Frankie or David, lol.

This information really killed the mood around here, didn't it? =(

Anyways, hopefully more people will get the magazine tomorrow so we can get the bigger picture. Also, I can't wait to hear the SP details!

If that info is legit, 343 is on track to make the most successful Halo title yet. Take what makes COD popular while providing playlists for the vocal minorities. Glad to hear it. Can't wait to play it.

Alright time to give a bit of my thoughts. Realize that until we find out more, and magazines are outlawed as a form to give people news about video games, the opinions here will probably change. This is just a gut impression based on the news today. I'll just cover the bullet points from the write up and a couple of other miscellaneous comments.

-The screens look visually great. I don't know how 343 is doing this on 360 hardware, but it is seriously impressive.
-The DMR looks ugly as shit lol. Not a big deal though.
-As for custom loadouts and choosing starting weapons, it was said in the last preview and now it looks like it's confirmed. Assuming we stick to "starting weapons" being available to choose from, I actually think this is a good change, and gets rid of the awful AR vs. BR/DMR start fragmentation both from a playlist management perspective and a weapon sandbox balance perspective.

Now for the bullet points of the write up:
Spartan Points- credits/xp. Nothing to really write about here.

Spartan Ops- Sounds cool. Several HaloGAFers, including myself, have wished for an objective and/or mission based coop mode. This looks to be it.

Why Reds Fight Blues- No surprise here, I believe I said this was probably why they fight the day of the vidoc.

Sprint- Not surprised. This seemed to be evident from the previous footage. I would rather not have sprint at all, but if we are going to have it, being a native ability is probably the best way to do it. As long as the base speed and movement options are still good by default, sprint won't be a huge detriment to gameplay.

Forerunner Vision- Sounds terrible. Moving on.

Returning Armor Abilities- Not surpised on Hologram and Jetpack (hopefully functions a bit differently than Reach), but Active Camo as a starting ability is ugh.

Elites Not Returning to Multiplayer- Good for general gamemodes, as it is in Reach. Does this confirm no Invasion-type gamemode?

Firefight- This was a surprise. I'm happy about the new mission coop modes, but I did not expect traditional Firefight to not make a return.

No More Weapon Camping- This is where we get into the seriously WTF are you doing section. This is just a plain and simple terrible design decision. There isn't much else to say.

No More Respawn Delay- Also awful.

Joining In-Progress Games- Not really surprised, but not excited for this feature.

Of course, this is all just based on the limited info we got today and is subject to change with new info/clarifications from 343. Magazines are awful.

I get Battle Creek KOTH on there often. Extremely fun if the teams are somewhat balanced.

I have no idea how you guys get DLC in this game. It's doesn't exist.

CTF definitely have respawn timers, Domination may not. (King has the same respawn timers as Slayer does in Halo, so that's a parallel.)

That's just the thing, if this stuff is true, I don't think Halo 4 will be very successful. Look what Bungie did with Reach, they stepped out of Halo's traditional boundaries, and from what I've been told/seen for myself, Halo 3 had a much higher population than Reach did/does.
Another facet of Reach to look at: it tried to satisfy hardcore and casual players, and in the end, the hardcore got shafted.

Ahh, I need that podcast soon. Or at least the actual copy of Game Informer. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

I'm actually really interested in what they have to show for SP and the spartan ops stuff. It seems like spartan ops has a lot of potential to be a lot of fun considering it sounds like there would be a lot of continuing content for it.

Man, overreactions everywhere.

I still think the issue with Reach that caused most people's frustrations is player movement and shooting. Both are fixed in 4 so I don't think everything else will be nearly as annoying.

Above all else, I think CoD is popular because of its kill times. Literally anyone can get on a hot streak in the game given the right set of circumstances and spawns. This is still gonna be a Halo game where you need to shoot a guy 4-5 times to kill him, I don't see it drawing in the CoD crowd just because it implements a couple of its terrible "features".

The more I think about it, the less awful the whole "random weapon spawns" idea sounds. The info describes the weapons dropping to the ground in drop pods, which makes me think of FF with the whole drop pod thing it does. If it's done like the drop pods in FF, it might not be so bad. Maybe. I am still 100% against the idea of buying armor abilities, though. Get that shit outta here, this isn't Black Ops.

Nope. Leave that kind of stuff to gimmicky, "fun" gametypes.

It dilutes the player's control of the game, which is nearly always a bad thing.
