What are the odds it comes pre-installed on the system? Probably nil, but it'd be nice to have an SMB game as a pack-in again.

EAD Tokyo needs a break if its making the game. That would make it three Mario games it has developed and released in the last 3 years on 3 different platforms. Well, it may not be ready for 2012 like how Mario Galaxy came out a year later.
EAD Tokyo team 2 (under Koichi Hayashida) developed SMG2 and 3D Land. Team 1 (under Yoshiaki Koizumi) hasn't put out a game since the first SMG.

Mods, please change thread title to something like "Nintendo confirms new Mario game for Wii U - reveal at E3".

It's NOT a "New Super Mario Bros."

Nintendo have really been pumping out the Mario platformers the last few years.

It cool and all, but I hope this isn't their E3 trump card. I really want to see the next Smash Bros.

a new Super Mario Bros, or a New Super Mario Bros?

The article itself doesn't say New Super Mario Bros., but since they showed off the prototype at E3 last year and the unlikelihood of EAD Tokyo having a full-fledged 3D Mario title out for the launch, I'd have to think that a 2D Mario is more likely than it is not.

I hope they get rid of the Mii's. They already promised a 2D Mario for 3DS this holiday season. I wonder if the Wii U/3DS version will have some sort of compatability like Capcom hinted with SSF4 and Sakurai hinted with SSB. Or maybe the other EAD Tokyo team(there's one that worked on 3D Land and then another that finished SMG2 in 2010) has something ready to show off but I think it might still be a little early.

It's weird that Miyamoto specifically mentions Pikmin "which will take advantage of the new HD screen resolution". It almost sounds as if he's saying some games won't.

The burning question is: 2D or 3D?

It's probably going to be the same thing as what they showed at E3 last year. New Super Mario Bros Wii was the best selling Mario game of that generation, so it makes sense for them to make another.

Not to say I'm excited about that, I'd rather see a 3D Mario or something like Super Mario 3D Land.

Why couldnt EAD 1 have a game? They haven't really made anything since SMG1.
Not that I expect any Mario game at launch period.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

3DS will already get a new 2D Mario this year, i dont expect another on WiiU - especially since a 3D title would profit way more from the tablet controller.

3D Mario on home console for me.

It's probably going to be NSMB Mii.

Unless they don't want it to directly compete with the new 2D Mario on 3DS.

Hey look, it's Grymm taking things out of context again! It's been a while.

2D Mario at launch?

Capitalized thread title is a bit misleading. "a new SMB game" is not the same as "NSMB game". :)
Yeah, I entered expecting a New Super Mario Bros game. Luckily, it was not the case.
I hope it's a 3D Mario, there will be a new 2D Mario for 3DS at E3, so it would be great if we had both kinds of Mario. A 3D Mario would also be a great showcase of what the console can do.
I'm also interested in those "small but important projects for Wii U". I'm hoping to hear more on that matter!

Jumping into a Pipe which ends up in the controller will be glorious :)

Please be 2D! (Perhaps it's 3d on screen and 2d in pipes, that would be ace too)

If the game isn't NSMB branded, then people shouldn't judge before seeing it. Including if it's a 2D game. A 2D Mario game that doesn't follow the NSMB visual design is what everyone's been asking for I thought.

Also, "meh" at the "meh a Mario game" comments. Nintendo is not going to stop making Mario games. Get used to it.

Maybe NSMB on both the Wii U and 3DS? I honestly did not expect a new Mario game on the Wii U so soon. Sounds like this might be available at launch.

What if it's the same game on 3DS and WiiU?!?!?!

Bet you didn't think about that did ya?

Actually I was wrong EAD Tokyo #2 worked on SMG2, SM3DL, NPC: Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and Flipnote Studio. EAD Tokyo #1 has just some digital work since SMG.

Imagine if the Wii-U lineup consisted of Mario, Zelda, Smash, Pikmin, and F-Zero. That would be like the best conference ever ^_^

With the 3DS 2D Mario title in the works, and Nintendo's continued push to make 3D Mario games as relevant to the masses as 2D ones, this is almost definitely a 3D Mario game. Also, Nintendo always show off a 3D Mario when lifting the lid properly on a home console- Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy...

Might get it if they ditch the floaty controls.

Transfer Virtual Console games to Wii U for free or no sale. I MUST PRESERVE DEVIL'S CRUSH ON MY LAUNCH WII, NINTENDO. Pretty sure the number of VC games I own outweighs the cost of the Wii at this point.
