My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
What if the NFC functions works in reverse. Say, putting an NFC compatible phone on the tablet during Grand Theft Auto, you then get a call with a recording from a character with instructions about a bonus/secret mission.

Is something like this possible?

As much as I enjoy the leak, and a new Rayman. I'm more excited that they are adding online play to this bad boy. Really felt it was missing in the original!

Woke up to the Rayman leak and holy shit...I'm impressed. You guys don't know how relieving it was to see that. Ubisoft is going to get a lot of shit though and I hope that wasn't the only secret feature.

I'm in awe and amazement and I can't figure out how it works.

Holy shit at that trailer leaking.

- "Wii U" is confirmed it seems..
- One tablet? Maybe, maybe not: we don't know since when the game is in development and if they just wanted to use one. Note that the tablet is wired.
- Dat screen.

Yes. Skylanders already saves data to your figurines, I believe. It's two way.

You need to read more of the previous pages :p

Just about everything in that video other than the gameplay footage itself is still subject to change. That version of the trailer was clearly never intended for public release.

Dat screen, indeed. I've been pretty patient, but the urge to hold the controller hit its peak while I was watching that video. The urge.. it is rising..

Dem Nintendo figurines.
If there are Zelda figurines in the pipeline, I'm going to be bankrupt.

If Rayman Legends is a Wii U launch title, then I'm definitely sold on getting it day one.

HT, we're going to be happy men by the time E3 is over. :)

Why is somehow charging for figurines or whatever somehow better than all the dlc stuff people are always griping about?

just dont know why this is suddenly being treated in a positive light rather than as a cynical money grab like practically everything else.

Honestly, I think
1)So far it doesn't look to change the game in any meaningful way. So you can avoid these figures and still have a great experience.
2) Its tangible. I think folks are more willing to look past it when they do get a real world object as well.

Oh, it's definitely a money grab. I was just commenting that it is a damn good money grab, consumers everywhere will eat NFC figurines up. Personally, I won't care for it unless it opens up new implementations I don't have to pay for.

You are familiar with the concept of figure collections? Now you can collect them and unlock stuff. It's the perfect combination for a lot of collectors.

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
Oh shit I just remembered I'll be able to play Rayman in bed on my UPad like my 3DS/Vita.

This is really going to eat into my playtime on both.... Handheld gaming for the win!!!

Why's everyone so pissed off by 'one tablet'. We're in the age of online gaming, it's not like local multiplayer is void either...

It's a great compromise.

Yeesh, guys, yet another several hundred pages go by without any news or lea--

*actually reads thread*

Whoa, that trailer look really nice. Rayman Legends looks like it has a pretty insane level of polish, and the real world footage has just the right amount of derp to it. Are Rayman games always like this these days? I played one many years ago and for some reason didn't care for how it felt to play, but I'm willing to take a step back in if this is representative of how the series is treated by its developers.

…also, I think I've discovered I have a thing for girls with insanely over-the-top acting style.

Wow, I did not expect a leak like this prior to E3, the game looked great, and more than anything I'm just happy to see what looks like a strong 3rd party effort for the wii u. 2d gameplay to boot!

Because there are potential gameplay ideas* for which multiple tablets are really amazing.

* Linked example isn't that great, but you know what is for local multiplayer? Not having your health and ammo and other critical info displayed on the splitscreened TV when you're 4-way multiplaying, so you (A) don't give hints to your opponents about your status and (B) have more actual real estate available for your tiny quarter of the main screen.

I don't care what anyone says. Ubisoft is doing a good job with third party support.

Rayman Legends. Assassins Creed 3. Killer Freaks. Ghost Recon.

I like the fact they aren't giving us excuses for why they didn't put multiplatform games on Wii U like Tomb Raider and Crysis 3 and Kojima.

I said it when they unveiled that the Wii U pad would use NFC: It'd be a genius move if they sold eShop titles in stores as figurines that you could collect. As a collector, I'd rather have those than game cases with DVDs, and that's the only thing (besides crazy prices, and I bet that won't happen) that would make me fully embrace Digital Distribution outside Steam.

Why sell codes to the stores when you can give them figurines? They have no choice with the 3DS, but with Wii U they should do it.

My thoughts precisely. It would enhance offline multiplayer a lot for me.

Honestly, I still feel sour about Ubisoft considering their Wii support was abysmal aside from Red Steel 2.

Which are unfortunately, probably not counterbalancing the effort needed to make the Wii U stream to four separate controllers. I'd rather they focus on something else like making sure voice chat's ready from launch, amongst other features.

Dingdingdingding! When I'm done playing the game and I shelve it for X years until I play it again, I still could end-up with some sweet-looking figurines decorating the Nintendo Room. So sweet.

But if someone isn't a fan, I suppose I can see where they'd shrug at the value aspect.

(oh, and for GPW and IdeaMan: Krev came-up with an awesome idea for a game late last night, and I threw an idea or two in.. have y'all seen it yet? Really good stuff!)

We have mentioned it before but: From the Q&As, interviews, this trailer and so on, I get the feeling that the online capabilities and social features is going the be the big focus of Wii U. The pad is obviously perfect for any kind of social interaction, from text to video with everything in between. Iwata and others have frequently mentioned how important online will be. They have also hinted at unexpected third party alliances. This doesn't have to involve gaming companies. Some sort of facebook collaberation isn't unlikely, something similar to how spotify does it with music. See what your friends are playing, from your PC aswell as Wii U, jump in, or even try it out in a demo like fashion if you don't own the game. Seeing "Friend X is playing Pikmin 3" pop up on facebook is even great advertising.

I imagine they can use NFC figurines as your Mii, so basically any company could sell them without the need for games who could split the market.

But in the end, all I want is to be able to catch all pokemons, by buying (or trading) them, fully integrated with a main pokemon game. With online battling. This and TCG.

My wallet is crying already

If voice chat isn't a day one feature that would be sad considering their competitors had it at launch with the 360 and PS3. I don't think that should be a feature that would take up all their time. Also I think it's been said by GameplayWhore and someone else before, but essentially streaming to four separate controllers would have the same affect of splitscreen multiplayer on the tv, so I don't see how that should be a problem.

So four confirmed Ubisoft titles.

- Assassin's Creed III
- Killer Freaks from Outer Space
- Ghost Recon Online
- Rayman Legends

EvilMario

Will QA for food.

as long as the content is not locked to these figures, it's not a big deal. i should not be required to buy figures to get more content out of my game.

A lot of the reason their launch stuff sucked for Wii was because they got Wii dev kits late.

And developers didn't have enough time to implement the Wii motion technology correctly.
