So Spooky clarified his comments and said he won't be streaming certain events anymore. I guess he would probably work on the bigger events like CEO and Season Beatings and not doing smaller events like Power Up anymore. Doing only bigger events will help because they are usually spaced out pretty well.

"It's not really retirement, I won't be doing these kind of events anymore, though."

bittersweet

It's a fair compromise, but yeah, it's bittersweet.

He should avoid events that don't have proper power and internet for streaming a tournament.

This is definitely more positive than negative, the dude doesn't need to get burned out on events which are still not "there" when it comes to providing good conditions for streamers.

He should stick to CEO, Final Round and the like + locals.

I think this is really good longterm. This is at least a message to certain tournaments that they just can't be lazy in organizing and just rely on Spooky, that if they want a stream they have to plan something themselves. I really think I would be sick of it as well if I was in Spookys place and organizers don't make sure there's power, internet, a good structure for the tournament etc. I mean, it have seemed like Spooky has had to taken it upon himself to organize shit in the tournaments because noone else seemed to give a shit. Hopefully this will mean that the things that get stream will be better planned and those that don't have to put up some effort if they want views in the future.

Speaking of Timeouts, I was playing AE the other night and I came across some Guile playing with 30 second time limit, and I didn't notice it until I randomly lost while just playing footsies.

these kinds of things don't just make me wonder why they are playing the game, but also what kind of person they are in real life :lol

I remember back in my high school days some people would set up street fighter alpha 3 and everyone would have a good time, until this one dude always had to set the game settings to make the game play hella fast. he would also change the default buttons and make everyone wait a long ass time. he was, of course, undefeated because no one wanted to call him out on this shit and he was the only one who could play the game that fast.

God I hope Spooky does some house streams again.

He's at the point where people love him enough, and not the games he streams, that he can do whatever he wants on stream and get thousands of viewers. I think he should stick to only doing the biggest events of the year, and run some other kind of show from his own place. Maybe go back to Twitch too, for more viewers :\ With the extra boost in viewers, he could easily live off commercials and stuff.

Spooky's not a sellout.

Just now catching up on the Spooky news, this has bummed me out the most out of all the FGC "drama" we have had lately. Spooky streams were what got me into fighting games, and while I am happy that he isn't completely stopping it is still a real bummer.

I do hope this leads to more house streams again with everyone just playing random retro stuff, the last time they did that it was really entertaining.

How is that a sellout? You act like Spooky doesn't air commercials. He airs commercials to support himself. And how would going back to Twitch be selling out? His reasons were due to issues with their servers, particularly during big events. He shouldn't have issues with house streams on Twitch, and honestly Twitch is constantly showing improvement. I'm hoping they do him well with EVO.

I'm also surprised that he never got someone to team with him when streaming these events. I should be doing one of the streams for Youmacon in Detroit this year, and I'm looking for someone to train and do it with me, because I do not want to sit behind a desk for 3 days straight, because yes, it isn't very fun (and Youmacon is very fun). Getting someone to split the time up and stream in shifts would be great, but I guess a lot of his closest Team Spooky buds are out and about a lot these days doing other stuff.

It's terrible to watch. It's halfway between Street Fighter and Marvel in all the worst possible ways.

For truth. Nothing exciting happens in that game.

Is JWong there? I haven't seen him and I thought everyone would be there.

isn't it like $3 per commercial per 1000 viewers...seems hardly even worth bothering people with ads.

i do hope he does some house streams and gets to indulge in whatever games he wants. I guess I'm a fan of whatever he does, cause i definitely spent a few hours watching him play Disgaea 4 one time, which would normally sound like some kind of medieval torture, but he made it fun.

it's totally a Vs. half breed game. I find it quite boring for the time being and am not playing it, but hoping somehow the dam breaks and people get better at it to make it more fun to watch.

This is my deal with ads, both on streams and on sites I visit:

If I'm going to a site, there's a reason I'm there, I'm being provided something. Streams are the same way. If I have to watch ads or deal with ads on the side of a page, and doing so supports the people who provide me this content, then I have absolutely no problem with them. If it's supporting some corporation, I don't care for that so much, but for streaming the STREAMERS get paid! I'd happily sit through series' of 2-3 commercials to support spooky, provided I'm not missing content during the ads.

Own3d gives a good chunk more than twitch for its ad partnership TMK, I don't think he'll be picking up enough to cover going back to twitch.tv unless they directly sponsor him or something.

I guess I'm not up to speed on ads. I've heard of some people making a whole lot of money on Twitch though. I guess either website it sounds like he could support himself.

I remember when he got his new laptop. It was like 4 in the morning, and all he was doing was testing if he could stream 720p, and there was like 800-1000 people in there, watching him mash buttons in training mode and restart the stream repeatedly. People watch Spooky because of Spooky.

I dont think thats the rule more like the exception

Oh man... Hearing about Spooky burning out has ruined my day. Dude is such a boss. I'll make sure to tell him thanks at EVO. :(

I appreciate SFxT because of how it offers options. I don't find it anything like Marvel. It's more like SF with hints of KOF and Blazblue. The KOF aspect I like because of the ways you can use meter... and using meter like in KOF is actually expensive so it rewards proper meter management over other SF games. You can use the meter for so many things outside of combo's that include alpha counters, cross assaults, to make chains safe, safe switch cancels among other things. Just like in KOF where outside of damage you can utilize meters for rolls or blowbacks off block or whatever to get a better vantage over your opponent which is really fun to see in practice.

And the lack of rolling in SFIV really pissed me off. Eating non stop vortex mixups wasn't fun. Again, it's more options given to you in SFxT is what adds to its integrity.

And lastly, like KOF, it's honest fighting. No broken comeback mechanics and moments where extra damage that can be dealt like in happy birthdays are actually scouted by the player rather by luck from an opponent's negligence as in MvC3.

Yeah, I agree it has it's issues. Like SFIV it still has annoying cinematic supers which are retarded. And yes, the walking speeds are too slow during tournaments. That's what IMO speed gems are for but since they're banned for now, we can't actually see the game played to its full potential yet. I personally would have loved for a run like in the SNK games.

Wut yes it does.

both kof and sfxt has comeback mechanics

luck from an opponent's negligence as in MvC3.

aka taking advantage of the opponent not playing smart, not "luck." It also goes the other way, when you get too hasty about a happy birthday and end up beating up on the assist, leaving yourself wide open to the player who fell out of it

SFxT does have a broken comeback mechanic. It's just broken in a good way... the way that makes it mostly useless. I also thought the "honest fighting" moniker came from the fact that KOF had good gameplay combined with no BS comeback mechanics. Keep in mind that there is a world of difference between HD combos, Skullgirls' surplus meter gain, Pandora and X-factor.

Well I got knocked out of MK, SFxT, and SF. My last match of MK I got bodied by some kid having his grandma record the match on his cell phone. She had no clue if her grandson had won after the match. lol
