Dark Souls |OT4| Victory achieved for Scamco, text defeated

Just need to farm some Chunks off of the Black Knights to get some final weapons for NG+ and then it's final boss time! I need to join Gravelord and Forest Hunter covenants in NG+, and I should be well on the road to Platinuming this amazing game.

I really hope that Soul Sacrifice is a 'Soul game, that would make my daily commutes fly by.

Solo'd Four Kings in NG+ on my first try! Only had to burn through 8 Estus and 4 Humanities. And why were there five kings? Another had spawned when I killed the fourth.

It is based on damage and you may not cause enough damage on the first four to take the health down to zero.

Well fuck this game :(

Started off in the Tomb of Giants. The huge skeletons are tough but I can get past them. But then there's like four of them in a pit and they will immediately jump you if you get anywhere near them. Also, after beating them the path leads to nowhere. So I find another path...and hey, here's a skeletal-spidery-thing or two. Along with a knight of some sort. Also, archers shooting at you from the back. All in this dark narrow area where it's easy to fall off even without enemies distracting you. Fair!

So I left the Tomb of Giants to kill Ceaseless Discharge and see what comes after. After that comes a monster that was pretty much like the Capra demon, but since I'm now stronger he isn't much of a problem. Dark Souls immediately counters that by giving you six of them pretty much at once. Luring them out doesn't work because they won't effing move unless I walk right up to them, but if I'm next to them then that triggers more than one demon.

Also some gargoyles and worms that break both of your weapons immediately just for the fuck of it. After that is a boss that has some pretty clear tells for its various attacks, if it weren't for the fact that the camera is so low that I only see its toes.

I've realized that if you don't like Demon's Souls, then Dark Souls isn't gonna do anything for you, but if you don't like Dark Souls, then Demon's Souls might actually change your mind. When Demon's Souls created a problem with four solutions, Dark Souls creates four problems and covers the path to the solution with landmines for added fairness. Anyone who says Demon's Souls was harder is insane.

I also switched out the lightning spear. My stats are high enough that I was allowed to wield some axe I've been lugging around, and I like it. Did 2-3 times the damage straight away without even being upgraded yet.

Stop complaining about TotG. It became way easier since the last patch.
Seriously, Giant Skeletons and skeleton dogs no longer aggro if you are not too close despite the light you have and which should attract enemies who are far away...

So uhhh, I decided to kill
Gwynevere
. But before I do so I need to know if I can be invaded by the covenant people even in non-human form? I want to soul farm but not if I have to look over my shoulder every 2 minutes.

Fuck whoever made the Seath event. I just lost 26 humanity because the game forced me to die.
lol, I didn't lose quite that much, but I definately lost humanity and souls when I first met that guy - funny thing is I knew about it from watching a Let's Play on youtube, just forgot.

I haven't worried about losing humanity since I started laying down white soapstone signs - co-op is fun and profitable!

Keep your eyes open....the problems you've listed actually have simple solutions. What you've described is equivalent to running directly into a wall hoping to bust through it instead of looking for a door. For example those 6 capra demons in the demon ruins, you really only need to fight at most 2 of them before you reach the next bonfire.

Yeah, I hate cheap shit like that. Luckily I only lost 27,000 souls when I got there, but I still thought it was bullshit.

Exactly. Just lure one at a time out with arrows, and he'll likely kill himself on the narrow path, anyway. Then just drop down onto the platform below right next to the bonfire.
For me, I had the Hawk Ring, high dex and the Bow of Pharis, so I was able to snipe them all with arrows.

Trying to lure them out with arrows was the first thing I tried. They just took the arrows to the face and didn't move an inch. When I moved in closer to actually trigger them, two of them triggered at once. "I'll sit here for 10 minutes and shoot you guys" seems like the wrong answer for this game, no matter how effective.

I totally made it to the next bonfire. It wasn't hard, it was just annoying.

Now the boss on the other hand. Argh. I died on my first few attempts due to excessive fire to the face, so I equipped the armor I have that resits fire a little more, and in the next few attempts I died by axe instead. The boss is just bullying me, that bastard.

Went human and looked for a summon sign. Not a single one around.

All that combined made me argh. Also, funny thing about this game, I stopped there with a "Fuck everything" attitude, but I'm now writing this and totally wanting to go back and give the boss another shot.

L2p son. You can draw them one at a time by walking. You probably wasn't patient enough. Or a better way. Use a bow.
Demons is a harder game than dark. No doubt about that

Try the pyromancy spell Flash Sweat instead. Increases fire resistance a lot so you can keep your higher defense armor on. Try to avoid using lock on and get behind him. Just be wary of his AOE fire attack, but flash sweat should mitigate most of that damage.

Demons is a harder game than dark. No doubt about that

I'm not sure about that one, myself. Maybe it's because of the experience with Demons Souls that Dark Souls seems easier, but Dark Souls definitely has harder bosses. I had zero trouble with any of Demon's bosses.

Yeah Demon's is definitely harder. This game doesn't have black phantom enemies with 4000+ HP who heal and can kill you in one hit. The bosses in Demon's Souls are probably easier than Dark Souls though. Only a few have given me trouble, and only in NG+

your bloodstain will be there if you can make it back without dying.....it is possible, if not probable as you have to clear a lot of the level before you can return. I lost some souls and humanity the first time through, but the next character knew it was coming so she did not bring much with her......I made it all the way to
big hat event
and much to my surpirse I saw my bloodstain from what seemed like a few hours earlier!!! Too bad it had nothing in it. Directly under the cell where you spawn there are some
humanity dropping, completely farmablle octopus monsters
....just don't get close to them and they are free money...pyro is best for splash damage can get more than one.... or lightningbolts work OK...not sure about magic. I prefer farming here to the pits before Neto.

BP that can kill you in one hit and have a ton of hp are in Dark Souls as well, but a Gravelord needs to summon them. Unfortunately once a GL curses your world, people are quick to invade their world, kill them and end the curse. There is a bug that makes the BP permanent, but I havent read if someone has figured out how to cause the bug. Gravelord BP in First Kiln is pretty nasty.

BP black knights can definitely one shot you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_WQm-H-G1U

I also remember being one shotted by a BP darkwraith in new londo.

Regarding Demon's, I think it's a mixture of more challenging levels, more unique bosses that aren't just bigger, stronger versions of regular dudes, and more tedium that makes the game less noob-friendly than Dark. When I say tedium, I mean things like item burden, having to farm healing items, having to go back to the nexus to do things like level up, upgrade weapons, etc. If you think about it, every bonfire in Dark is like a mini-nexus.

the hardest bosses of all time to SOLO are King Allant, maneaters, and Orn and Smu in that order....having tow to deal with is hard....even gargoyles are tougher solo than most bosses in both games........4 kings not so much as it is one at a time and just mash X to win.......its more of a boss by boss analysis...obviously there are cheese bosses in both games...all the world 5 bosses are cheese, but so is moonlight butterfly, gwyndolin, and pinwheel and neto.

In order to do ALL the events in the game, obviously demon's is harder owing to the black phantoms, , satsuki, scirvir, and to a lesser extent miralda and Ryvell. old king Dorian is hard also. I liked Demon's better as each BP gives a really goood item.....the tails do as well, and was cool at first, but it became predictable to go for tails and lacked specialness after a while.

I just want to emphasise though that although some aspedts of Dark were imporved over Demons's it was not by much...and overall both games are awesome...I can't imagine anyone that likes Dark not liking Demon's.

I actually don't find King Allant to be very difficult, he's deleveled me but never killed me. For me, Gwyn is a harder boss. Allant definitely gives you more time to heal.

And yeah I like the black phantoms from getting gravelorded, too bad it almost never happens when I play :|

Bp in dark is nearly non exist. I got platinum and I only seen bp once at brittowm.
But Bp is not what makes demon harder. It because the mobs are very unforgiving, lack of check point, and huge difficulty jump from ng to ng+

I've been lurking this thread for a few days now like a creep. It's making me want to go back and try to beat those Gargoyles on the church roof.

Will something like Astora's straight sword work on ghosts or will it just perma-kill the skeletons? Or do both which would be more preferable :p

I don't think it'll work on ghosts, but the Jagged Ghost Blade will. It's better just to use transient curses, that way you can hit ghosts with any weapon and block their attacks. It lasts for 5 minutes and ghosts drop them somewhat frequently.

Oh I agree there. Both games are amazing and I love them both. Had a discussion with a friend regarding which one is the better game, and we felt one doesnt really win out over the other.

We felt Dark Souls had the better world, very fun to explore and had great art direction. Much of the world was very beautiful, especially seeing Anor Londo for the first time. Demon's Souls had the better lore and characters. They had more interesting stories when you pieced them together. Dark Souls had a more fluid gameplay experience, and we liked how healing and such is handled which means less farming. However, Demon's Souls was more balanced and we never felt there were any cheap deaths there and any were the players own carelessness.

So all in all both games are great and both should be experienced if you like either.

Guess I'll go try to collect some of those for now then. I just took out gwyndolin in 1 try too, these bosses seem to be getting easier...

I really doubt anyone got their bloodstain back on their first game. I fell off that stupid invisible bridge(probably took this design from EQ) in the Crystal Cave twice, kept dying to
Seath's cheap curse while trying to cut his tail, didn't think the cursebite ring would work against him.
I usually farm the rats, maybe i'll try these guys.

For humanity? Baby Skeletons in Tomb of Giants are amazing to farm for humanity, and souls too if you use the right equipment.

Ive been doing my best to curse peoples world, but once I curse the people necessary, I get invaded within 5 minutes. The people that think Forest ganking is crazy, try out gravelord and see how quickly you get invaded. It sucks because people hardly run into BP. Overall I think Demon Souls is more difficult due to cramped fighting places, tougher to farm materials for udgrades and it is more unforgiving at times, but Dark Souls has its moments. Magic users in Demons Souls is very easy especially if you know the levels.

I don't really know where to go with my build at this point. Should I just start over? I never even finished Demon's so i'm inclined to go back to that.

My build:

Basically a balanced Knight using upgraded starter equipment.

I need that Mimic helmet but it never dropped for me. According to the wiki it should drop once per game since 1.05, but I haven't got it. I have the gold and silver Seperent rings though.

That dropped for me by literally the last mimic left in the game. The wiki also mentions using a Lloyd's Talisman to maximize your chances. You throw it at the mimc before hitting it and it enters a dazed state where its mouth hangs open. You can then grab the item from its mouth. It might take a few for the item to appear, not sure. Then you kill it and since it has no other item to drop, the symbol of avarice has a better chance to drop.

I used the symbol of avarice with 10 equipped humanity to maximize my item discovery rate, then for the rings I used the silver serpent ring to maximize soul gain combined with the symbol, and then used the Ring of the Evil Eye for my second ring. It restores health for every enemy killed. Since you kill so many baby skeletons at such a high rate, it completely offsets the hp drain the symbol of avarice does, and is even useful for recovering all hp lost by the babies hitting you. I very rarely had to use estus to heal. 20,000 souls every 5 minutes for me with that setup. I farmed for 30 minutes and got 56 humanity. That's not counting the humanity that disappeared before I could pick it up. I used Quelaag's Fury Sword as my weapon, as it is great for hitting the skeletons while I was constantly moving and not using lockon.

Where is the last one? Dukes Archive? I remember one in Sens (100% drop of Lightning Spear), then a couple in Anor Lando (entrance area by guards and inside one of the rooms), then Dukes.

Yeah there is two in Dukes, one in the library near where you see Logan. If it is a guaranteed drop per game then I've missed out :( It would show up as a helmet, right?

Yeah it's a helmet. Looks just like the mimics. Maybe someone has an extra one they can drop you, if your levels are close enough for a summon.

Buy a bow and 50 arrows. Shoot off the red dragon's tail for an awesome starters weapon called: drake sword. Catacomb is not where you want to go. You should go into a sewer called the depth. Pass that you will be in a shit hole called brittown. The fight a bitch called quelaag. Then ring second bell. Then go to sen's castle. The to arno londo get lord vessel. Finally you should make your way into the catacomb and area beyond called the gaints tomb.

Noob question but is it better to use these Souls of a lost undead or do I need these later on?

No, use them right away. However, Soul of Lost Undead and Large Soul of Lost Undead, save those. You can feed them to a certain NPC a little later for 500 souls a piece, rather than use them and get 200 and 400 respectively. Any souls larger than those two, consume them yourself.

Just beat the Stray Demon at level 25. He was pretty difficult, as he killed me with a single hit. I just two handed my Zweihander, got behind him and slashed his ass, then backed off while he did his AOE explosion, or buttslam. Took a little bit, but I was generally safe from being hit.

Heavy armor + 2 hand your strongest weapon + a stamina regen buff = Four Kings easy mode

I pretty much had mostly heavy armor and was 2 handing my quelaag's furysword+5 but I don't know anything about a buff. I have no magic or miracles pretty much and didn't level anything up.

But somehow I was able to take them down. For whatever reason Beatrice couldn't get through the fog gate with all of the enemies I ran by blocking it but even though by the time I got them down to 25% there were about 3-4 of them floating around and I had 0 flasks left, I somehow beat them.

The Catacombs is probably the last area you should go to in the entire game lol. Go back to the dragon bridge and open the door to the lower Undead Burg using the key found next to the large shortcut gate in Undead Parish in front of the church.

I have a quick question about PvP etiquette. I invaded this guy, and he was busy fighting a Gargoyle. Naturally I left him alone as he fought it, and then let him heal up afterwards. So I then start circling him, waiting for him to attack, or defend, something to signify he accepts my challenge. Instead he drops a humanity, and continues to stand idly.
So I took the humanity and then left, assuming it was his way of asking I not fight him.
Or perhaps it was thanks for waiting on him to finish his fight with the gargoyle.

Anyone have any idea?
I never did invade much, and I don't like being a douchebag when I do, though I am unsure of some of the PvP etiquette, so if anyone has a few pointers there, I'd love to hear them.
