Good list aside from the awful Little Big Adventure and 1-2 others.

Even so, I don't think anyone can say that GOG user reviews aren't massively inflated. And I say that as someone who loves the site and owns far too many GOG games.

lba now it's dated but back them was awasome. The thing is the most problematic thing about old games are that they are somewhat clunky and most of the time offer bad graphic. But it's clunkines is something you can learn and sometimes is created that way because of reason. In Gothic 1 there is some most clunky system for fighting for new people, but it was created to fight in this game with tactic. If you learned new move you actually had to do this move no press a for awasome.

But above is only true for two first hours. If anyone can menage to play it for 2-3 hours you will find magic.

Thief looks bad now but it's gameplay is stellar and looking at AI of opponents in that game opponents in new games have braindamage.

Today's new release is...Splinter Cell. Hopefully the start of a new wave of games from Ubisoft. And it'd be awesome if they can make Pandora Tomorrow works!

Interesting, they show the bonus missions that only came with OEM copies for PC in the screenshots. I was able to find a patch that added them to retail copies after years of searching and then Steam launched their copy without it as well. I'm gonna laugh if the GOG copy is missing the missions too, especially with the screenshots.

As for Pandora Tomorrow, they aren't going to be able to fix graphics card issues, that would require ATI and Nvidia's help.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.

Crisis Averted, from the GOG forums:

It is included. Three last levels that are unlocked from the start are from mission pack.

Welp, double release: Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum!
So GOG makes it so older games run well on modern hardware, right?

I've sone every ini tweek i could find and i still can't get the steam pc version to have good lighting and antialiasing.

It is probably just my computer, but if it still acts up when i upgrade maybe ill pick up the GOG copy.

No, even back then it was kinda busted, it just wasn't as glaring as it is now. It's why LBA2 is remembered more fondly: they fixed the problems with LBA1. Unfortunately they forgot to compensate for the loss of bad-interface difficulty and the game was kinda short and easy as a result (which is still far preferable).

I'd wait a few days and check their forums. Some things GOG can't fix (for a variety of reasons).

holy mow!

everytime I check gog out of blue something super awesome has happened; SC is a really great game; but I have been fucking waiting to play Soul Reaver, YES!

Been playing Nox and apart from getting used to the lack of a click-to-move mechanic, it's been pretty fun, even with the graphic glitches with the intro and the mouse pointer becoming invisible when opening menus during play.

I guess I need to check the GOG forums before I buy another game from them.

I just downloaded Populous: The Beginning from GOG (Old favorite of mine), and the game is pretty messed up.

The menu's are fine, but when I get in-game, the graphics are completely messed up; the colors on the screen are completely glitched. Trying to run the GOGSetup ended up crashing explorer, which is always fun.

I'll try re-installing it tomorrow and try a few other things, but if I can't get this working I will be incredibly frustrated. I had some issues with the only other GOG game I bought, and this is making it harder and harder to justify buying old games anymore if I can't get them to work. Not much point in buying Good Old Games if I can't actually play them. I suppose I could always just try it on my old XP netbook, or buy the PSN version of the game (lol).

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
I want to throw my recommendation behind Splinter Cell and Soul Reaver (though I never played the PC version of SC1)

Also I'm having a blast with Nox.

Worst case open a support ticket with GOG or request a refund. They're pretty good at troubleshooting / returning money if things don't work right.

How do Splinter Cell and Soul Reaver run? Any upscaling or just original resolution?

Also, I want Screamer 2. Need it, actually.

Hey guys, wasn't sure where to post this, so I figure I'd ask here:

I recently installed Baldur's Gate II (with all the essential mods), and wanted to know...

1) What's the recommended widescreen mod resolution? I set it to my monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050, but I really have to squint to see map details, and there's no zoom. So...?

2) Why is there a few second delay for the info box to come up when highlighting over items and onscreen options? Is this lag?

3) Left my game idle for a bit, and it crashed ("Game has stopped working..."). I know this could be anything, but could it be something to do with the affinity in the task processor?

1) I play at 720p, anything above and things get tiny.

2) No, you can set the delay time in the option menu.

Nothing for me this weekend. Looking forward to the eventual Squenix/Eidos weekend, though, seeing as I've got no less than four of their games sitting on my wishlist (Thief, Thief 2, Anachronox, Soul Reaver)...

I don't own any of the Ground Control games - should I get both? Or just number 2?

I like the first one; it's different enough from most RTS to warrant a play through. It may still be available for free without the expansion, but the expansion is worth buying, so it's up to you.

The second one is a different type of game. It removes some of what made the first so unique, but it's not a bad game.

Both games are really good. The first one is probably my favourite, because your units carry over from mission to mission and thus you form a sort of relationship with them. There is a much higher importance ascribed to these units than in GC2, where you simply drop in new units, if the old ones are lost. GC2 is still fucking amazing, though.

I would say get both. They're definitely worth it.

Anachronox needs more love on GAF. I'm several hours in and it's really impressive for something that usually flies under the radar. Good dialogue, nice location variety and the cutscenes are surprisingly well done.

Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future!
Max Payne, I'd assume. Although Death Rally's a very real possibility (hopefully as one of the free games you get with an account)

Well, realistically, it'll be all three. The company has only made 5 games (6 if you could both versions of Death Rally separately), American Nightmare is going to come to Steam first. I see no reason why they wouldn't just dump everything they've made on GOG :p

Okay, genuinely surprised by today's release.

Alan Wake

Yes, really.

$30 ordinarily, $15 currently, both DLCs included.
Super impressive, will the game always be 15 or its a temporal thing. I want to give GoG this purchase. But it won't happen now, need to be a bit more tight with the expending.

Still fantastic anyone interested in this good game should pick up from GoG.

Sad thing is, for the next week, Alan Wake is going to be $4 cheaper than Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum...

I love GOG and they're the only DD company I'd really ever trust, but damn! $20 for an 8 year old game?!

Both have proper resolution settings, iirc. Here's a video of Soul Reaver running in at least 720p so you should be good. I know for a fact Splinter Cell 1 has resolution options.
Video should give a good display of how the GoG version runs as well (for obvious reasons!)

I need to buy it, I hope Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance show up eventually. For Blood Omen 1 I'm good, still have my original disc :D

Edit: Replaced the video with one that shows the menus and options available in Soul Reaver, GoG version should be identical, however.

Oh, awesome. That made it that little bit easier to justify buying. I can't remember if it was on sale when it first appeared on GOG, but if so I'm sure kicking myself now :/

Problem here is likely Atari. For those retailers they have piles of discs, and since tehy bought them they can price them however they want, but fo digial distribution Atari probably has some crazy idea this is the kind of game to keep at $20 for forever.

I agree with that, and I'm not trying to be anti-GOG in any way, shape or form. Problem is, if they don't have the clout to push Atari down to $9.99 DRM Free, then it may be a better option to just not include the game on the website in the first place. All it does is generate a lot of negative publicity for the site and perpetuate the "GOG - old games at stupidly high prices" myth :(
