Maturity, bitches.
I took apart the ol' Hogwarts Set and my fingers were grey with God knows what.

Don't leave Lego near a kitchen if you plan on displaying it for years.

really the fire engine is by far not my favorite, but I disagree, there are some great creator vehicles.

They are great, but you have to admit they still look more toy-like compared to that Truck with two stripes from Model Team for example. That truck and some other MT stuff looked like something high end creators from the MOC community would build today.

Usually use my iPhone, but that batch and the last batch of Deadpool pics were with a Canon point and shoot I got years ago. I usually set it to macro mode for super close shots. If only my hands were more steady.

This, a thousand times this. I just got my first DSLR (it's an old one) and my shaky hands ruin a lot of good shots. This is the best one I've managed to take, and it's still pretty blurry. I need a tripod.

I don't think it's blurry but the focus seems to be on the black lego the snowtrooper is standing on. The f value might be to low for the shot you want.

That being said.... a tripod is SOOOOO usefull. I have a huge one and a small one hehe.

I know that means the aperture but I still can't wrap my mind around how the F stop and the shutter speed affect things.

That's a cool pic, but C3PO looks like a naked guy with a huge eye tattooed on his belly. I think his face needs to be visible to be recognizable as C3PO.

Are the Marvel sets Toys R Us exclusives? My local Target hasn't had them the last few times I looked and Amazon still doesn't have them.

I'll go a big offtopic, but to state it 'simply' the smaller the f-value, the bigger your diafragma opening. Because the lens is wide open, you need less environmental light. The result however is that a smalle part of the picture will be sharp.
For a picture where everything is sharp (for instance also the scout in the background) you will need a high f-value (say f/18)
This means your diafragma is very small, and not a lot of light can access the lens.
To have enough light for this... you need a longer shuttertime. Long shuttertimes usually means you need a tripod though.

So to keep it short:
f/5.6 -> very open diafragma -> shorter shuttertime -> picture with small object sharp, surrounding vague
f/18 -> small (almost closed) diafragma -> Longer shuttertime -> picture where everything is sharp.

I am a noob at photographing and english isn't my first language, so I hope my explanation makes sense.

I know that means the aperture but I still can't wrap my mind around how the F stop and the shutter speed affect things.

Shutter speed is just how long the you keep the shutter open to take the picture. The faster the shutter speed, the less light you allow in. The longer the shutter speed, the more light you allow in. The trick though is whatever you're taking a photo of will capture all that information as long as the shutter is open. So a fast shutter speed will capture everything at more of an instant where as a slower shutter speed might introduce blur if objects are moving or the camera is moving

As far as F stop goes, think of it as the size of the opening on your camera lens. If it's a small opening, all the light gets focused through that point where as if it's a large opening, it's distributed all over. So the basic result is, a small f stop can give you more light but on a more specific object or area where as a large f stop will distribute the light all over which can darken the overall pic. Another side effect is a smaller f stop gives you more depth of field where as a larger f stop will decrease the depth of field.

I just ordered my first 3 in 1 creator last night and decided on the lighthouse. Good choice?

I was wondering what you guys do with the creators, pick one you like and stick with it? Build all 3 then decide which one you want to keep? Anyone ever buy 3 of the same one to get all variations?

I will usually build the least desirable of the three first, just to get it over and done with :p
Then the second best and then I will usually stick with the prime build for a while.
For most creator sets I have to agree the main build is usually the best. The yellow car is an exception because the F1 car looks spectacular too!

whats that second one? (I have the first one - cool cruiser - its a lovely set)
Highway transsporter, where I also find the main build very nice, but yea that secondary tow truck is very nice too.

Get a mini tripod, that you can easily place inbetween your Lego sets and position it, that should greatly help.
I usually prefer taking pictures with a tripod, they are just so much more crisp and sharp, as I have wobbly hands too... :-/

Got my final figure that i want from series 7, the computer programer. Also grabbed some marvel sets that I said I woudln't get....

Quint Jet, Loki's Escape, and the Captain America one. Even the employees at the LEGO store talked down the Helicarier escape one, saying it was a terrible set, only worth it for Hulk. Hope it comes in a set later that's better, or I may just Briklink it someday.

I'm still debating if I want Helicarrier breakout myself. I really only want the Hulk figure as I can get the others I want in the Cosmic Cube Escape minus Thor. Thor will be in a polybag later this year too. I need to figure out what to spend 50 bucks on next week though so I can get the Hulk minifig.

People with R2D2: Are you having problem with the central leg not going down far enough? Whenever I put it into tripod mode, its always a half inch away from the ground, is it supposed to be doing that?

Picked up my first Series 7 packs. The girl at the check out was telling me how she sees people there for hours feeling them out for the right figure. Maybe that's a sign I'm not going to have any luck =( The box looked like it was a freshly opened one though. At any rate I didn't take the time to feel cuz it's much more fun this way =)

Honestly the only reason for me to get the Helicarrier Breakout set is for the Hulk figure. I'm planning on getting the Quinjet and Captain America sets next week so I get the Hulk minifigure..and I might bricklink Hawkeye. Unless it makes more sense to get Loki's Escape.

How in the world did the Captain America bike get made without a few alternate pieces to attach the shield to the front...

Loki's Escape also has an alternate Iron Man figure. It's not the same one from Quint Jet.

Glad some of you feel like I do. I just got recently into legos and I'm all about the bang for your buck. I think that hellicarrier set is weaksauce. Might just hope to pay $20 for the hulk figure at a flea market down the line. The quinjet looks good also, but being that all I need is Hulk and Thor, and Thor will be polybagged later I might just skip that set.

Of all the Batman sets that are still available any of you recommend a particular one? I'd like to be able to create other things with them down the line.

Quintjet also manages to come in under that magical .10/piece price point.

I got Loki's Escape last night and I kinda like it. It's not bad, but I wanted the IM figure and it was only $20. Probably gonna get the Captain America one, too, since it's pretty cheap.

Only planning on buying the Loki Escape for the figs there and the SHIELD jeep- from there i was planning on just Bricklinking all the other Avengers.

Mens, does anyone know the timeframe for the release of flagship Technic sets? I'm talking the Mercedes Unimog, the Crane Truck, etc. I'm guessing it's not yearly?

Wow, I got all three of my Bricklink orders all on the same day! Very quick and all pieces I ordered were included! :D

Unfortunately I'm still waiting on the pieces I ordered from LEGO's Pick-a-brick and I have no estimated time of delivery. Says it's in Strykow, Poland right now. D:

Talk about a total brick-block. I have 95% of the pieces and I want to build! :(

Hurrah. X-Wing arrived from France just now. Pretty nice, as I ordered it on Monday, and the extra hop over Bass Strait usually adds a day. Haven't had a change to get my LEGO on, so the extra wait was no big deal. +1 plans for the weekend.

So I put together my Avengers sets.

They are WAY to reliant on stickers. I don't like stickers to begin with, but at least with Star Wars sets it seems like they're trying to use them sparingly.

Awesomeballs. That seemed pretty quick, MTE. How long did it take to arrive? Also, I recommend you start devising a stand of sorts; preferrably tall enough to hold it with the foils open. No one likes an X-Wing on its haunches. Very unbecoming.

I got the shipping notice from Amazon.fr at ~2am AEST Tuesday. Would have ordered early afternoon Monday. Pretty happy wth the time.

Yeah, I saw the discussion about a stand. I'd not thought of it. I'll look at what was suggested here and what I might have lying around.

Looking at all the awesome MOCs, upcoming sets, BrickLink, Pick-a-brick... I feel my LEGO expenditure is about to explode...

Woah. That's like... 3 days. I assumed, you know, being Amazon and all - and in FRANCE, no less - it'd be at least 2 weeks. I'll have to give them a looksie.

And yeah, I just Bricklink'd some black girders and studless base plates with some additional flashy pieces to experiment with. I'm going for the whole "X-wing on a maintenance bay canopy" look. Swish.

I'll post it in here so you can learn from the multitude of mistakes that I'm predicting I'll make.

Want those LEGO LotR sets to go on sale on amazon :(
A few third parties have them already... well, or they are accepting money for them, at least.

Yeah, this blows. I at least want the option to preorder them. The official release is June 1, right? Does Amazon usually get them slightly early, or can we expect them launch day on there?

Went to Toys R Us today. No Monster Fighter or LOTR stuff in sight. Local BN did say they are getting the LOTR sets in June though. So keep an eye out for coupons. Hopefully a nice one comes so I can grab Battle of Helms Deep just for dat Theoden.

They really went nuts with the minifig details.

This set contains a shit-ton of stickers, but they are the clear-type, which I mind far less. I wouldn't expect LEGO to make all of those printed pieces.

My first LotR buys are Gandalf Arrives, Shelob Attacks, Attack on Weathertop, and Mines of Moria, just to get all of the Fellowship. I might pick up Helms Deep, too, but I think I'm going to wait a little bit. I'll get Helms Deep and the Uruk-Hai Army sets a little later in the Summer, in August or September. But damn, I have hype. TRU.com is listing the Helms Deep set now, and the pictures they have of it are really making me question my ability to wait.

Watching that Moria review, I love the exposed brick pieces that I THINK are new for LotR. Those will be great in some medieval MOCs.
