I wouldn't mind a Matrix reboot actually. I've been waiting for years. That film had way too much influence to let two crummy sequels kill any future potential.
i could see a prequel happening. sort of a terminator salvation type deal where the robots set up the first crops and harvests.

Battleship bombing is karma for Universal killing At the Mountains of Madness. This is a good day.

At the Mountains of Madness would have bombed just as bad. But good god, what a terrible fucking movie it turned out to be. I want that two hours of my life back. Easily one of the worst big-budget films I've ever seen.

fuck a Matrix remake. that movie looks better than every action movie since then... how the hell could you possibly improve it by remaking it? The only directors who could have a better grasp of directing action are... probably James Cameron, and that's it.

God, 4 years before Avatar 2 comes out and all the haters are slayed.

Such a torturous wait.

PG-13 Del Toro doesn't have box office, let alone R. Shit...I think Blade 2 was the last to really make some money.

Difference is his film would have been good whereas Battleship was shit. I hope his box office fortunes change next year. Pacific Rim sounds like a wet dream of awesomeness.

Huh? Pan's Labyrinth did fine.

Yes but I mean hit status. Blade 2 was a hit. Pan's Labyrinth wasn't, though it did make money. Universal isn't giving someone 150 million dollars to make an R-rated horror/creature film, even if it does star Tom Cruise. Not even Cameron's involvement could get Mountains made with that rating.

Tom Cruise was box office poison. He was coming off Knight and Day, which was a bad bomb. Del Rio might have a chance of pushing it through now with a $100 million budget or so. But Tom Cruise was as much of a liability then as the concept.

Statistics and the increase in box office intake with each subsequent movie say otherwise. Don't confuse critics with the average joe.

Ding, ding.

Revenge of the Fallen was a B+ for the average person.
GAF is not the mainstream.

It is very hard to explain why you need 150M, when a $5-20M horror films double their budget on a regular basis.

Wait.. Please tell me RJD didn't actually get payed 50 mil for The Avengers. Please tell me it's an exaggeration.

That film is cruising to (likely) 1.4 billion worldwide at the box office alone (not to mention merchandising, which WILL be nuts), and you're sweating RDJ making $50 million?

really? REALLY?

If he doesn't deserve it, who does?

He was looked at to play Aaron Cross in Bourne Legacy. I'm glad Renner got the part.

lol.

as writer/director Whedon deserves a ton of credit, but I'm not sure he had the film cred/resume to demand that kind of arrangement pre-avengers.

He definitely will for Avengers 2, though.

I am sure he has enough of an "my shit don't stink" aura for a a good 5 movies.

Evans/Hemsworth/Ruffalo have to be feeling pretty salty about it though.

why would they be? RDJ was a very respected actor/figure before Iron Man. They couldn't possibly be as dumb as Terrence Howard to think they're anywhere near on the same level... LOL

Launching Battleship a month ahead overseas was beyond stupid. The toxic WoM had already spread to virtually everyone by the time it got here.

I'm not saying launching it overseas when they did was bad, but there was no reason not to launch it in America at the same time.

Curious you say that since it was Universal that got a jump start on the summer movie season early last year with Fast Five. Perhaps they should have gone ahead and released Battleship a week or two before Avengers. Not like there was any competition. Probably could have made some more money.
