The new release date applies to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. A release date for the Wii U version will be revealed "at a later time", publisher Sega said.

"I am thrilled to announce the definitive launch date for Aliens: Colonial Marines," Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford said.

This totally screams timed exclusive to me.

Totally. Why release it AFTER Feb 2013 when we know Wii U is out before then? It's a pretty popular license so might be a smart move for Nintendo. Also it adds some context to his recent talking up the Wii U version.

Any idea what the activation force of the DS/3Ds is? Also, is 1024 the maximum resolution, regardless of size? That might be passable. Fine for controller only stuff, and while a bit low for mapping to full 1920x1080, would probably be fine for most applications.
I don't even know who manufactures the 3DS touchscreen, let alone any precise physical specs. :(

Anyway, the resolution of a touchscreen is independent of its size, yes. Because the touchscreen itself is analog. The output resolution depends on the controller, and those are typically either 10bit or 12bit. 3DS uses a 12bit controller as far as I know, so 4096x4096. The MARS touchscreens probably support 12bit controllers as well, but the evaluation kit comes with a 10bit controller.

Not a fan of mercury steam's involvement. Writing was not that game's strong suit at all. Neither was platforming. Still if it ends up closer to rebirth and not another Castletroid I'll take it.

Man oh man, if they start pulling little stunts like that.. it'd be a pretty good sign that they're following-through on that "pursuing the core" business.

I want to believe. I mean, they practically called their shot with thisngeneration, saying openly, "we're pursuing the blue ocean demographic/strategy." Now, for this gen, they've called a new shot..

Suddenly, I'm wondering what topic VII should be called.

Wii U Speculation Thread VII: These guys is sick
Wii U Speculation Thread VII: Keep goin'? Off course!
Wii U Speculation Thread VII: Sleepless Nights of the Round
or, if it happens before E3,
Wii U Speculation Thread VII: Iwata casts Meteor

Assuming it's true, I couldn't be happier that IGA isn't involved. It's now at least possible that we'll get a portable Castlevania that actually has good level design.

Have no idea how accurate this list is:

Also you'd need to work out which are Nintendo's games and which are third party's.

Perhaps it's time to hear about Miyamoto's once hinted at project Marionette.

How hilarious would it be if the new Steel Diver is indeed Project H.A.M.M.E.R. ? :p
it makes sense too! Both were tech-demos for the previous generation of hardware that disappeared after their initial showing.

Thanks. Sorry, I'm tired, I should have known that :)

He had a pretty firm belief that regular Castlevania titles could not work on Wii, so he basically spent all his credibility making Judgement and Order of Ecclessia.

It was a poor decision.
Ironically, the Wii was the only console this generation to get a "regular" Castlevania game.

And by "regular", I mean not-SotN-style. Rebirth was great.

I didn't mind OoE, but why would he say regular Castlevania wouldn't work, only to combine said franchise with another genre that the Wii was...

You know what, nevermind. I don't even understand anymore.

He figured a party game would work better. Then he tried to pitch it as a fanservice game, but had Obata redesign all the characters in a Deathnote-style. It's like making Smash Bros. but asking Ryuhei Tamura to redesign all the characters to look closer to Beelzebub - I love that manga, but that is really missing the point.

IGA could not envision a Wii Castlevania without using the wiimote as a whip and this idea kind of repulsed him.
