So is everyone in agreement that the NFC means we can expect the Wii U to have Skylanders, a Pokemon tie-in, and 1 or 2 other half-assed attempts to utilize the technology before it's completely ignored?

If I recall correctly, it can also be used to make CC payments.

I'd much prefer a coffee maker. I mean, Project Cafe? Gaming with friends as though we're all in a cafe together?

I wonder if it'll make espresso as well..

NDAs are SERIOUS SHIT. Why do you think most of the leaked information is done in ways that do not trace back to personal identity? We get a lot of info from people who either don't disclose ANY personal information about themselves or do so by proxy in the case of posters like IdeaMan. If you're gonna leak, make sure that there's no way to trace it back to the source.

It always surprised me that there aren't any issues in sports like this. You got a team talking about a 200 million dollar contract, and weeks before it's official a insider has reported it as a done deal, I've always been shocked that someone like Ken Rosenthal can scoop a MLB team, but a video game reporter could get in trouble. Someone needs to get some sources, and not sign any NDA's.

I feel for the kid and the wife/partner, but really.... what the hell is he doing flouting NDAs with a family to think of?! You revoke the option to be careless like that when you have more than yourself to think about. It's part of the reason I don't want to be a parent right now.
I honestly got the impression he didn't realise he was breaking NDA, or forgot... still, that sort of negligence would get you sacked or at least disciplined in any number of professions.

I just imagine his reaction to have been "oh shit, what have I done?" rather than "oh shit, I got busted".

He'll write a book about it. Or start a website. Watch and see. Gotta parlay that instant fame into something!

Holy crap, I didn't realize that making a simple animated gif was so draining. I'm fighting the urge to conk out in my chair so that I can get as far as submitting my OP. :p

I wish there were some sort of NeoGAF scratchpad you could use to test making threads before actually "publishing" them. I worry about using the "Preview Post" because I might actually submit something while not yet done with the creation!

Wow, 1847 posts today.

I feel bad for the leaker. It was just a dumb mistake, and his punishment threatens to far outweigh the intention of the crime.

Rosenthal gets his info 2nd-hand. Most video game reporters get info direct from the companies themselves and sign NDAs accordingly. Thus, even if they report on a leak from another source, it exposes them to liability. Reporting on the Twitter leak is cool, though, because it doesn't trace to them at all, it's documented who actually leaked it. And EVERY news outlet made sure to specify where the information came from, you'll notice.

There's no way they'd allow the wii u to take nfc card payments
Why not? Don't underestimate little Timmy's ability to copy the numbers off of mummy's credit card. It just makes something that is already possible a little simpler.

At my university all the food and drink vending machines ONLY take NFC payments.

Edit: should specify that the NFC thing only takes money from a specific NFC account. You gotta use a machine to transfer funds from your normal account to your NFC account first, so if someone picks up your card they can't immediately go wild ordering 1000 Snickers bars unless you have put a huge amount of cash in the NFC account.

Awesome as I think it would be I just don't see credit card companies treating a game console as secure enough to accept nfc payments through

I don't see how security can be a problem when there are vending machines that accept nfc payments. If a vending machine can do it so can the Wii U :p

I'm going to guess that it's inclusion in the controller is more for CC transactions than for any other possible application. It keeps Nintendo from having to store CC information while keeping the option very simple.

Thats what it is designed for and why they added it in the first place. You can probably even use your SUICA card or even your PASMO cards with it in Japan haha. NFC is widespread in Japan in many portable devices as well it is very widespread.

I'm not sure about other countries but there is a 15 pound limit for nfc sales in the uk

In before active NFC tagged Pikachu figurines which will carry your virtual Nintendo money and that you would have to put on GameStop checkout machines :p

Oh, with the Pokemon theme song playing when you purchase something !

And at the same time, you'll do your most beautiful, ravaging, casanova, seducing smile (the one with sparkles), to the sexy mum waiting behind you.

We obviously NEED this !

I got ya. So you would basically have to know a reporter, agent, executive, and have that person willing to tell you info, and trust you enough that you wouldn't spill their name. Still I'm surprised there isn't anyone out there that hasn't gotten a huge connection, and milked it into a career as the number one video game insider, being ahead of signed NDA places like GI, and IGN.

Edit: and it's not a leak of a secret picture, games, anything. It's, like often, a confirmation with details of what a few informed people guessed. Again, i don't want to spoil anything major and really surprising for Nintendo come E3.

Simple yes or no answer. Do you actually know anything "major and really surprising"?

Nothing is stopping you from ripping out the chip and sticking it inside a Pikachu plushie!

There are extreme measures taken to find leakers in the tech industry as a whole, such as sending different prototypes to different places, so that things like leaked photography can be traced close enough to the origin for a company witch-hunt to begin. It's a risk that most people refuse to take, so "career insiders" just don't exist in the tech world.

No but if it was the case i wouldn't post it, unless it was already strongly guessworked with analysis/theorycrafting, repeated in a lot of threads, etc.

i think that was honest huh, i could have said "i know haptic-level things guyzzzzz, now i must sleep !" as some think i'm of that caliber ! /sob

I was going to make another one, but I thought that two gifs of violent things being done to dudes with your avatar's head might send the wrong message...

Just had pretty mortifying experience. Can somebody bring me up to spend to make me feel better?

Mind if I ask what's wrong? Have been having a pretty fucking disastrous month and a half now, and this day was kind of the cherry on top of it as well.

So we should never expect major/really surprising Wii U info from you. That's all I need to know. Thanks.

At least he has to know something about Wii U game(s), perhaps unknown title(s) with details about their looking, gameplay etc... But I don't think he'll talk about that, ninjas are everywhere.
