Max Payne 3 PC Features Detailed.

For the people playing in 3D, are you using 3D Vision 2? I've got the first version and I can't play a lot of games due to the ghosting hurting my eyes or being annoying. Is it worthwhile to upgrade from 1 to 2 (and get a new monitor?)

i play on an HMZ T1 which has a dedicated screen for each eye, so darker games like this and Batman look great (apart from the boat level). you either need to get a monitor with light boost, or a display that doesn't have crosstalk like a DLP projector or an HMD.

playing in 3D Vision 2 on BenQ Xl2420T ... never experienced ANY other type of 3D so can't compare

but this looks awesome in 1080p :) like I can reach out and stroke Max's awesome beard <3

especially now that I found out this morning that you can adjust 3D convergence/depth/whatever in the graphics menu ... gonna have to replay the whole game soon because I'm already near the end I guess :p

The XL2420 and the one with the built in emitter are the best 3DV2 Lightboost monitors out there, and they're great in 2D, too.

I finally got my steam version to run. I had to remove the spaces in the two Max Payne folders and create an steam_appid.txt. The game still won't launch via the Play button in Steam but all Steam functions still work when I launch the exe.

All the progress I had done in my downloaded version is still there, thank god for that. Only missing out on the achievements now, but don't really care about that.

Fuck are there cheaters already? Just played a game and one guy was invincible.
I've seen a couple of amazingly good people and I couldn't help but feel that they were cheating.

Feuds are really brutal and intense.

How does the mini map work? How do you get seen on there?

Also, are your saves saved in the cloud with Rockstar?

I ran into one guy who couldn't be killed, but other than that the folks tearing it up at the top of the scoreboard (myself included) are using dual pistols. Light class: no armor, no helmet, 1911, PT92, Sneakers, Big Dog. Once you level the weapons up add extended mags and then the lightweight upgrades, and then pile on whatever else you want whilst staying under the limit.

You get unlimited sprint, people don't hear you running up behind, your health regens super quick, and you can use adrenaline to trigger Big Dog to keep yourself alive during big fights.

Yeah, was trying out various AA earlier and had the game running 11 times in the background.

Dunno if this has been said yet, but if you turn on V-sync while running it in Full screen while keeping both MSAA and FXAA off in the in game options the mouse sensitivity is VASTLY improved. I turned V-sync on and holy shit my sensitivity went up 2x.

I have v sync on and have never experienced any sensitivity issues like people are talking about.

The aiming and movement is some of the best in any game. So accurate and easy.

Yeah it was awful when I first booted it up as I kept both Vsync off and was using the in game FXAA slider. I turned off FXAA and used MSAA through CCC and my sensitivity went up, but was still sluggish. I ended up finishing the game like this, and earlier today I ended up turning on vsync because I was running it 70+ FPS at all times anyways, and my sensitivity went waaaaaaaaaaay up when I did this. There's still noticeable acceleration, but now I can 180 much, much faster and consistently pull off headshots in bullet time on enemies across the screen without dragging my mouse off my desk.

EDIT: I tweeted this to R* support and they added it to their official support site! If you're having issues I'd recommend doing the above^^^

But it's there, mouse acceleration is enabled in the game and is creating mouse latency whether you feel it or not - People who are used to extremely snappy mouse movement feel it a whole lot more. I consider it almost unplayable right now. Problem is that most in-game AA solutions just add to the problem.

They need to get rid of that shit asap

Yea, unfortunately my Social club account predates my GAF account by a little bit and they don't allow name changes.

Cut mp3_payne_pill_rockstar_logo.bik, create new text file with same name, never see the pill Rockstar thing ever again.

I intend to try this on some of the game's single-player cinematics to see if it cuts to the game instantly.

Edit: I cut out s_clubride.bik from the same folder and loaded Checkpoint 1 of Chapter 2 and it worked perfectly. Level starts at the manager shoving the dude out of the way, then you hit enter twice and the actual action begins without any delay.

So if you want to repeat play Max Payne 3 but don't want to sit through hours of cut scenes, put s_xxxx.bik elsewhere, create fake files, and spam enter to get instantly into the action. Of course, this won't let you skip real-time in-engine cutscenes, but it will save you a ton of time.

TLDR: "Still Loading" is a complete lie. On PCs the game can start instantly following one main menu load.

Fuck. There's a trainer that works on multiplayer, infinite ammo/health :(
Other than that SP is great, MP not so much.

Awesome.

Figure out if there's a way to cut the other two splash screens as well? It doesn't seem immediately obviously which files they are in the movies folder.

Thanks for that, I replaced all the s_(name).bik files and will see how that turns out. They're not fooling anyone when it takes me a couple seconds to load into gameplay when I'm continuing from the main menu, but the cutscenes try to tell me that it's loading for the entire 5 minute duration of what I'm watching.

Who said MP3 dropped the surreal aspect? I actually don't know what the hell happened here, I was in a shootout, I did a shoot dodge, and I suddenly couldn't get back up or have any control and this happened to everyone else.

The green light washed the lies away. My whole life was just fabric, pockets hanging to my sides like bubbles.

I was pants.

Funny as Hell, it was the most horrible glitch I could think of.

They're not vid files, I know that much. They're probably just an image stored in a compressed file somewhere, or with some totally random name.

Yea, exactly, they just want you to see how great their cutscenes are, or it's just totally lazy programming carried over from the console versions. In fact, I seriously doubt that we need any .bik files whatsoever. Everything could have been in-engine and looked 20x better.

Hey all, I thought I'd make a quickfix for the cutscene skip for everyone who doesn't want to take the time to create all the fake files:

All thanks goes to Jubbly!

Sweet, thanks! Make sure to back up your original .biks incase of a patch or if Steam wants to download them again.

I tried fraps and playclaw. I was wondering what the deal was. Retail version here.

Yea, the retail version doesn't work. Steam version likely works because they had to program in Steam overlay support, hence opening it up to Fraps and everything else.

So I got my SLI issue fixed but now my FPS refuses to be locked at 58. I use nvidia inspector to limit the frames to 58 and I made sure it was set for Max Payne 3 (which it is) but MSI Afterburner shows it at above 200; I know it's working because I launched Diablo 3 and Batman: AC and it's locked at 58, any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is that since it's using DX11, something isn't transitioning well in inspector?

I've got this sucker downloading. Without having to dig through the entire thread, are there any tweaks and issues I should be aware of?

Some cool screenshots:

I get a silky smooth 60 fps with maxed out graphics and 2x MSAA. FXAA was really messing up my image quality like Sethos said. MSAA isn't perfect but it's a lot better.

Easily the best looking game I've played.

What's your rig?

Thanks guys. I'll see what kind of hit I get with MSAA. I'd prefer low level MSAA to FXAA. Texture blur from post AA drives me mental.

If you're using a mouse do NOT use the ingame sliders for anti-aliasing (both MSAA and FXAA) and instead force it via your GPU's control panel as it introduces some weird mouse lag if you use the ingame stuff. Also, make sure you keep Vsync enabled in game or the mouse sensitivity gets fubar'd.

I can force with nVidia yes yes?
