What? That's not what I'm saying at all.

It's no secret conspiracy that black people take offense to being referred to, by white people, as niggas.

HENCE the offense.

You (and jonez) got the Adele example with no help. Why not this one?

(and again, INTENT is not the point I'm trying to emphasize....I'm sure 99% of the non-racist white people who throw around the word "nigga" mean no harm, either)
But she didn't refer to them as niggas. Jay/Kanye referred to themselves as niggas in the song title. She was quoting their song title which was a description of themselves. If the song title were "Gentlemen in Paris" I'm sure she would have tweeted "Gentlemen in Paris, for real". Because the self-named Gentlemen are indeed in Paris. She didn't title the song, Jay-Z and Kanye did.

now i'm listening to niggas in paris on spotify... AND I'M WHITE... AND I WROTE THE NAME OF THE SONG IN THIS POST. o_O

I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Are you part of the 1%? Well, are ya, punk?

Laughing Banana

Weeping Pickle

Only if she whispers it... slowly... with that amazing smile of hers.......

ngggghhhhhhhhhhhh.

Anyways, holy shit what a non-topic this thing really is. Can't believe you guys actually spawning 3-4 pages worth of argument about this.

Why are you surprised knowing his track record?

As for Gwyneth, this is the wrong way to do it. Jason Alexander also committed something similar a few days ago but instead of backtracking, he admitted his mistake, explains why he said what he said, and tried to understand why it's actually offensive for the minority in question. Many people were actually impressed by the long and seemingly-heartfelt letter he posted in apology.

Also, word hurts. Words have effect. And you have no idea whether or not a word has or has not evolved in someone else's life. And if you know, why would you want to use the language if you know it can possibly hurt the feeling of someone that you know? Be it your fans, co-workers, or someone as close as your friends and family?

Probably because he saw what happened to his partner in slime, Kramer, and realized that's a career-killing mistake.

That could be true as well. But I see it from the perspective that what he wrote in that letter of apology can and hopefully will open the eyes of others who are not intentionally bigoted. Those who are just lazy and want to use whatever language they want to use. The message that he wrote in that letter was pretty spot on in explaining why the use of such language is harmful for our society and our kids in the long run.

Lazy is what you are when you declare a word offensive and then claim that intent and context is irrelevant. I find that position offensive in itself. And ten times as harmful to society and "our kids" in the long run.

Shit like this pisses me off. It's the name of the fucking song for crying the fuck out loud...

This faux outrage just makes sincere complaints about the use of that offensive word in our society seem devalued.

She is way pass her prime and already got an Oscar, why does she care if some PC-type tightass want to throw a fit? I wouldn't care.

white "outrage" on not being allowed to say the n-word is hilarious. There are plenty of words I can't say and I don't give a shit. They say "bitch" a lot in rap music too, doesn't mean I go around calling females that. Maybe I should cry about reverse-sexism for not being able to indiscriminately say the b-curse. Oh poor me I am a man who's rights have been trampled, its so hard being a man in this PC society WAAAAAAAAH /cries.
Wait Gwyneth Paltrow is friends with Jay-Z and The Dream? Huh..
Gwyneth n Beyonce are BFFs. Both couples hang out like a muthafucka and have done so for years. I am sure Gwyneth has talked about race w/them before etc... In fact I can comfortably bet my life's savings that Gwyneth has a much higher "race IQ" and is more racially aware/sympathetic/understanding than the average GAF'er.

lol did not know she knew Ty Ty and Beehigh.
Probably a bunch of white folks who are mad that Gwyneth used it but they aren't "allowed." Aspiring racists need to get blown.
Hahahahahah, yes!

This reads like "if whites can't do it, then it's off the table gotdammit!!" lol .

Perhaps this shows that we are at the cusp of some racial harmony. As a society we have gone from being offended by slavery, to separate but equal, to lynching, to police breaking out fire hoses on blacks in the 50's and 60's to the point where the only thing people really get upset about is when white people use a word that is used almost exclusively by the black community.

I won't even make the argument that white people should use the word, but unless they are using it in a blatantly derogatory fashion, it's not worth giving the race-baiters fodder to debate over.

If black people can say the N word to their friends and family, so can white people.
I think white people should flat out revolt and use the word freely until black people wise up and realize it's rainbow coalition level offensive.

As a white person, it is a little annoying that if I want to use a word like 'niggas' I'd have to say 'ninjas' and be associated with white trash. I like Kanye and Jay-Z, not ICP.

White bitch tries to be cool and fails. I see nothing to really to be offended about here. The only response should be 'lolwhitepeople.gif' and move on to something actually relevant.

I'm not offended by her tweet since it's the name of the song, but I refer to the song as 'Paris' in mixed company, and I think most people (especially white people) should too, to avoid drama like this.

Is it wrong when I went to see them last week with another white friend I sang along? The black folks in front of us didn't seem to care, in fact we got talking to them and they said it was funny that we used it because they thought we might be scared to. But we just a couple of pimps, no hoes
