are black people even mad about this?

i just feel like this is RE5 all over again, where most black people were like ... whatever ... and people just targeted N'gai and that black female blogger whose name escapes me at the moment.

well, at least before we saw the grass skirt spear chuckers anyway...
I'm not mad. And about the RE5 thing, I was more shocked about there being more than 2 black characters in the same game, even if they were there just to get shot up a whole lot.

Calm down dear, I'VE never heard of the song. Okay kid. We ALL don't live in the US you know.

Plus I was fucking joking...

You may follow people on twitter all bloody day, I do not.

First, the concert was in Europe so apparently people outside of the USA knew of the song and artist. Second, I didn't need twitter to know about the song since it's been all over the radio, internet, and music stores for almost a year.

I understood that you had never heard it before, but claiming it was viral marketing wasn't the right term, since that would have been done when the single was released to get it attention.

It's probably not the kind of music you like, so there's no reason for you to have heard it.

So tired of black people acting like the word makes their soul burn. It's the title of a song, get the fuck over it you bitter, bitter people. Always willing to pull the victim card at the drop of a dime

I, for once, agree with phoenix dark on this...

Unless my assumption is wrong, the majority of outrage is coming from white people. Probably people who don;t really understand the concept of racism and lack racial sensitivity who have made the binary decision that the N-word is only to be used by black people and people who are racist.

People who don't understand context.

To me as a white person, it is sad that this word creates a barrier between black culture and the rest of the world.

I expected Gwyneth's pics or something in this thread, stop failing GAF!!!!

If you keep people outraged over stupid shit, it makes building bridges that much harder. They don't want unity, they want segmentation and chaos.

you people

chaos

*i don't think its segmentation and chaos if they get itchy over a word that obviously has a little more weight than many can even bother to describe. i do think that people need to chill - but its hard when so many things prod you on regular basis, its easy to get into the mindset of "here we fucking go again"

Considering how shit Kanye and Jay Z's music is today - it's no surprise that fucking Gweneth Paltrow is on stage with them.

Un-freaking-believable people are on here defending this. I never expected her to stoop this low. Can't believe she's friends with The Dream. As for her saying Niggas.....eh, don't really care personally. But I understand

If black people can say the N word to their friends and family, so can white people.

And what would that have to do with a celebrity saying it to millions of people?

Saying it?

Its the name of the song

this is like... one of the few, clear, and obvious cases where there is absolutely nothing wrong at all.

Quit it lol. You gotta be kidding. Its the name of the damn song bruh.

I'm black and I don't use the word casually but this is really one of those times where she does not need to be vilified.

This goes against everything I've heard about black people hivemind thought linking.

Interesting...

And I was just curious why Measly equated friends and family with a celebrity Twitter page. I'm constipated about this 'issue' personally.

Would it make a difference?

When she hops on twitter and says "LOL NIGGAS" then sure. That isn't what happened though. The black performers of the song "Niggas in Paris" performed "Niggas in Paris" while in Paris.

It was cray.

I like how almost no one in the thread is even "entertaining" the Dream's explanation of using Gwyneth Paltrow's phone.

Given the context, I don't even see whats the problem. a white personcould be reading Huckleberry fin out loud in class and I couldn't even get mad and the context there isn't even the same as using the n word as a term of endearment.

Niggas in paris...for real.

She referenced black men as niggas. Its a goof up on her part because she has to be more PC.

Song about black guys in Paris. She then says, yup they are right here in front of me. She wont be losing any future work over it though.

Absolutely it would make a difference. Of course, I was speaking in general terms to Measly. I don't personally have an issue with this particular instance.

But it's the name of the book!

edit: I barely know who she is.
smoking really expensive weed with really expensive black people doesn't necessarily convey 'nigga privileges' though. I didn't have time to get my license renewed, so I almost had mine revoked.

You see, THATS how you are supposed to do PC. Paltrow didnt do this. Now we have this thread.

Simple...

When said black men, use the word so cavalierly, even titling their song and referring to themselves as niggas, I don't see a problem. I don't think there's much of a highground to even get outraged over. This is some straight onion grade bullshit.

I'm not endorsing white people using the word whenever the fuck they want in public with impunity, but this is well...just kinda dumb.

If Chris rock tweeted it would that make a difference?

Just a bit of melanin is what makes it acceptable or wrong to people.

Just drop the word entirely

Easier said than done, a lot of people for example can make self deprecating humor at their and people who look like they do's expense and it be exceptable. While the N word is on another level, it's not like people have a monthly black council meeting to discuss these kinda things.

Why was a single, solitary f**k given?

Even if she did purposefully tweet that and it wasn't the name of the song? So what? Do we honestly think that Gwyneth is a racist? I mean really? She is hanging out with Jay-Z, Kanye and The Dream!

She should be allowed to say the word if she damn well pleases (Nigga, not nigger). It's a word used everyday by millions of people. We need to get over it. The word only gives us as much power as we let it and if we go all up in arms every time someone says the word then we are just empowering it.

I thought that someone else tweeted that from her phone on her account? I could have sworn that was in the OP.

Edit: Yep, I was right.

Producer The Dream (real name Terius Nash) leapt to Paltrow's defense as well. "FYI, sorry for the confusion. I typed 'N----- in Paris for real' from Gwen's phone, my bad," he tweeted about his concert-going experience. "Please excuse it! We were lit."

Also, its the name of the song. No reason to get upset.
