I really hoping Gabe isn't counted as one of the 3 Belmonts.
one of the most things im excited about from E3.How could people say this game looks horrible ? Are they mad ? I mean at worse, it's a good game.

David Cox tempering expectations regarding the 3DS game.
Several times he says "we have not gone metroidvania", but he also they've taken criticism to heart and have added exploration elements to both Mirror of Fate and LOS2, that there will be backtracking and such and have a more open world nature. So that's a bit contradictory with "we have not gone metroidvania!". Weird.
I can't wait. I just hope graphically they understand there are games like Revelations out there.
Man, I'm not saying that there's no valid basis for criticizing MoF or that I'm certain it'll be a flawless masterpiece, but after watching all the gameplay footage, it still looks quite promising to me. It's hard to shake the impression that a lot of people are hating this for not being another Igavania, rather than for what it actually is.
I think it's the most promising sidescroller-style CV since Symphony of the Night. The gameplay looks great and the castle looks like it's going to be a hell of a lot of fun to explore. I also like the more grounded art direction. It looks like a darker, more sinister place IMO.

Re: Mirror of Fate - "It's not a level-based game... it's one continuous journey through the castle... the layout, in terms of level design, is very similar to a Metroidvania-style game." Seems pretty unambiguous.

Boring combat with stylish combos and enemies that dies only after one hundred hits.
QTEs in 2D.
Automatic whip swinging.
Bad enemy placement.
Framerate dips with many enemies on the screen.
Being LoS (that's just a personal problem).
Bosses being both boring and having bad patters to it.
The character looks like a rock jumping, but only playing I would know if it's really stiff.
The platforming, when not whip swinging, looks good enough. The graphics aren't bad too. I just don't like the things I listed up there. I was giving this a chance, despite not liking LoS at all. But it doesn't look good at all.
I completely agree.
Most of the things you complain about (combat, hundred hits, enemy placement, bosses, patterns, jumping feeling, etc.) make it seem like you played it. Did you?
Honestly, your comment about "being LoS" (plus your previous replies in this thread) give the impression of bias against the game.
I think you should wait until the game gets closer to its release date.
We don't need to play it to get a feel that standard enemies have to much life when we can watch videos and see Trevor stopping in his tracks and whipping them for what seems like a longer amount then needed.
One of the big parts of the Metroidvania style games was keeping flow and movement going. This is why even pretty early unless you are doing a low lvl run or sticking to weak weapons you get into a pace where most enemies tend to die very quickly and backtracking and so forth isn't an issue.
Could this be the case in MoF? Possible, that poster didn't even say it wasn't but the amount of attacks that standard enemies take is unsettling.

which is sad because it had some great designs. The PSP Castlevania was an exceptional ugly game.

yeah, its actually my favorite. Also, gameplay wise, it was very good.
Are you kidding me man? Did you not watch the gameplay videos? All of my complaints can be seen on the video. And I doubt that, outside the framerate, these will be changed on the final build.
So let me get this straight: Trevor is Gabriel and Marie's son? They had a child we never heard about in the first Los? Isn't that a little... convenient?
so... is the music classic CV or the 100% anonymous hollywood background stuff from LoS?
in the trailer dude tells Marie not to tell Gabriel about him.So let me get this straight: Trevor is Gabriel and Marie's son? They had a child we never heard about in the first Los? Isn't that a little... convenient?

What's the difference between QTEs in 2D and QTEs in 3D?
Dawn of Sorrow for the exploration, Order of Ecclesia for the difficulty. That's actually reminds me: which was the best DS Castlevania?
Sold. Also, Gamespot demo with NO LAG http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=gUFOq0bxU8Y
Were there QTEs in the demo?QTE's are pretty common to be hated, and to have them in a 2D sidescroller just takes the stupidness of them to a whole new level.
Well, at least that is what it is for me, they may have a different reason.
So it is a Metroidvania for sure? Fuck. Like we haven't had a hundred of those.
Hey, I don't mind them trying to replicate Classicvania (Metroidvania has been done to death so to speak), but I agree with you that the music just sounds too generic. I'm begging MercurySteam to start picking up riffs of the old game at one point. I mean, you can't have Castlevania without Vampire Killer.I will probably buy this despite I hate everything it stands for... but it kinda looks like a nice plattforming action adventure thing.
but calling it castlevania is like a wooden stake through my heart... there is nothing what I'd consider castlevania about it... bland music, bland environments...
I am gonna play it, I'll probably even like it a bit, but for sure I will flame nintendos survey for bringing me the wrong "castlevania" game.
I really need to replay ooe now, to flush that bitter feel
Great interview with Dave Cox in which he confirms the game is more Dracula's Curse than Symphony of the Night.

Were there QTEs in the demo?
Or is he mean the finishing move?
WHOAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Edit: wait a minute
He says 'I doesn't want to compare it to Metroidvania because it's not a Metroidvania game, but the layout in terms of level design is very similar to a Metroidvania'
And he talks about backtracking
WTF
Sold.

Assy. =(Simple answer: He's flipflopping since he wants to appeal to fans of the Metroidvania (read: Igarashi) branch and also to those who are tired of that style.
More nuanced answer: It's Metroidvania in level-structure, LoS in combat and character (health/damage) progression.
The only thing it's not, is Classicvania.
