I bet the supposedly friendly prometheans are the ones responsible for taking out that charging Elite at the beginning of the demo.

Hm. Would be interesting if that was the case, I was thinking the blue ones may be friendly.

But then I kinda thought it would be too predictable (blue good, red bad)

If it makes you feel better I couldn't give two shits what you think, so please spare the rest of the thread from your boring meta posts about me. Thank you in advance!

Couldn't give two shits.

Blerg, the fighting is still happening? I think it would be best if Hydra and Kyle didn't go after ea---

Nevermind, I enjoy it. Carry on, carry on.

in the E3 build it knocks you off your shot, but leaves scope in. Like lots of gameplay we are still tuning.

I was thinking about this post on the way home.

One of the reasons I like Halo so much is because it doesn't interfere with player's clarity and control, or their ability to aim and maneuver, in the interest of feedback or balance measures. No rasberry jam, no ADS, no shaking targeting reticule to interfere. Just very clean combat.

With that said, there are two related things going on.

The first is that players in Reach get pinged from very long range by the DMR, which require them to go in scope to fire back. And of course, getting pinged pulls you out of scope.

The other is that the DMR has a 3x scope, which enables users to ping players from very long range.

Now, I can only speak from my own experience. But I have the problem I described earlier - getting knocked in and out of scope constantly during DMR battles, in a frustrating loop of zoom/unzoom/zoom/unzoom - much more often in Reach than in previous Halo games. I think the reason for this is because players can tag me from so far away, I have almost no chance to land a shot on them unless I'm scoped. This was much less of a problem in previous Halo games. I'm not saying I never got in that loop before - I did - but that it's a much worse problem in Reach than in other games.

That creates a gameplay problem to solve, somehow. From your post it sounds like two solutions are on the table: don't have players get knocked out of scope, but have them get "knocked off their shot". That gets rid of the zoom/unzoom loop, but I submit that such solutions do not actually address the problem.

The problem is the 3x scope on the DMR, which is what enables players to ping others from so far away, and which requires those getting pinged to go into scope in order to fire back. Knock the DMR back to 2x, and the problem will be substantially mitigated. I won't say solved, because it can still happen. But greatly mitigated, because players will simply have to be closer in order to hit you, and you won't have to absolutely, positively go into scope to return fire.

It will also make the game better because enabling players to tag others from the 3x scope DMR in Reach is a bad thing. (I won't regurgitate the few thousand words I've put into that topic any further.)

Please consider this.

Just a really random post by me to stir the pot.
That was my question for the 343i mp team! :p

edit-

offtopic:

finished uniting my PC setup with my HDTV setup by putting them next to each other and hooking up an hdmi cable from the pc to the tv. I can just switch effortlessly between playing PC games in "PC mode" (desk, keyb+mouse, monitor) or "Console mode" (comfy couch, big hdtv, wireless xbox controller). Feels great to chill back on the couch with an high fidelity 1080p/60fps "console" game! Also, I need to remember to buy Halo 2.

I don't really understand where the 3x scope DMR complaints are coming from. It's almost never an issue on most maps. Maybe on BTB maps it can occasionally be annoying, but if you're being outplayed by a person who is better positioned and zoomed in, don't keep running a suicide train out into the open.

I think the DMR is practically perfect in Reach. Fast firing rate, no bloom, no spread, hitscan, can hit people at long distance. It's very satisfying.

Oh it's just Daedalius calling out people who complain about Halo 4 again, nothing big.

I have no problem with critical and substantive criticism; assumptions and hyperbole from people who haven't played the game are not critical or substantive.

Not to mention they are still tuning things, and I'm usually pretty optimistic.

Hyperbole aggravates me.

People will be mad that they'll be on one of those huge ass maps and have no means of touching somebody they see other than getting the sniper rifle. Also, the DMR would have to be rebalanced against the BR.

This problem isn't as distressing to me because if I get shot first and I don't immediately know who's engaging me or their whereabouts, then I bug out and grab some cover. No real point to me trying to stay out in the open, engaging somebody who is up a few shots on me. At least with how things stand currently in Reach.

Still pushing headshot descope. That's my solution.

Yes.

Kyle and bigshow are either the same person or lovers, I can't decide which yet.

The two loudest and most vitriolic voices that also haven't played the game at all.

What does playing it have to do with anything? I dont make it a habit to wear sundresses but I know it'd be pretty awesome regardless.

Experience isn't neccesary when posting projected thoughts.

You don't bitch randomly at the people praising the game that haven't played it yet, so why do you need to bitch about the people who dispraise it and havent played it? Huh!? HUH!

Hopefully the blue=good dynamic is indeed there. Would really help to get inside the heads of whatever kinds of beings the prometheans are, since so far I've seen them as lacking in the charisma dept, at least compared to the Covies.

I really believe this is the case, we have a trilogy to work with here and I would bet that it will be dealing with the same antagonist/enemies. A "good" side of the "enemy" is pretty much a given. Just like Arbiter and the Engineer.

What if the blue ones are under Cortana's control. :-O

I don't know about anyone else but I am praising the idea of the proposed changes. The idea of putting a hotdog in the crust of a pizza sounds awesome to me. Have I tried it? Nope, not available in my region. I can think of reasons why it'll taste like shit. I can also tink as to why it could taste good. I mostly think of the good as I kind of like crazy shit like that and mixing stuff. Am I praising the final product? Nope. Not now anyway. Just praising the ideas that are coming our way in a few months.

So I'm interested in reading the Halo books that are related to Halo 4.

Anyone mind telling me which book I should start with?

This was not a problem in Halo 1, 2 or 3. If you couldn't tag someone, you were too far away. The game plays better without everyone having a mini-sniper rifle.

Also, the DMR would have to be rebalanced against the BR.
No, not really. By virtue of the BR having bullet spread and the DMR firing a single round (which is more powerful than the individual BR rounds), it would still be much more effective at range than the BR.

This problem isn't as distressing to me because if I get shot first and I don't immediately know who's engaging me or their whereabouts, then I bug out and grab some cover. The problem is distressing to me because the DMR prevents large swaths of maps from becoming playable, and creates many long-range pingfests.

The DMR basically halts all infantry movement on BTB maps, the range is way too long. What you get is a game of cross map whack a mole.

I know and thats fine. Praise that idea, it might be delicious. If someone thinks that sounds like shit thats fine too.

Its not fine to bitch about one of those sides opinions and saying they haven't even tried it yet, while not bitching about the other sides opinion that ALSO haven't tried it yet.
