The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

I guess I should have looked a little harder, eh? Though I'm not really sure which option I should disable, but I'll mess around with it!

Will be back with results!

If it was me I would start with the "disable chroma preset". That can sometimes net around 5fps. SSAO is a major performance killer so using the preset to disable that can net huge gains. DOF is probably a medium-ish performance killer depending on the system, so disabling it completely or certain features can get good gains too.

All these are available in the optional preset folder. Just copy any of the files (overwrite when needed) within the appropriate folder to the main skyrim dir to get the desired effect.

I tried the "No SSAO" one, and didn't really help much, I'll try the Chromatic one now.

Don't think I want to disable the DOF one though, I like it too much. :p

Still no go. I even tried changing resolution and I couldn't squeeze any more frames out. Thinking it's my shitty CPU. The Althon II just ain't what it used to be...

Did you copy just the enbseries.ini file or the No SSAO folder? Make sure just to copy enbseries.ini and overwrite the existing one, Because if you are having performance issues that should give a big boost in performance on most, if not all systems.

You mean URWL? As a warning that mod doesn't really play well with any ENB everything gets too dark.

Maybe, Im not sure. I heard about some mod on a podcast, but I listen to a lot of them, and cant remember which one, haha.

I guess who ever does the realistic dark cave mod, also did one for Morrowind. They made it sound like it was a really popular mod on Nexus, but I couldnt find it last night, I think the better stealth mod was separate. I might have to just listen to all my podcasts again, haha.

I dunno what ENB is either, but im sure I can google that easily enough :p

Edit: I should say, that I think it had more to do with them removing all the candles and other bullshit that wouldnt be in some of these caves, or atleast wouldnt have been lit. Rather than a mod that changes a lot of the actually lighting in the game.

Might be this - Realistic Lighting With Customization

Heard about it from this thread, not sure about any connections to Morrowind

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I put the files in two locations, not sure which one to put the files in. When I brought over new configs, I'd put then only in the skyrim/Skyrim directory.

Got it tweaked to run at a pretty constant 30FPS. If it does drop, it only drops to about 24, which is totally okay in my book. It does look a little blurry, since I'm using FXAA, but when played on my TV it looks just fine.

I'd say it ain't bad at all for a ~$60 video card!

It's a small compromise imo, because it only looks off at noon and specifically in that city, other times or in open fields it isn't that visible.

Do you have DoF always on? That's a huge no, I want to see the world I'm exploring, not a blurry mess. The only appropriate DoF settings I ever leave turned on in mods like these are those that quickly adapt to objects that are very close to you and can then quickly disappear when it's not in the middle of your screen anymore. imo, of course.

I lowered it so that it's subtle (like in the screenshot) unless you look at something very close.

If you want it OFF unless you look at something, lower fFocusBias in the prepass file to something like 0.030 (I have it at 0.050).

I'm trying to increase the brightness to make it day time appropriate, while also decreasing the dof. Would like to know what you guys think.

This is around noon game time

I'd say the first shots look better, second ones are too bright.

Btw is the DoF always on like that in the distance? Looks pretty

EDIT: I guess you answered that question with the above post :p

If you don't really care about breaking realism and just want to be able to always sell everything you want there's this mod http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2681. It gives all vendors a very large sum of gold that you can actually adjust when you install the mod. If you still want to keep some semblance of realism these two mods work fairly well in conjunction http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8169 and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8502. The first add anywhere from 100g to 1000g to the vast majority of vendors in the world depending on their location and the type of stock they have and the second gives vendors more loot and gold as you do more business with them.

Thanks. Had a good luck around, and ended up trying Economics of Skyrim.

It allows you choose from presets how much more gold vendors now have, but goes further, and varies prices and products by region. So in Whiterun, the smith by the city gate now sells armour and weapons he did not before, but at higher prices. If I go to another city, they could specialise in light armour, making any heavy armour sold relatively more expensive. The creator seems to have given a lot of thought into what should be available and where. The main thing is that I don't feel like I have too much money anymore.

Wow, L0st Id3ntity, those shots look gorgeous. Seeing those screens of yours have finally convinced me to delve into the great unknown which, for me, are the ENB mods. There is only one problem. I'm not a real hardcore PC gamer/modder and applying the ENB mods always put me off, cause it was too technical. I have, however, succesfully managed to apply ordinary mods via the Nexus Mod Manager, so there is hope. Basically, I was wondering if there is a newbie guide for people like me who want to make their game look like your screenies with ENB?

I wasn't aware this mod existed. I'll probably give it a look over once I'm done with my SkyRe play through. Thanks for bringing it to my attention looks well made.

Just copy and paste these files into the game's directory: http://www.mediafire.com/?uv32juz2332w0rr

Very simple. The main enb file is made by the one modder, who updates it periodically.
http://enbdev.com/index_en.html

The ENB mods you see on Nexus just take this dll file, and create custom presets for it, to achieve different styles/visuals.

A lot of the ENB mods you download won't contain this single dll file above, but will link to it in their description. Just copy the dll file and the ENB setting files (from Nexus) into the main Skyrim folder in Program Files. There might be a couple of files to be copied into the 'Data' folder also. If you want to kill the ENB, just delete the dll and other pieces you copied over.

Some ENBs may also recommend you change a few settings in the ini files in the Skyrim folder in My Documents- remember to make a back up of these before changing them.

I was amazed too. I modded Oblivion a lot, and that was a often a pain in the arse. I never even bothered with the DOF and lighting mods for that when they were eventually created since I assumed ti would be a lot of hassle.

Having the Nexus mod manager and easy ENB installs (plus Steam Workshop) has been fantastic.

Fantastic! I just switched to your ENB preset and I'm really loving it :) here are some pictures I just took

Originally I expected to take only a pic of my archer, had some fun in the end :)

Normally when I look at PC versions of games I have on console I think "yeah, that looks better", but this made me go "daaaaaaaamnnn." Hoping to pick up Skyrim in the eventual Steam sale now.

Hey guys, are there any good hair mods?

Also, I'd post screenshots, but my screen is messed up in one way or another, so I can only get a res as high as 1024x768. So I'm not sure how all of you would feel about these sub-hd shots.

man these enb settings are probably the best i've used. Only thing is I need to figure out how to tone down the bright ness....looks good so far

ApachiiSkyHair Is by far the most popular hair mod and if somebody has hair in a screen that doesn't come standard with the game odds are it came from there. I'd suggest just going here and sorting by endorsements since what hair models one person like may be totally different from what somebody else likes. I for example hate every single hair mod out there, becasue they just don't look right to me. I fairly picky about textures in general.

Wow that is looking fantastic! So these are all the files I need, just copy to the data directory? I don't need to download the standalone enb file I presume from the creators page? Should the realistic lighting mod be removed before installing this or do they work together?

Yeah you can just drop it into the Skyrim directory. Realistic lighting mod will still work, but odds are night time and interiors will be way too dark. Its an issue that you will run into with the most ENB configs and lighting mods.

True Vision ENB" is a great looking enb as well. I believe it was based on confidenceman's setup if i recall correctly. Is that correct confidenceman?

Still one of my favorite enb's of all time was Opethfeldt's 4.X enb. Only problem was that it used the old 1.02 tatsudoshi so the grass was screwed up after bethesda's grass shadow implementation.

I tried a couple of ENB profiles. Don't like the look at all. All that post-processing just makes the game blurry and shiny. I like how skin looks, but other than that, I prefer vanilla. It doesn't help that it tanks fps.

Better Vampires is hands down the best vampire mod on the nexus. If you're pissed that PC gamers cant play Dawnguard yet then I highly recommend this mod. Its highly customizable also with a bunch of different options. The creator also updates it almost every other week. Check it out.

So I thought I'd upload my low res shots anyway, as I feel somewhat accomplished with some of them.

I have more, just on Steam. I just started using both F12 and Print Screen to get my shots.

I tried both L0st Id3ntity & TheForceWithin settings:-

L0st Id3ntity's is to blurry for my liking which is weird as his pictures look great but moving around was a blur fest, was too much. Did look great for a cinematic approach but everyday gaming not so much.

I really liked TheForceWithin settings, moving around was great as it did not feel like I was racing around in blur mode and his use of dof was to my liking.

Just one problem though, I get these god rays problems where the sun is meant to be while I did not get that problem with L0st Id3ntity settings.

Does anyone know what that could be?
