Gunman kills twelve at theater in Aurora Colorado

Get the fuck out of here with this. What sense does it make to ban someone over something as trivial as that. No one is saying that these parents deserved to lose their children over it.

We can discuss more than one thing at once, people. Telling people to shut up and calling for bans is ridiculous.

That said, I don't think there's anything wrong with kids at a midnight showing, as long as they keep their mouths shut, of course. Baby's on the other hand... Where the fuck is your consideration for the other moviegoers.

People are outright calling out the parents for taking their kids to the movie. If you can't see the obvious issue with that during this time, then whatever.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
Shooter was a Buffalo.

Damnit more.

Makes sense, seeing as where he lived.

smart enough? why give the guy credit like that........?

Really?

I'm not singing the guy's praises. He was in med school and set up sophisticated boobytraps according to the FBI. He is obviously intelligent. Chill the hell out.

They just wanted to watch Batman. They just wanted to watch Batman...for some reason that makes me extra sad about this. Taking the lives of people involved in such a simple pursuit of joy and entertainment.
I've felt the same way today. Obviously no-one should be shot anywhere but somehow mixing this tragedy with a popular entertainment movie makes it feel worse.

I remember being pretty skeptical about my friend bringing his 1-month old to the midnight screening of Revenge of the Sith, but she ended up sleeping through the whole thing like an angel. Anyway, criticism of taking kids to a movie is misplaced in this scenario. Who ever imagines there will be a gunman waiting for them at the multiplex?

Listen, people keep talking about Colorado's Death Penalty.

Colorado has executed 1 person since 1977.

I just don't see that this guy gets a quick execution.

Oh no, this guy is going to be put out more than zimmerman. The media and whoever can get interviews with him are going to drag this out for a while.

Wow, death was really out to get Jessica Redfield.

A terrible tragedy. I hope all victims involved recover from their physical and mental trauma.

I think it was a different victim who was at the Toronto shooting and blogged about it, Jessica was tweeting up to 20 minutes before the shooting.

Uh, because he was a med school student who staged an elaborate massacre and rigged his apartment with deadly booby traps they are still trying to disarm safely?

Evil and intelligence are not mutually exclusive, sadly.

I need to stop watching the news before we get to the inevitable NRA nut that says "If everyone was armed, he wouldn't have been able to kill so many."

Saw on Huffington Post a quote from the guy's mother: "Yep, you've got the right person." Not sure if that means she's aware that it's her son who did this, or that she expected him to do something this heinous.

This. Misplaced is the nice way of saying insensitive and offensive.

It has nothing to do with the kid making noise. Your kid can damage their ears being in a loud action movie. They can get sick being in a confined space with strangers . Seriously its not the greatest idea.

Arggh this is frustrating. People keep slinging accusations without facts.

wow.

not just the incident, which i'm processing on my own, but the way most of you seem to be using it as an excuse to jump down each other's throats, bickering over every little piece of ground surrounding the incident. fuck the internet...not a very good place for discussion or processing of events.

Need to start putting metal detectors in places like this. Sounds like the guy was probably just disgruntled hope he gets the death penalty.

Why take chances tho?

It's not much of a chance. You're never going to stop people that want to kill others, only the weapon of choice would change. Just look at the crazy sarin gas attack in Japan in 1995. Still, people that use rare random tragedies like this to push a political agenda are just sad.

Actually, fully automatic rifles are legal to own in Colorado.

Maybe so, but I'm betting the source of the tear gas has them more cheaply. I'm also guessing a 24 year old wouldn't normally be able to afford them through legal channels. Especially one that just quit med school.

Opened it, he did this DURING the film, not after as was reported this morning, it's assumed (again assumed because we have no 100% information) that he or someone opened the door (someone said that the guy who opened it was on his phone and walking out to answer a call) and then geared up, threw the gas, and started shooting.

OK that's plausible

Seriously, I was like Outside > Inside into a theater is an arduous task
If he was present, then went out, left door unlocked, yeah =/

Fuck >_>

My brother and cousin are going to see it in IMAX in Deer Park, NY this afternoon, gonna be tight security all around
Freaky to me, that the movie theater used to be such a soft security blanket
[I was invited, but I'll go see it tomorrow, but that back of your head feeling will be on everyone's mind]

There was a shooting at the Eaton's center here in Canada. One of the person's that was at the Eaton's shooting was at the theater in Colarado. She was fatally shot.

That is just some incredibly terrible luck. Like I don't think I can go around saying I'm cursed with bad luck anymore, because the odds of that happening has to be so damn low it's near impossible. I feel bad over this whole thing.

Why the fuck are they:

1. Holding a press conference outside the home of the suspect, which houses innocent people. Will be attacked within hours. Ridiculous.
2. Publicising the address of the place/details of the suspect. Reprisal attacks?

People keep bringing this up, and I think it's important that we give the mother the benefit of the doubt until we know more about the family. It could be something as innocuous as a bizarre farewell letter she received from him this morning that didn't make any sense until after the massacre.

First of all it wouldn't have helped (he came in through the exit), second of all I really don't need the TSA at every damn public place in America.

Ultimately, this incident is just the product of living in a sick society with lax gun laws. It’s not the first and it definitely won’t be the last. The way your media covers such events only inspires more people to commit such crimes.

I think the discussion of "is bringing a 6 year old to a midnight showing" is perfectly reasonable, but it doesn't belong in this thread.

I have tickets for a 7:15 show, I'm planning on getting there around 5:30-5:45 to prepare for extra security measures.

It's one of multiple bullet points. It's the first thing that popped into my head when I heard a 3 month old was killed. I was wondering why anyone would bring an infant to the movies when that's pretty much the douchiest thing you can do. No one likes crying babies or kids.

I'm clearly not the only person bewildered by this. Asking for bans is already a pretty lame thing to do, but over a simple discussion? Super lame. PEACE.

It's events like this that should wake up America to start looking into gun laws...

Sad how these events will continue to happen because it's so easy to get hold of firearms...

This has nothing to do with gun laws.

My heart goes out to the victims and their families, this is frightening indeed.

Or possibly that she was merely commenting on the fact that that person was indeed her son, not someone else with the same name.

We like to think that in the United States we are safe from attacks like these, but the truth is, if someone wants to kill a bunch of people and they're intelligent enough to come up with a workable plan, they'll probably be able to succeed. The reason we don't have daily suicide bombings or other kinds of frequent incidents you're always hearing about in the Middle East is because our society is relatively stable and people are happier over here, or at least less of them find reasons to carry out such acts. But it's not like we have magic force fields everywhere preventing anyone from doing anything.
