FIVE buildings around the apartment complex have also been completely evacuated. He's got some incredibly desctructive shit rigged up in his apartment.

It MIGHT not be as bad as we're being led to believe. Latest video shows firefighters pulling apart a window. I think if they were worried it were going to blow, they'd have the bomb squad on the ladder, trying to get into the 3rd story building.

I took my 6 year old daughter to The Avengers, early this summer. While she liked it, parts of it were scary for her. I couldn't imagine taking her to the DK, simply because it is considerably more realistically violent. I can completely understand taking your 6 year old to a movie like this because it is Batman. The main issue I would have with it that it's no longer cartoony violence. Each to his own, and I'm not one to tell other parents how to do their job.

I took my 11yr old to see the Avengers and saw several 5-8yr olds there with parents. I'm guessing after
Loki stabs 3 people through the chest
they considered leaving. I heard a few parents consoling their kids during the scarier partsand saying they will watch the movie first next time. It seems today's violent PG13 movies start at R and cut till they skim by at PG13.

The email I have just received is so god damn absurd that this must be shared, so it's story time. Every word of this is the most absolute truth.

I live in Aurora, Colorado. Being a GameFAQs moderator who is bound to see a ton of TDKR spoilers, I decided to see it as quickly as possible to avoid having it spoiled for me. Thus, I went to the midnight showing at the Century 16 that's two blocks from my apartment.

You may have heard about what happened here.

Long story short, I somehow got out without a scratch. I've got a skinned knee from hitting the floor, and eventually low crawling the hell out of there when the shooting stopped. The guy two seats to the right of me was shot in the head, and probably died instantly.

I gave my written and spoken statements to the police and got to go home at about 3AM after a hell of a lot of confusion. I've been watching the news ever since.

About an hour ago, I got an email received notification, and just looked at it in shock when I saw the title. It was an automated email message.

From: Fandango
Title: How did you like The Dark Knight Rises?

Fandango sent automated messages asking people how they liked the movie they were watching when some psychopath shot the place up. I wish I was making any of this up, but this is the deity of your choice's honest truth here. Boggles the f***ing mind.

I need a vacation.

Is he serious about the Fandango thing or is that just a little levity? It's just an automated message. Sure, would have been a nice thought if they disabled it but they can't be blamed really.

Please shut the fuck up.

Any discussion criticizing parents over this should be auto perma ban.

LOL, why are you so butt hurt.

In most circumstances, I wouldn't bring a 6 year old to a midnight screening of a gritty Batman film, but that's not to say it's strictly forbidden. I wouldn't criticise the parents or guardians if they made a responsible decision - there's no evidence they were irresponsible and nobody is blaming them for what has happened.

On the other hand I would never, ever bring a 3 month old to a movie theatre. Not only would it be rude and terrible for the other patrons if the baby ends up screaming, but the sound can be pretty darn loud. Pretty sure there's a reasonable possibility it'd do damage to their hearing.

Again, not blaming anybody but the shooter for what happened. Just commenting on the fact that a 3 month old was taken to a movie theatre at all.

Makes you wonder what happened to make him snap.

I mean you go from pursuing a doctorate in NEUROSCIENCE to throwing your life away. Also seems like he came from an upper-middle class family in San Diego.

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

BTW, anyone who thinks this guy could have been stopped by some lady with a hand gun in her purse is living in a fantasy land.

Do you think it could be something related to poor performance and the thought of disappointment and failure. Situations like this happen all the time around the world. Usually however it's just suicide but there are alot of people who lose it when they can't "make their family" proud and do stupid shit out of disappointment and failure.

We like to think that in the United States we are safe from attacks like these, but the truth is, if someone wants to kill a bunch of people and they're intelligent enough to come up with a workable plan, they'll probably be able to succeed. The reason we don't have daily suicide bombings or other kinds of frequent incidents you're always hearing about in the Middle East is because our society is relatively stable and people are happier over here, or at least less of them find reasons to carry out such acts. But it's not like we have magic force fields everywhere preventing anyone from doing anything.

Yup. This is why a lot of the extra security measures used since 9/11 (especially the TSA crap) are bullshit and simply give people a false sense of security/safety. Shootings and terrorist attacks can happen anywhere.

Dunno, they are apparently saying it could take days to safely disarm everything. Supposedly they broke the windows so they could get a camera on a rod to take more pictures of different angles and shit from the inside where things are rigged.

Tom Sullivan , holds a photograph of his son, Alex Sullivan, as he pleads with the media to help him find his son, outside Gateway High School on Friday, July 20, 2012 in Aurora, Colo. Alex Sullivan, was celebrating his 27th birthday by attending midnight premiere of the Batman movie Friday night.

Very sad.

Understandable. It'd truly come down to the individual child. My young nephews would be fine in that movie, my nieces would be scared.

I think regardless of the movie, if it's a late movie, it's a "cool" thing for kids. It's past their bed time, it's something fun, etc. etc. I don't think a parent should be blamed for that.

The discussion was clearly inappropriate. After a tragedy it's not in good form to start blaming victims for small mistakes. Imagine this was a rape would you be going "Why is a drunk woman out on her own at midnight" etc. You don't, It's wrong.
This is a catch-all thread. Should someone make a separate thread asking why an infant was at the showing? It's not inappropriate as a good number of people all thought the same thing. It may not be pertinent to you, but that's just you. Frankly, I'd ask why a drunk woman was our at midnight by herself too. You can't just ignore all the circumstances involved just because it's a tragedy.

People need to relax a bit. Some people will be offended by people blaming gun laws. Is that inappropriate too? You probably don't think so, because you don't feel that way, but that's all it is, opinion. I don't find any of the discussion inappropriate. There's really no such thing as appropriate and inappropriate after a tragedy like this. Everyone has something they want to vent, and it's not gonna change the events that already transpired. Considering the nature of the internet, this is a tame discussion. PEACE.

I heard a newsperson refer to him as the "Batman killer", I shit you not.

Let the comic book witch hunt begin

Yeah, let's blame comic books instead of the people who sold him the guns, the tear gas, the riot gear, the bullets, etc.

That's a good point. Just surprising that that level of depression can lead you to wanting to massacre people. Then again, there was that serial killer in NJ who was also a medical student, so you never know.

Did the right thing
I was at a midnight viewing not far from there. When I got out there were allot of policemen and cop cars outside the parking lot. Was wondering why there were so many. I got out at around 3:15, so not exactly sure if the police presence was a response to the shooting.

That is so heart wrenching. I hope they find him soon.

I thought he may have told the cops about the traps because he felt compassion, but hearing that they are sophisticated and possibly very destructive, I wonder if is just challenging them or something, like in his warped min he thinks they won't be able to figure it out.

God, any chance of any timed explosives??

Unbelievable. I just don't know what to say.

I got to work this morning, and then my boss told me about this. I immediately checked the story, and this is just horrible.

A guy like that isn't a human. He's a rabid animal, and should be put down like a rabid animal. He forfeits his humanity card when he does something like this. Even animals have reasons when they kill. I know that's not a popular opinion here on GAF, but this monster needs to be put down. There's no rehabilitating "people" like this.

This was senseless.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by this. I can't even...God. This makes me so angry I'm shaking.

Supposedly, he didn't give too many details. He just alluded to the fact he had stuff. He probably expected them to just swing the door open and get nuked.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
No one has verified the 6 year old has died yet. At least not Children's Hospital.

Perfect analogy considering one of the main posters to engage in that discussion.

Terrible. Let's just say this is making me less certain about my decision to move to Aurora in the coming months for the job I got over there.

You say it's a catch-all thread and then mention gun laws in your second paragraph. It's already been laid down that this is not the thread to discuss gun laws. If people want to discuss gun laws, right to own guns, gun bans...keep it out of here.

Should someone make a thread to debate whether infants and young children should be at a theater? Probably. People make threads to debate other things parents do that they may or may not agree with.
It would certainly help to get the conversation out of this thread.

It's sad that people can pull jokes out of a scenario that isn't to be joked about whatsoever.

I'm sure if a family member of the jokers were in the middle of an incident like this, they'd see it's disgusting and distasteful for people to be making jokes.

Grow up.

People sometimes need humor, even (maybe even especially) in situations like this. It's a Defense mechanism, a way to protect yourself from the impact of such a horrible and tragic situation.

I don't mean to sound callous in a way (this is a horrible tragedy). Enough people have suffered already. Yet I was thinking that with the amount of weapons this piece of shit had - in a dark room with few exits, or an entire theater full of people - how were more people not murdered?

Maybe it's the size of the specific theater (I don't visit many), but man it seems this -could- have been so much worse.

Bad aim? It's surprising how bad someone's aim is if all the practice they've had is in video games.

And I suppose after the first dozen, most of the people were getting the hell out of there.

Fucking Christ, it was at the Century 16? Just so messed up to have this happen here. I'm still waiting to hear back from friends that wanted to go see it last night. Not sure what thearter they would go to but that one is a high possibility.
