Michael Phelps Becomes Most Decorated Olympian of All Time

Because she was faster than men. That's the real problem according to the American swim coach.

She wasn't close overall (Lochte's time was 4:05:18 and hers was 4:28:43) but if she had put up a time that beat the very best men in the world (total) it would be extremely suspect to everyone because she would have been a full length of the pool ahead of the other women.

You know what though, the athlete might be worse off, faster metabolism might mean faster processing of toxins. They may get drunker faster, but they'll get over it faster?

I dunno.

Wouldn't processing the alcohol faster be an advantage, though?

Is this thread super serious or is there a wink somewhere?
There has to be! This would be super silly without it.

I don't know if Korey is super serious (I suspect not) but the best way to respond is not to be super serious about it yourself.

Also, tests can be beat. Armstrong never failed a test, after all.

Sure, but there are people that have said they've seen Lance juicing, have juiced with him etc. There's none of that with this girl as of this point. The only things that people can bring up are her final 50m and what China has done in the past. I just think that the US coach that initially accused her of cheating should've had some actual evidence on his side before throwing that out there.

So, where exactly does the belief come from that China uses doping more than anyone else?
If anything, I see way more mentions of the United States using illegal substances than I do China.

I think the distinction is that when China has gotten caught in the past, the government has been involved. With the US (and other countries), it's been the individual coach or athlete.

Doesn't make any of it right though.

Well, yes, I bet an athelete at the peak of physical condition is in better physical condition than a computer scientist too.

Ya he could! WOO!

Berners-Lee get back to your mom's basement!

I dunno.

That's it, we have to test this.

LMAO, it's ridiculous how Korey can rile all of you guys up

I always enjoy his threads. Both for the over the top nature of the OP, and the replies from non-Americans who don't quite get our humor. Also, on a personal note, I find them very satisfying because it riles up the same individuals who put in way too much time making "American fatass" observations/jokes in other threads.

Americans can't handle their booze. It's not even a discussion.

I'm not usually one for generalizations, but you're spot on there. Even Canadians can drink me under the table, it's humiliating. :(

I see the thread title has changed.

As I said on the first page, there really isn't such a thing as "Greatest Olympian".

He's in a sport where someone can more likely dominate, and to me anyone who dominates in one sport shouldn't be classed in such a manner.

He's done after these games.

Honestly, I don't even think he wanted to be at these games. Just from the way he acted and appeared in interviews the last 4 years.

Someone mentioned in the official Olympics thread that his mom is pushing for the 2016 Olympics.

It's a distinction without a difference, really. It's government involvement because the sports federations and coaches are part of the government.

The government is also the one that tested and removed athletes in 2000 and even tested and removed a swimmer this year for EPO.

In case you haven't been following the 2012 Olympics, history was made yesterday when Michael Phelps beat someone's record in most Olympic medals won ever, essentially making the greatest athlete in the history of the universe an American. He is now the most decorated Olympian ever with 19 medals won. This is a monumental feat, but not a totally unexpected one, since Americans are used to being #1 at basically anything we care about.

Phelps won a Gold medal along with Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer, and Ricky Berens (also Americans) in the 4x200 freestyle relay, earning his 19th medal. He still has three more opportunities in these games to win more medals.

In a post-race interview, Phelps had this to say:

President Barack Obama tweeted the following, congratulating Phelps on his achievement:

At the time of this post, the USA is ranked #1 on the 2012 Olympics medal count.

In sadder news, the host England has yet to win a single gold medal.

Edit: While America was busy celebrating one of their own making history by becoming the greatest athlete in the history of mankind, the clouds parted slightly for England who managed to win their first gold medal. Congratulations.

More photos here.

Amazing OP there, Korey! :)

I'm glad someone made a thread about Phelps' great accomplishment.

You said humor, but in the Olympics thread your fellow Americans jumped on me for a dickish comment (about Americans being salty), everybody take things too seriously.

Great job Phelps. I love the patriotic aspects of the of the Olympics. Team USA should be proud.

The bitterness in this thread is beautiful.

Was the thread title changed? I assume it was, considering the 1st page of replies.

Current thread title is more accurate.

Oh yeah, that was the story:

Only 16 years old, woman, and still faster than a physically bigger american male swimmer.

Now that is one of the greatest athletes of all time, imho.

To be fair, she was only faster than him for 1/8th of the actual race. 400m races involve a lot of pacing.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
