CFA response to anti-gay alleg. "Guilty as charged." Do NOT gloat about eating at CFA

There's a large difference between not agreeing with people who chose to end their business with CFA, and coming in here to be an ass about it. In fact, there are quite a few legitimate reasons to disagree, and I also won't hold it against anyone if their love of the product makes them feel conflicted. I think I've been pretty fair in this thread.

Just to add to this, I and a few others in here articulated our points that you can eat at Chick Fil-A and still be for gay rights since they aren't mutually exclusive. Now you bring up a good point about our money going towards causes we don't support but that opens a whole new can of worms.

'Don't be a dick' is a simple rule to follow. If you don't follow it then hello temp ban!

Hope that was worded ok, don't ban me buddy!

It's enlightening to see how many people claim people on their Facebook are racing to chick filet. Not one person on my feed saying shit like that. I'm in a Los Angeles bubble, so it's easy to forget the way things are outside of it.

I've never had Chick Fil-A and I'll admit that all this hoopla makes me want to see what all the fuss is about. There are none near me though and I'm not nearly interested enough that I'm going to drive to New Jersey just to try it.

Eh, its alright. Its good chicken but its not drop dead amazing.

I have no doubt that there are churches all over the South that encouraged their congregations to head out to support Chick Fil A on this very important day, because it's important to send a clear message to homosexuals that they don't deserve the same rights as everyone else. And you can send that message loud and clear by shoving fried chicken into your mouth. Non-gay fried chicken.

It's better than most fast food, but it's still not great. My wife and I took some of the knock off recipes and made it good without all the salt and MSG that Chick Fil A packs in. I prefer the chicken grilled though. The pickles are definitely the star.

I think many of us do not mind the persecution. It comes with the territory.

It's taking every bit of common sense I have to not post that picture in response to this. I think most people know the one I'm referring to.

Anyway, surprisingly nobody on my feed has talked about their amazing adventures to CFA. I thought I was good, and then I saw this gem.

If you gay be gay I don't really care. I truly don't. But I'll be Damn if you are going to try to tell me being gay is morally right. I got a son to raise & if you going to try to teach him being gay is morally right. I'm drop yo ass like a hot plate.

Ahh, the people I went to high school with.

I'm in Texas, and I'm not seeing anything pro-CFA on my feed, and quite a few posts against it. I definitely have some friends (mostly family, really) that might feel that way, but no one pro-CFA has brought it up.

I didn't complain about anyone being banned on this page (that is not what I implied in any of my post from my point of view). I simply asked why they were banned.

I personally do see a discrepancy when countless people in religious threads are being condescending, in the majority of the posts, but yet are not banned for the same thing the person in this thread was banned for. That is why I said what I did about people not being banned in religious threads.

Enough with the martyrdom complex. If there are specific posts you are referring to, in which someone comes into a religious thread and acts like an ass, complain directly to the mods. If you're talking about the atheism vs theism thread, well yes, there's going to be heated argument and probably condescension. Goes with the territory.

If banning for condescension is going to be enforced in one thread, than it would be fair to say that it should be enforced in all threads. It seems inconsistent to ban it in one thread, but not ban it in the other.

On the flip side of these points, I personally do not mind if people are condescending. People are free to express their point of view. The context of my points are all centered in on bans not being enforced equally among all threads.

EDIT

I will leave it at that. Sorry for taking the thread off topic.

you should start a thread about it.

Yah, despite my large number or mormon friends on facebook here in AZ, haven't seen anyone talking about it one way or the other.

It's not? People are being banned for trolololing.

See Hito's post if you're still having trouble understanding this (see, that was some condescension):

bitch I'm taking calls.
Could you please refrain from using epithets in reference to religious people? In my opinion, this is akin to using the f-word for gay people, b-word for women, etc.
Saying someone is a bible thumper is not equal to calling someone a faggot.

All the talk about alternative chicken sandwich sources is good, I think I will get one for lunch from a local diner.

People who thump with Bibles deserve to be called on it and demeaned. Most religious people don't.

He's kinda right. I've never seen anyone actually thump their bible... More like smack them as they are preaching.

So how about Bible Abusers? It works two ways!

I am kidding of course...

Here, let me give you an actual response. "Faggot," "nigger," and other such terms are slurs applied indiscriminately to all members of certain minority groups.

"Bible thumper" is a pejorative, but it is a fairly specific term used to indicate a person who imposes their religious beliefs on others, like a preacher shouting and thumping a Bible. Also, Christians aren't a persecuted minority group.

Folks, I just don't think name-calling has a place in any useful discussion. If this was something that should've been done through PM, that was my mistake. Not trying to throw the thread way off-topic.

Maybe Hito should've avoided it, yes, especially since it probably only fed into GA's martyrdom complex.

Man, this thread must be a nightmare to mod.

I thought the whole reason for calling out Bible-Thumpers was to differentiate between the reasonable religious folks and the crazies. I guess to truly be tolerant of religion, we must never levy criticism against it, no matter the reason.

This.

It would be really interesting to see some numbers on how many "likes" CFA had on Facebook a month or two ago versus how many they have now. I'm not sure how useful it would be in describing the bigger picture but it was just something I thought would be interesting to see.

I don't think name-calling is appropriate either, but comparing "Bible thumper" to the other words you mentioned is extremely disingenuous and reeks of a privileged majority trying to play the persecution card.

Just came from lunch at the Burlington Mall food court. There are only two Chick-Fil-As in Massachusetts, and that's one of them. I guess some people organized an Appreciation Day or something?

Anyways, there were hundreds of people in the line for Chick-Fil-A, and more getting in every minute. Lots of people taking pictures of the various Chick-Fil-A signs.

It was really quite a depressing sight.

I don't think this really means much. In today's world of ubiquitous communication, it's quite easy for a few people to make a bold statement. But if you are surprised that a large number of people are in support of Chick-fil-a, then you haven't taken into account the fact that this is a large and diverse nation, with millions of people on all sides of nearly any issue you can think of.

Oh, I'm not claiming this indicates a large majority of people support it at all. I just find it sad that you have so many people publicly expressing their support for a form of, arguably, bigotry.

Then again, I also fully support their right to do so. Free speech works both ways.

This is an extremely HOT issue. It's also one that the country is firmly divided on. Half the country feels pretty strongly about gays getting married being a full blown attack on their religious freedoms.

I'd love to see pictures of this population.
