Just came from lunch at the Burlington Mall food court. There are only two Chick-Fil-As in Massachusetts, and that's one of them. I guess some people organized an Appreciation Day or something?

Anyways, there were hundreds of people in the line for Chick-Fil-A, and more getting in every minute. Lots of people taking pictures of the various Chick-Fil-A signs.

It was really quite a depressing sight.

I was about to post pretty much the same, as the Chik Fil A near me had cars going out to the street. It's never been that busy, even for lunch.

I just saw they had an appreciation day today, and this is NC.

I'd love to see pictures of this population.

Didn't take pictures. It was overwhelmingly white, and lots of Tea Party t-shirts. A lot of older people, several nuns, a priest and quite a few soldiers (which isn't unusual, I usually see at least a few soldiers every time I go there for lunch, there's a nearby military base). Definitely appeared to be a middle-class crowd. Well-groomed, decent (casual) clothes. Nobody really stood out.

Quite a few families, however.

I pass a CFA on my way to work every day. This morning there was a line of cars wrapped around the building, and a line of people out the door into the parking lot. That isn't what shocked me though. No, what shocked me was the number of I guess you could call the social services, that were also there. At least two firetrucks full of firemen getting breakfast, at handful of cops doing the same, and even a couple ambulances with people getting their food. I see them there now and then, but never that many, all at one time. I've got to go past a different CFA when I go to lunch here in a while on my way to WalMart to pick up a replacement PC for my parents and I'll report back what I see. It may be weird to say, but I don't expect the main crowds until tonight.

No discounts. Just people who want to show them gays that not everyone supports their rights.

I see.

I've been seeing pics on twitter of people at Chick-Fil-A restaurants with captions saying things like "Take This!" and the like. So childish.

It's sad how many people I've read using the "what so you don't like CFA's stance? guess ur the real intolerant one here..." argument.

Is that really the best response? If someone's your friend, don't you think you have an opportunity to open a discussion with them instead of just cutting them out of your life?
I was kidding, but while I can see why a gay person wouldn't boycott, I don't understand how a person could be gay (and presumably in favor of gay marriage) and yet still appreciate Chick-Fil-A's views on gay marriage.

I could clearly see that many of the people taking pictures next to the Chick-Fil-A sign and the like had the same mindset.

There were a couple of, well, protesters? It was two women. However, they weren't really doing anything other than standing by the CFA wearing shirts that said something like "Stop Homophobia" in the CFA font.

Everyone was being very civil.

From what I hear, there's a proper protest being scheduled for this Friday. I guess groups are calling for people to show up and kiss a same-sex person in front of CFA during the lunch hour.

Someone like the person he described is completely toxic and probably not the best choice to keep as a friend. Delete.

It just strengthens the correlation between certain philosophies and ignorance.

Also of note are the grammatical, spelling and logical abilities of both camps of the "debate" on FB.

I wandered onto the Facebook page for this and found this:

"I ate a chicken sandwich and the whole time I was eating, I wasn't hating anyone. In fact, I didn't see anyone hating anyone. Furthermore, the young man that took my order and served me was gay. He seemed to be perfectly happy to work for Chick-fil-A. I'm guessing that if he felt hated or disrespected, he wouldn't have been so pleasant."

What did the guy ask the server if he was gay when he ordered?

Probably just assumed he was gay because he had long hair and looked FABULOUS!

Obviously, he wore his "i'm a gay" name tag that day.

He probably just assumed. Because gays should be self-loathing and supportive of movements that diminish their "lifestyle". Right?

Facebook of the day: "WWJD? He would eat at CFA."

I realize this is taking things to an extreme degree, but one is reminded of justifications for things like Jim Crow and even slavery by claiming that the group being oppressed is happy with its current state.

Besides which, depending on where the guy is, he's probably just happy to have a job in the current economic climate.

Although I will state that CFA employees are generally some of the most polite service people I've ever encountered.

Chick-Fil-A probably touted their token gay guy in front of everybody. "See, this guy's gay and he agrees with our views!" He's like the real life version of Elizabeth Santorum's imaginary gay friends.

He was such a pleasant Gay.

I live in Georgia. My town has SIX Chick-Fil-A's in it. I've told people on my FB that anyone who posts stupid pictures of Chick-Fil-A bags gets tossed. I've already deleted two people. Going to be a rough day...

And then the Marine punched the atheist professor in the face. And that Marine was Albert Einstein.

I wanted to make a joke about Chick-fil-a forcing their gay employees to wear a "Star of Gayvid" armband but....yeah, way too much. In reality, the guy probably spoke with a lisp or something and the customer made assumptions.

It's possible. I know a couple gay Republicans.

Oh man. Wasn't following this story anymore and didn't realize today was an appreciation day. Felt really awkward once I went in the store because the line was too long outside. Bad day to be in the mood for some chicken. :/

Yeah, from what I've seen generally gay Republicans tend to be more fiscal conservative as opposed to social conservative.

Yeah, I know. One of them is a business owner.

I just love the delicious irony of a gay male supporting a political party that outright hates him / his sexual orientation, and runs on a platform of denying him civil rights.

It boggles the mind that in a country like the USA, droves of people thank and appreciate a fast food company for donating to anti gay causes.

I live in the south (although not in the deep south, thank god) and it STILL blows my mind from time to time.

It's the result of only having two major parties. If fiscal issues are more important to you than social issues, you'll naturally go to the party that is more in line with you on that, even if you deeply disagree on other issues you find less important.

Yes, because Chick-Fil-A is the only place in the world that sells chicken.
