IGN: ""How Sony Won Gamescom Before It Even Started"

Sony has been smart to focus on Europe and Japan. It's going to be very interesting if the PS4 is the same price or a lower price than the next Microsoft console in NA. Sony already has Europe and Japan on lock. I don't see how that article was necessarily wrong. Microsoft not having a huge presence at TGS or Gamescom is terrible. Especially given their past two E3s.

Pretty ironic they post this "love letter" the same day the give out the lowest score of any site for Papo & Yo (a ps3 exclusive), and by a lot.

Also Colin has turned into Mr negativity lately all things Sony. So I don't agree that ign has a bias, they just write dumb articles.

they have team Playstation, XBOX, and Nintendo

I think Mitch is on the xbox team

You're....joking right?

I'm talking about Microsoft vs. Sony in Japan. The PS3 has killed the 360 in sales. That's not going to change next generation. Are you actually disputing this?
You can't really say Sony has Japan on lock without mentioning the other force there, the one which actually does have Japan on lock, at least for now.

The sad thing is you are not joking.
They are a globalcompany.
They want to appeal to a worldwide audience.

You say inderectly that they dont do this anymore. You are right.

Winning Gamescom without MS there is like Tyson winning a boxing match cause the other guy didn't show up.
.

Not quite the same when it comes to business/sales, and while I don't think it has anything to do with the 360 at all despite showing some titles it was basically the entire spotlight for free and they definitely knocked it out of the park with the Vita info.

So yes, a big win for Sony in a department that has nothing to do with the 360, if that's what IGN was trying to get at

This is absolutely hilarious. I can taste the sweetness!

Sure I may agree with him on some points. Also even if I am a multiplatform owner, the way Sony has been has been doing things makes me favour them the most, but the gushing...

I mean Declassified a perfect CoD experience? Making the Vita perfect for every single PlayStation fan? Sony should he feared?

Oh IGN. Games journalism at it's finest

The fun part is also when you look at Europe and you see that while MSFT isn't exactly doing great there, the other force is actually well ahead and (for the handhelds) its biggest market.
Like really WTH is he even on?

Winning Gamescom isn´t all that difficult if your 2 only competitors pull a no show...

Thats like competing in a race with you as the only competitor...

Microsoft didn't showed up at Gamescom? Wow. They don't care about this market?

They don't give a shit about Gamescom. Can't blame Sony for going. They're in last place in the console and handheld biz. Use every opportunity to remind people that you haven't gone out of business yet. And then throw some money at IGN to write you a love letter. Bing bang boom. Success!

Microsoft didn't go because they have nothing to show.

But the 3ds own 65 % of the market, not including wii and ds.

Nintendo will own > 70% when wiiu come out.

Nintendo has always monopolized the handheld console space. Isn't new or shocking at all. And the console space and handheld space are not the same, I don't get the whole 70% thing.

That people buy in huge volumes, right? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean things like that aren't hugely popular.

Didn't even mention sales/quality. It's their complete and utter lack of diversity when compared to the likes of Sony's first party offerings.

Microsoft didn't go because they have nothing to show.

Nothing new, anyway.

If people are thinking that's because their new studios are probably working on the next Xbox, they are probably right. But those people also need to consider that the vast majority of Sony's studios and teams are working on multiple unannounced projects.

Sony just has a larger network to produce games from so they can continue to produce and announce games at a faster rate.

Yeah, you said:

Which is clearly wrong, proven by your "list" of 3 shooters.

No, I listed those because of their categorical similarities. If they turned up at Gamescom and showed exactly what they did with E3 (i.e nothing but shooters) after Sony unveiled two new games, one a new IP completely then it's obvious what more interest will be shown.

Hell this was proven when Watch Dogs was unveiled - it stole the show completely because it was new and interesting, not shooter number 5000 with a different coat of paint.

The wii isn't exactly blazing trails these days...
It outsold the entire PlayStation Family combined last week. :)

Right, the console space is borderline irrelevant, handhelds cannibalized it. The handheld market might as well be the Japanese market at this point.

huh?

Oh NM I see. Thats an impressive week alright. Can Sony brag about selling 2X the Wii for the year?

Uh huh...

Thats gotta be why they invest the millions of dollars into consoles.

The only system entitled to any form of bragging rights in Japan is 3DS. It's going to hit 9m before PS3 does even.

The only Japanese companies investing millions into consoles are those looking outside Japan for a return. The only company capable of multimillion sellers on consoles at home is Nintendo.

Sony employs more first party developers than Microsoft and Nintendo combined. Which is great because we don't have to watch support dry up as soon as they start building towards a new generation of hardware.

Bingo. That's the main reason they're still way behind Sony in all of mainland Europe.

So why will they attend PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo then?

They aren't as significant as Gamescom because of no press conference, which is generally meant for announcements of new titles.

.

So you hop in a conversation about the Wii's performance in Japan to try and brag about the good week it had and when its pointed out that it is still being doubled in sales for the year you backtrack to the brand new portable 3DS' sales.

Thats creative I guess.
