What am I spinning? I wasn't aware that we live in a world where we insult people without basis. Did I wake up in a different world? Or are you just being an overreacting jerk? Look in the mirror and ask yourself this. :)

I already conceded to Aeana that we might as well wait out the countdown, and I've been speaking in hypotheticals for quite a while now. If he lied, then he is absolutely an asshole.

"This" is me saying "It's pointless and immature to call him a liar if you don't know he's lying."

Duckroll himself said that the "other" announcement is probably the album, and that is the scenario I'm discussing.

I never said anything of that sort. Why put words in my mouth? I said the countdown is almost certainly the iOS announcement. That is the main product. Is there anything else? I honestly don't know.

I'm fine with waiting a couple days before judging and never said I'm not. If it turns out that he lied, then he's an asshole. If he was talking about something worth being excited about, then I'll offer every apology I can imagine to Mr. Gray and the corporate entity of Square Enix. If he was just being slick and trying to keep people excited about some other disappointment, then he's not precisely a liar but only on a technicality.

I think the problem here is that you seem far to invested in this to rationally realize that you are sounding like a total jerk. This isn't some issue of moral outrage. It's a videogame. Is your life that sad that you take it so personally when you are disappointed by a videogame announcement that you have to insult people over it? Is your only thought here "okay we will wait until the countdown is over to decide if I can insult this guy I don't know and call him an asshole!!!"? Take a step back and breath for Christ's sake.

I had this exact same thought on the last page (and I'm sure others made it prior to me).

The countdown and announcement is PROBABLY for the new remix/arrangement album.

The iOS port is simply other, related news.

Oops! Indeed you did. Ah well, great minds think alike and all that. :)

I freely admit that there are a select few games that I have considerable emotional investment in, just as people get emotionally invested in film and artwork that moves them. TWEWY happens to be one of those rare cases. I don't view it as "just a game" but as something that made a strong impression upon me personally at a very difficult time in my life. If you want to label my life sad because of that then that is your prerogative.

I am not planning a concerted campaign of hate in case it turns out that he lied to us, but you can bet that I would be upset, and that I would want to say as much. But as a matter of fact I think it's healthier to get it out of the way now; I'm sure there will be no ambiguity about my feelings should the worst come to pass.

What is sad is how you're acting. It's like watching a 15 year old kid throw a tantrum. It's not anyone else's fault if you can't control your expectations and act like a mature human being. The fact that you have to be told to stop insulting people and instead of realizing how improper it is, you continue to defend that behavior just shows how out of touch you are with reality here.

Sorry, late to the party. So it's confirmed that the album is the surprise? No TWEWY game? :(

We know that at least an album and iOS port of the first game is coming.

There's believed to be something else, though we have no guarantees that it's anything on the scale of a sequel.

You're acting like we already know he lied for sure. As Roto13 said, if that's the case then he's an asshole. That's it. As we're not yet sure if that's the case, I have nothing to argue here.

Excuse me? I guess I just have to be direct. This is the sort of childish behavior you have exhibited on the thread recently, and I am telling you that it is unacceptable behavior, as a mod:

You serious?

For fuck's sake Square.

Fuck.

And fuck that guy on Twitter too.

Brian Gray if you're reading this FUCK YOU. As if the first disappointment wasn't enough.

This Gray asshole hyped up something else after the album leaked.

I mean I guess it's possible there really is nothing else, in which case Brian Gray is an enormous douche.

Just stop. Seriously.

I'm not going to call him names and I'm not defending what you quoted, I already conceded that point to Aeana (and you) on the last page. "Fair enough" would likely have been my last post in this thread until Monday, at which point I would have used more delicate language in my criticism. I confess that I've actually been very confused about what you've been pressing me on since the points you're hammering by being "direct" were, I thought, already addressed.

Usually we wait until the thing the person said is proven false before stringing them up, though.
Fair enough.
Fine, I will refrain from using shorthand pejoratives like "asshole" "prick" and "douche" and instead use the descriptive long form "liar who knowingly tricked devoted fans for no apparent reason except narcissism and schadenfreude."
Since we had covered that ground already, I was under the impression that you were pushing back against any sort of criticism of the man. Now I really don't think we were actually in disagreement at any point on the last page.

It would be nice if we could have a new game or at least another game with its combat system.

Oh well time will tell *plays game again*

This... is all I got. Left hand with virtual dpad, right hand for bottom screen. Makes a bit more sense on iphone...

Let's hope this isn't what SE decides on :/

I can't think of any other viable control scheme unless they automate the top screen. The problem is you needed a lot of precision for some Pins; I'm not convinced that they can make that practical on a tiny phone screen. Tablet maybe.

But the narrative makes such a big deal about how being a loner and not trusting his partner hurts Neku's performance in the game: he has to learn how to open up and rely on others in order to succeed and win, hence his world can no longer end with just him.

Basically. Neku's continued survival is inextricably tied to him broadening his horizons and learning to open up to other people.

The title (The World Ends With You) is always true no matter how Neku acts. But that means that his world is only as large as he makes it. Before, he lived in a world that began and ended with his headphones. Over the course of the game, he explores Shibuya, learns to work with all different kinds of partners, makes friends with shopkeepers (remember that mechanic?), and ultimately comes to care deeply about other people. He expands his world.

Mechanics like Shutdown PP, Mingle PP, and food digestion all support these themes, and I'd hate to see them changed just for convenience.

No one will get me down, I trust my dreams.

Since I doubt Sears will start selling broken first generation iPods for three dollars that they'll refuse to sell to me once I somehow magically fix it by turning it on but be okay selling me a new copy of a Club Nintendo exclusive game for a dollar I'm going to guess it wasn't a Déjà vu dream.

Also, the Arrange Album is enough to make me happy for the moment. EXCITEMENT

I think if they develop a good simplified combat system for touch controls it could be a decent port.

Nothing else in the game is control intensive.

Fact is, within the fanbase (i.e. Those who actually. Played the game on DS), no one really cares about an iOS port; and I'm skeptical a lot of people will buy the game on iOS. Teasing something related clearly rely on the fanbase, and just the album seems a poor effort to satisfy it.

That dream sounds like a roller-coaster, I envy you.

Let's get rid of one the most interesting aspects of the game!

I don't think most people ever gave a shit about the top screen though. I know I played most of the game without even trying to keep up with it after the first few days in the game. Most of the people I talk to regarding the game say the same thing, so I won't be surprised if that's the feedback the team got too after the game was released.

But thats half the fun of the fights :(

I had plenty of fun without trying to divide my attention across two screens. I hate that sort of gimmick, so it was good that the base battle system with Neku was lots of fun on its own. The pins are really fun to play with.

This doesn't change it was one of the most important aspects of the game. Leaving out of the context personal experiences (e.g. I always tried to be precise and follow both screens since it wasn't so difficult after some training). I'm sure developers stated that the concept could have managed better, but I don't see the point of completely getting rid of it; wasn't even tied with the story, if I remember correctly? In the case they take just the action of one screen I'm still skeptical of how they can translate battles on such devices. Touch inputs need to be quite precise, since enemies may be a lot and the scene quite busy, while leaving just buttons (with screen buttons as Street Fighter) means limiting the battle system itself. In sum, I don't see how they could render the game on iOS without distorting it, and I see that's a quite big concern here for those who already played the original and may be willing to buy this new version (I'm in actually).

I don't really think it's that big of a deal. I doubt they'll get rid of the "top screen" anyway. Since they'll probably be targeting iPhone and iPad devices, it'll be one long screen touch display, so they'll probably put the partner inputs on top. Instead of using a virtual d-pad you would just tap the icons as they appear... if you want to. Otherwise there's always the AI option like in the original.

I disagree. For me, a lot of the fights would have been pretty difficult without the ability to pass the puck back and forth. But to each their own. Yes you could play without the top screen completely, but I'd be bummed if they removed it.

Actually, it would be a big deal, because it would be a different game gameplay-wise. So are you saying that the fictitious bottom screen has touch inputs (how precise? Because I remember TWEWY has a wide array of moves, i.e. movements to do with the stylus, that must be done precisely to attack enemies and objects, and to move the characters... Doing all the stuffs with a finger or two could be a total mess) while the fictitious top screen may have either a virtual d-pad (so other fingers to control the characters, and other inputs on the screen! TWEWY is already full of stuffs, anyway) or through the AI. If the first one doesn't work well (and it's hard to imagine it'll work well), they must stick to AI, limiting the game somehow. Now, I cannot imagine a solution that'd be faithful to the original game without distorting it, and your description seems a total mess to me (otherwise you're an octopus :p); let's wait some more days to see the real deal.

The best part for me was Slashing a shitload of enemies in the bottom screen and firing Jesus Beams at the same time. Anyone who really didn't pay attention to the top screen missed some good stuff.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
On a related note I've seen people shit on Neku on the same reason people shit on Squall, that they're both "emo" (which is hilarious, since angsty is more apt). Seems like they think both characters are all angsty throughout the game.

They're only "emo" if they whine a lot, which they don't. Their angst is mostly internal.

At least game'll gain more recognition.
I hope it does really well, all the more to increase sequel chances.

That worked out so well for Chrono Trigger...

Exactly. Top screen was often optional, but once you mastered it and entered a zen-like state where you could see both screens, it was amazing.

On the discussion of how the iOS port will play, I can see it being horizontal. Instead of having a "top" and "bottom", a "left" and "right". Control the left screen by sliding your left thumb (with it set to semi-auto), control the right with the right thumb/index finger, with pins lining the far right of the right screen.

I hate how, the more I think about it, the more I feel it just might work without buttons.
