So going back to Dial H.... You guys were talking about it so I decided to get the four issues on my tablet. The first issue I was like Hell yeah this is good. Then all this shit started happening... Is this a new franchise? Am I missing something here?

It's a new take on Dial "H" for Hero but it's its own story. A lot of strange concepts start being thrown around quickly but by the last issue, #4, it's pretty easy to follow along. What do you feel like you're missing?

Hawkeye v Angel was blah.

Storm v Panther though...Even as someone who hated the marriage, that was pretty bad.

First off, it's really disappointed to see it reduced to nothing but a fist fight because of prep time. :/ Especially since in a straight hand to hand fight, Panther should wax Storm.

Storm: "If only we had had children." Really Marvel? Come on now. Storm is so much better than that.

Panther came off a little too cold. Like JJD said, having Storm tearing herself apart on the inside while Panther is just like "Shit happens. Woman wasn't that great anyway" made him seem like such a dick.

The kiss was out of nowhere and felt forced.

Why were the X-Men allowed to just walk out of Wakanda? If Panther had anti-mutant plans on some ToB Batman shit, why didn't he just disable them and lock them up? This was during the search for Hope, so it wasn't like they had Phoenix power watching their backs.

Lost his marriage and had his country flooded...I bet Panther is really regretting rejoining the Avengers.

Other pick ups for the week include Aquaman and Cap Marvel.

i doubt he regrets joining the avengers as much as he does marrying storm and absorbing her batshit extended family.

At least it's over. One day we'll get a retcon saying that it was a Stormbot for these 7 years. If Doom can have infinite do-overs, then so can Storm.

at this point. storm could be a skrull, i dont really care. i would like them to introduce t'chaka to the 616 someday though, but i guess it will have to be when all this avx business blows over.

So how much of this PantherStorm hate really X-hate in disguise? Why can't we all just get along? Or at least happily pretend that certain badly organized and over-leveraged portions of the Marvel universe don't exist?

Look, I like BP. I do. and I LOOOOOVE Storm. But ever since the beginning it felt like a stunt, "hey let's put these two black people together!" And Dwayne McDuffie's short FF run, I have seen nothing to persuade me otherwise. My enjoyment of those characters lessen seeing them together. Storm fans AND BP fans have been wanting this to come to an end, and finally...it's over. And they are better characters BECAUSE it being over.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Let her ruin them all.

DA FUQ?

I wonder if this has to do with mystery red-head on All-New X-Men cover.

EDIT: Wait, what if Rachel and Hope get merged into Grey Summers???

Don't say horrible things like that.

EDIT: Also, looking at the body, it has to be Hope, because no self-respecting comic book artist could draw Jean Grey and resist making her ample bosom and curves as near to Liefeld as their reputations permit. Which is a roundabout way of saying that girl's too skinny to be Jean.

Look, I like BP. I do.

I'm really sensitive to the racial dynamic in comics. Hell, in real life, (non-black)people have tried fixing me up with other people simply because we were both black, so of course I hate that. Gluing John Stewart to Vixen was like..."wha?" But I didn't feel like it was forced with BP&S. I felt like they could have made it. They did have chemistry. Storm and her strong black king, and T'Challa could not deny that he had a worthy queen. Yes they were on separate teams, but that doesn't matter. If they weren't then the marriage would have seemed truly forced. I don't feel like they were at odds with each other either. It wasn't a bad situation, it was just awkward execution in the eyes of some. Plus a failure to DO anything with the dramatic construct they created, except to tear it all down spectacularly. If this was how it was all going to end, I would rather that they hadn't made the attempt.

If that is Hope then Stark's meddling (and half the series at least) was for nought? They'll probably say it wasn't because now Hope witnessed the corruption of the Phoenix Force first-hand or something...

And Storm is one of Marvel's strongest female characters. The way she is written in AVX VS turns my stomach.

the marriage always seemed forced though. the mega event, the f4 run, all of it

I'm fully expecting hardcore make-up sex between Storm and BP. No way this is over.

Scarlet Witch at the end of House of M: "No More Mutants"

Hope as Phoenix in AvX: "No More AvX"

Induced? OK. Nothing happens unless they force it. But the marriage didn't seem unnatural or unsustainable. Case in point, the breakup required so many contrivances, the panther god prophecy, T'Challa suddenly becoming a dick, Storm being unable to stand up for herself and make a case using logic, and everyone being blind to the fact that Namor was to blame, etc.

It just seemed like an excuse. You could say bringing them together was an excuse to have a party, and this superhero war was just another excuse to break them apart.

Dean White confirmed today's issue was his last for the Uncanny X-Force

Sad news, man. With alllll the different artists we've seen over the past 30 issues, Dean White has been the guy to make it all seem consistent, there was a definitive, dark look to the series, and now he's gone to color Captain America and Thor :(

Awful news. Atleast he'll be paired with Ribic on Thor. I think Dean colored Ribic's art on Ultimates too?

But isn't the hair too long and Curly to be Hope?

Maybe it's Maggot, back for revenge. The Phoenix just did a few modifications and molded him into a more familiar form.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Haha as an addendum to the AvX VS hate, apparently Warren was written as if he didn't have amnesia and was no longer the somewhat young and naive character he's been since. Anyone that stumped for it confirm?

I can see what this week's UXF was going for, but Evan just seemed way too passive and along for the ride for it to even vaguely make sense and suspend my disbelief. WatXM was damn good though, glad that book has cleansed itself of the terrible "nothing happens" tie-in fate it had going for a while.

I dunno what happened to him as I've seen past good work, but if Dragotta doesn't get near any book I continue to read after his FF shit where everyone is Dr Seuss'd up, I'll be a happy customer. Constant terrible mentally challenged looking :0 faces.

sorta wanted to get that Green Lantern annual and get back on Green Lantern argh..

This week's issue was jawdroppingly excellent. The beginning of a Third Army and wow...

Many of the 12th issue ends of the first year of New 52 were amazing today. But I don't bother posting about them anymore.

Aquaman: You know what sucks about Zero Month? I have to wait till the end of October to see how this turns out. Aquabro might need to trade up: that scepter is totally shitting on his trident. I still feel like we haven't had enough time with the Others.

Capt. Marvel: Much better than the previous chapter. I think I'm gonna subscribe to this one.

Question: Are you reading Corps and New Guardians? Does Third Army make you want to? I'm slowly thinking about just reading Green Lantern, which i think is a solid book and am enjoying it more than some of the Brighest Day pre new 52 stuff.

I like Corps but NG's concept makes no sense to me. The last page of today's GL gives me hope for both if them. It's a Geoff Johns' teaser page, and they always rock.

Is that because the positive DC opinions in this thread tend to be drowned out by negativity? I would like to still see your positive impressions.

On the whole I'm mixed on the Nu52. I think most of the Bat books are great (Tec and Dark Knight being the exceptions), and two of the Green Lantern books are great. I could have said that before, however. I like the new Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Flash, which I couldn't say before the reboot. I like some of the Dark, particularly Demon Knights, Swamp Thing, Frankenstein and Animal Man, so that's a plus. All Star Western and Suicide Squad have also been good.

I'm not sure that I wouldn't trade all of those pluses for Power Girl, Zatanna, Secret Six and the old Birds of Prey, however. I guess for me Nu52 is a real mixed bag with some clear positives and some clear negatives. It's great to see that DC is selling well again. Without this it seems like they were on a slow and steady spiral downwards.

I'm gonna hope back GLC this coming month. Hope the focus is on Guy now instead of John, the John goes on trial is more overplayed then a random GL getting killed to start an arc.

Since the GL annual got a mention (deservedly so), I would like to say that the JLI annual was pretty interesting too. If the rest of the series had been as good, it might not have been cancelled. They seem to have set up a lot of plot points for the upcoming year too.
Future Booster Gold implies to present Booster Gold that upcoming Superman/Wonder Woman romance needs to be stopped or bad things will happen. Also, someone/something has usurped Brother Eye and Brother Eye tells Batman that his "new programmer" is coming soon and Batman must either join or die.

Well, Green Lantern, you had your shot. Goodbye, again.

No Earthly way I can take that goofy-ass looking Third Army seriously. Rooting them in a distinctly Johnsian bit of extreme violence is the icing on the shitty cake.

I tried, DC. I really really tried.

Zatanna was already disappearing regardless of the New 52. Dini was either losing interest or over-extended between comics and TV shows. There were so many fill-ins in the last few months it was ridiculous, so we really didn't miss much once the New 52 popped up.

Beechen gets a lot of flak but his fill-in issues were really, really fun.

Worlds' Finest is pretty ace, especially the parts with Maguire on art, and it's got Power Girl.

Zatanna is in Justice League Dark, which fucking rules what with Jeff Lemire writing.

Suicide Squad fills the Secret Six niche by being pretty fucking crazy.

New Birds of Prey is pretty kick-ass.

So, you know, there's things for everyone. That's COOL AS HECK.

I don't think I've read any #12's yet but I'm almost all caught up

Yeah. I forgot about the timing of that, but you're right. While it started to slow towards the end I thought it was always a fun read and had a character that was more interesting than most. It led me to track down a bunch of her earlier appearances, many of which were pretty poorly written.

And screw full digital, this JL 12 variant I got is the the tentpole of my collection.

The end of the issue was fucking awesome. "I must stop Atlantis." You are not so strong Superman!" "The call is coming from inside the house!" Then in 2013....Stargirl and Vibe become A Listers.
