This might sound crazy, but this is my favorite DS game and one of my favorite games of the past ten years.

Nah, makes sense, it's a great score attack game. Loved it when it came out.

I still pick up the game, play a Marathon for an hour, and try to beat my score.

Marathon mode is as replayable as Tetris IMO, and it has the same "one more time" feeling when you lose because you knew it was your fault. This game was so misunderstood since everyone wanted Yoshi's Island.

Guys, the original Rhythm Heaven is $8.40 with free shipping available on Amazon right now, the game is completely worth it, and that's 30 Club Nintendo Coins right there as well.

I've had Aliens: Infestation sat on my shelf for a little while, so I thought I'd tuck into it this morning. Holy crap, it's an Alien meteoidvania! And it looks glorious! I just killed one of my characters off during a boss fight though. D'oh. Don't think I'll be getting him back. Still, what a lovely surprise.

Listen to this man. I gave it away after getting a perfect on all the games but now I'm considering double dipping.

How are the graphics ?

Are they as good as Contra 4 ???

I haven't played Contra 4 for a while, but I would actually be inclined to say...no? I've only played for a couple of hours, but the environments seem much more sparse than anything in Contra 4. Makes sense given the subject matter though, I suppose. That said, marines, Aliens, facehuggers, the sprite-work is pretty much excellent. Up to usual WayForward standards.

So what cool games have been released in 2011 and 2012?

I've barely paid attention to the system, and now I think it's time to set things right

This is a 100% exhaustive list that could not possibly have any other entries. Retail titles only, I don't follow DSiWare:

Upcoming:
Pokemon Black and White 2
Diamond Trust of London (Kickstarter only, Jason Rohrer)
Adventure Time (also on 3DS, get that one instead, WayForward)

2012:
Pokemon Conquest (Pokemon meets Nobunga's Ambition)
Devil Survivor 2

2011:
Bejeweled 3
Fossil Fighters Champions
Professor Layton 4
Aliens Infestation (WayForward)
Solatorobo
Kirby Mass Attack
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2
Trackmania Turbo
Monster Tale (Henry Hatsworth Expats)
Okamiden
Pokemon Black and White
Radiant Historia (Atlus)
de Blob 2
You Don't Know Jack (worst version of the game, don't get this)
Dragon Quest VI
Plants vs Zombies
Ghost Trick
Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded

Literally nothing else is even worth considering during that period of time. I'm not actually endorsing all of these games, but that's an exhaustive list of stuff that would even be considered a remotely serious or worthwhile effort.

I realize text based listing is not very productive, but there's few enough of these that you can pretty much tell what these are and follow up on them yourself.

What's the best way to buy older DS games sealed & new? I've had problems with getting counterfeit copies from Ebay, and I have a long list of DS games I want to buy. I stopped buying a lot of DS games around the time Pearl/Diamond came out and started getting more when I bought my 3DS. I missed so many good games. :(

If I'm buying online I'll have to use Paypal. I don't have a credit card.

Yessss. Finally. I can't believe it took me this long to find an affordable copy here in the UK. On Amazon UK of all places, albeit through a third-party. How do they get away with that considering it explicitly states it is only for sale in America on the box?! Oh well. It's all mine. :)

Why not Amazon? Even if you don't have a credit card, you can still buy Amazon giftcards in all kinds of stores. I'm not sure if it would be possible to buy them online with paypal though, that seems kind of unlikely.

Personally it isn't as important to me to find them sealed, so I try and find the ones that are excessively expensive on Amazon for cheaper on Kijiji.

I missed this? Dang, I know its going to be super expensive on eBay. Wish I had ordered.

Oh. There's still hope.

More information will be posted on the main Diamond Trust website late this fall. There are thousands of extra regular edition copies left over that will likely be sold via mail order through the website.

Guys, is there any way of finding The World Ends With You for at least $30.00? every site has it unavailable, Amazon sellers and Ebay have it, but it's $49-$65, I was about to buy it the day Amazon sold their last copies, is there any hope for a last re-print? or am I too damn late? :(

That doesn't sound like a short game to me, I haven't started it since I want to finish Blue Dragon first but I can't wait to do it. :)

Some others for 2011
Giana Sisters (US release)
Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns (I've read it's better than the 3DS version)
Captain America: Super Soldier (haven't played it, but it's made by Griptonite)
Max & the Magic Marker
Thor: God of Thunder (WayForward)

It is shocking to me that I am still seeing titles that I need to add to my DS collection, which is already at around 150 games. I had no idea Max & the Magic Marker got a DS release? Anyone know how it is? I imagine it plays quite nicely on DS.

Also, I'd love an excuse to buy Harvest Moon on DS. Does anyone know some more specific differences between it and the 3DS version? Is it any good?

Gonna need to get my hamds on a copy of that Kickstarter DS title too. That one completely escaped my radar.

Can anyone share any insight into the 2 DS Zelda games? Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.

Both myself and one of my gaming buddies never paid much attention to the DS, but we both own 3DS' now and are both on a mission to pick up some of the better DS games. Wondering how the 2 Zeldas stack up.

Bought Rhythm Paradise yesterday. Im addicted to it.

You'll hear alot of mixed opinions about the DS Zeldas. Phantom Hourglass, in particular, gets alot of flack on Gaf. But I'm here to tell you not to worry about it. I thought Phantom Hourglass was absolutely fantastic. Beautifully paced, awesome controls and visuals. Loved it. I much preferred it to Spirit Tracks, but that one was pretty good too. Sailing > Train travel. Just get them man.

The DS Zeldas control like shit & are horribly boring. Those two are easily the worst Zeldas ever made and genuinely mediocre games, not just "bad Zelda games" or something.

The DS Zeldas are kind of hit and miss, but I've found that in some ways, I've almost preferred them to Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, simply because they're at least a little different, and from what I recall, they're not nearly as overly hand-holding as the Wii games.

Personally I preferred Phantom Hourglass. The sailing was actually more interesting than it was in Wind Waker from what I remember, and there are several puzzles that really make good use of the DS and are quite clever.

I'm sad to say that I never finished Spirit Tracks. The trains, while a neat idea at first, ended up really being tedious as the game wore on.

One thing that I didn't like about either game is Nintendo's usual enthusiasm for their own hardware. You control Link entirely through the stylus, and from what I can remember, there's really no reason that they couldn't have gone with the pad. The stylus works well enough, except for when you want to move to the left. Assuming you're right-handed, whenever you move to the left, your own hand ends up blocking the screen, making it pretty tough to see what's going on, which makes fighting kind of interesting.

There's also several sections that require microphone usage. The game says you have to blow into the microphone, but thankfully you can get by by just tapping/rubbing your finger on it, whatever will make some noise.

I enjoyed both DS Zeldas, but Spirit Tracks felt like more the complete game, whereas I walked away from Phantom Hourglass feeling like it was more of a showcase piece for touch controls than it being a Zelda game first and foremost. I still liked it, though.

I'm 6, 7 hours-ish into Chrono Trigger DS. Never played through the game before, and so far the storytelling and music is as good as everyone says they are. The battle system is cool but on the easy side (again, so far).

game's pretty easy yeah, so you're at 600 A.D?

I'm actually back at
1000 A.D. in the "Fiends have won the war" reality. Just entered the cave.

edit: HA! Minutes after saying the game was on the easy side, I got my ass ended to me by
The mini-boss monster thing in the aforementioned cave.

haha you gotta be mindful of the stances iirc

Not sure what you mean by stance. Anyway, I was damaging him consistently but my healer couldn't keep up with the hurt he was laying on me.

Time to try again!

edit: Nevermind, just figured out the stance thing.

Ah, just beat this game for the first time a few weeks ago.

Amazing game.

I posted this elsewhere, but I'll post it again:

It'll be in stock according to amazon on Aug 28 for $20. I bought two copies a week ago when they were listed as temporarily out of stock, and they showed up a week later.

I found Phantom boring just because you keep going back to the same dungeon over and over. Not sure why but that really killed the game for me. It was a fun game besides that and I'm not a Zelda fan.

Chrono Trigger question:

I'm playing through the game for the first time (around the 10 hours mark) and something has been bugging me for the last few hours;
I don't understand how the two different 1000 A.D. timelines relate to each other. In the fiend-dominated reality, there is some sort of wind gust inside a cave that sends me right back to the regular humans-dominated reality. What?

Without spoiling anything, can anyone at least confirm that this will be explained later down the line, or did I miss something?

There are not two 1.000 AD timelines, just one. It just happens that the town of Medina is inhabitted by mystics/fiends, and the whirlpool just takes you to another place in the world map of the same era, not to a different era or reality.

I ended buying it from an Amazon 3rd party seller back then, bought it new, $44.00, and received a used copy with just a new package, good news? Amazon gave me a full refund but I got to keep the game, so it's like I got an used copy for free. :p

XBOX - RECORD ME LOVING DOWN MY WOMAN GOOD
I have visited this thread so many times in the last couple weeks but never subscribed for some reason. Had to keep searching for it. Not any more!

As a new DSi XL owner this has been invaluable. Though I have been saddened by the lack of localization of some awesome looking titles.

I own a 3DS XL as well but the DSi XL has been the best displayer of DS games hands down. Big, bright and crisp. Wish I had bought one years ago at this point. So many titles to cat h up on!

I feel the same way. The DSi XL is very much worth the purchase even if you own a 3DS, because it's by far the best way to look at DS games. I got one a few days after buying my 3DS XL, and I have been playing it a lot more. Especially in terms of RPGs, the DS library is a beast and well, the genre hasn't really kicked off yet on 3DS.
