Wow, not a fan of Halo but that should be pretty awesome. Too bad no A&B tracks.

Oh and that Armin show was fucking incredible. Hands down the best trance set I have ever heard. Almost no trousey songs, just pure euphoric trance. Amazing. Armin is still the king.

Definitely not a fan of Halo but would be interested to hear the Anjuna guys remixing some tracks off their album (also the album apparently contains Gui Boratto remixes? Nice...)

Electric Zoo was pretty nice, but a lot of the trancey guys went pretty trouse, Ferry being the star example. Above and Beyond played 2 nights and rocked it both nights, they had a Neil Armstrong tribute on Friday that was pretty badass. Sasha was the standout performance of the festival, as well as Apparat.

DJ Tiesto - 1999-12-31 - Energy 2000, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQYn3YGLod0&feature=related.

I could listen to it for hours.

Yeah, his last two sets at the ASOT birthdays have been awesome.

His Essential Mix was pretty good as well, but nothing will ever touch his 94 Goa Mix.

2 of my favorite sets ever \m/

Oakenfold has been surprising me a lot lately.. playing some more J00F influenced music... although he still plays trouse and electro. But it's so nice to see after failed mainstream aspirations, he somewhat went back to his roots. "Tokyo" (the Beatman and Lyudmila mix) is great.

Yes! Don't forget 'The Politics of Dancing' as well. Recently I've been listening to some old livesets, and I still think Paul van Dyk live @ Cream Amnesia Ibiza 2002 is still one of the best livesets ever. So many beautiful tunes and so much energy. It can be found on YouTube these days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnTj48BYcZQ
It's also bizarre to see that back in the day, people were not afraid to make just a 'filler' track. Do they even still exist?
It has Solid Sleep - Club Attack (TPOD Mix) and so much many other great tunes.

Have this PvD set on my iPhone, was listening to it on the way home tonight in fact.

Huge fan of the bolded tracks above.

Saw Gareth Emery live a few weeks back (3rd time), was a great show. I too was not that high on The Saga but hearing it go off live, I'm starting to like it.

Andy Moor next week - pretty excited to finally see him live!

Pretty much any song is great live, I feel like. I wasn't a huge fan of W&W's latest, like Moscow, Invasion, Shotgun, but hearing them at Armin was amaaaaaaaazing. Those are some awesome tracks.

Armin was doing some air guitar stuff when this was playing haha, classic.

Oh yea, and this dude recorded the majority of Armin's set last week. So amazing, I just keep rewatching them.

2'30'', one of the best breakdowns i've ever heard

Indeed - I couldn't wait to buy it - got it on Amazon at the stroke of midnight. (It's funny how they can do that with presumably thousands of songs, yet Sony can't do it with a handful of PSN games)

Anyway, I don't think anyone has mentioned Crystal Clouds

http://www.crystalclouds.com/

It's a site that hosts DJ mixes with the permission of the DJ (Aly & Fila are about the most famous), and has a news feed on new singles and such with previews on youtube.

They just had their 9th anniversary, and there are all sorts of great and really long sets, including a 10 hour vocal trance set and a lot of 3 hours and 5 hour ones.

Could anyone tell me what sort of trance this is or if it is at all? I don't know much about the genre and I mostly listen to techno and house.

kölsch feat troels abrahamsen - all that matters

I would say progressive house. Kinda like trance, but often a little slower and the melody is part of the rhythm of the track

This was the set that got me into Trance in the first place. The version I had of it was from an Australian radio show, but at some point I found a version of it without the DJ, but for some reason it goes on for an extra 90 mins after the last track. So damn goooooooooood (gonna listen again tonight I think)

Yes! There was a time where all I would listen to we're these classic trance live sets. This one was so damn good. I bought at least 3 vinyls featured in that set including Club Attack. Other must hear sets I'd listen to:

Tiesto Trance Energy 2000
http://youtu.be/aQYn3YGLod0

Paul Oakenfold Essential Mix 1999 @ Gatecrasher
http://youtu.be/a35iQkCe0hI

Paul Oakenfold Essential Mix 1999 @ Space
http://youtu.be/XJ8sH7xgULU

Really all of the Oakenfold 99 sets were amazing.

EDIT: My bad just saw the Energy 2000 set was posted above.

I've recently discovered Art of Trance (Simon Berry), and he's quickly become one of my most played artists in my playlist.

When I say "discovered", I mean actually digging deeper into his work. I've listened to his big hits for years but didn't really think to go beyond that.

Some of it's not really trance, but whatevs, it's all good.

Some of my current favourites are:

Orange - http://youtu.be/b5GUHlYdzCA

Hummer - http://youtu.be/Kbi6Mxlng3Y

Golden Rain - http://youtu.be/4RwMqtl7hXo

Gloria - http://youtu.be/XC_BhDYrzBU

Oh Arty...what happened to you. I barely got any songs with the style that I loved before he went all big room/house.

This is fantastic. Armin's Gaia tracks sound like this if that's what you like. He played so much of this melodic trance style when I saw him a few weeks ago, loved it.

Yeah I definitely keep up with the vets from the 90s including Armin. Everyone except tiesto lol.

Paul Oakenfold is really underrated nowadays ... its really sad that he always ends up lke #56 on the top 100 Dj's while david guetta is #1. Really cringe worthy

I almost never hear anything about Oakenfold. He doesn't do any of the big shows from what I see. Top100 is just a popularity contest, can't win if he doesn't show up. If Guetta is #1 again there will be hell to pay. I predict Armin takes back his rightful spot.

Wow, I just discovered this thread.

Anjunabeats' Halo 4 trance/remix album? Yup!

Another discovery! I mostly love what Marty O'Donnell did throughout the series so I'm very intrigued about what Halo 4's soundtrack (and the game in general) will be like. I've only heard snippets so I have no idea how well it lends itself to a trance remix album but I love the idea, and that it's been done makes me hopeful about both. Apparently samples from each were released a month ago (I have to wait until I get home to check them out):

http://soundcloud.com/neil-davidge/sets

The box set sounds really nice, if I dig the samples I'll consider grabbing one just for the vinyl (although it's $75, so probably not).

Last year was my first time but I only went on Sunday, so this was my first year going on all three days. It was grueling, due particularly to the various substances I ate (I don't know if NeoGAF frowns on such talk, I'll censor myself accordingly later if the answer is yes), but I had a blast. Everything that I saw on Friday was in the Group Therapy tent but I didn't show up until just before Norin & Rad so I missed several hours. I enjoyed Ferry but when Mat Zo's entrance synced with
me coming up on molly for the first time
I discovered what "enjoyment" actually was. Above & Beyond was also great but I missed the end of their set when a friend's 3-day wristband was stolen/fell off in the crowd and I went to help him sort it out (because I felt like I could heal the world at that point). In fact it didn't get sorted out and he had to buy Saturday and Sunday passes again because Electric Zoo essentially told him to go fuck himself ("Go find the person who stole it", one staffer sneeringly said to me). It was a shitty end to what was ultimately my favorite day.

On Saturday I saw Eco then some of Arnej before I was separated from my group in the ridiculously overpopulated crowd and spent the next couple of hours alone laughing, sweating, sitting, staring, being frightened, and generally avoiding the stages thanks to a long but mostly pleasant shroom trip. I was up and moving for Sasha but I definitely stayed on the sidelines for a while before that. I needed the rest, though, because an hour into A&B's set that night we left for the Markus Schulz afterparty at the Best Buy theater, which ended up being my second favorite experience of the weekend and lasted until 3-4AM. Everyone I was with needed to sit down by like 2:30 so thanks to resting during the day (and the MDA I ate when A&B came out) I was the last man standing.

Sunday was easily the worst day, partly because I was exhausted from Markus Schulz, partly because I ate a firecracker (which killed the little energy I had left), and partly because there were more douches in attendance than on any other day. Boys Noize was the final hurrah for me, after that I couldn't wait to leave Diplo's set and go to sleep.

I admire people that fully appreciate trance, and EDM in general, while sober but I didn't feel like I understood the music or the culture behind it (such as kandi beads) until I rolled on Friday. When I got home on Monday night I watched these three videos of Mat Zo's entrance and each one made me literally weep as I remembered saying to my friend: "I get it, I get it. I understand. I understand what this is all about." I barely understand the distinctions of various EDM genre classifications and I also barely care about learning them, which makes finding new electronic music difficult, but I don't think that the EDM that I enjoyed before that weekend (such, as, this), is trance. Before that weekend I only enjoyed the title track from Tri-State (someone played it the first time I tripped, as I rode in a car while it rained, and I fell in love), but since then I've listened to the first half of Group Therapy almost every day... And by "listened" I mean "sit-danced while driving 80mph" and "passionately sung along to the lyrics that weeks before I thought were utterly trite".

Since Electric Zoo I've been fiending for more and now I'm faced with a dilemma: Armin is playing in DC in October and members of my new "trance family" that I met at EZoo are trying to convince me to go. The trip would ultimately cost me about $150 and 5-6 hours travel each way (I live in CT). I already declined the invitation but I'm having second thoughts because I really want to go, it's just... $150 and a ton of driving/sitting on a bus all for one night. Would it be worth it?

Also, I made a cue and threw up a download link for another Armin solo set from earlier in the month in Ibiza. Lots of nice prog and minimalist stuff for the first hour.
