Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

Yea, I kinda don't understand his argument, but the clips were great. It's insane the amount of skill to perfectly get an "instasplode" off for triples and overs.

I think he was trying to say that the nades played a much more crucial part in the skill part of the game than they do in Reach. Like you could use them as part of your skillset against people who might have better aim but not as talented with nades. Or the other team might have a better shot, but yours was better because you coordinated and planned out the usage of your nades better to your advantage. It was a simple feature that led to tons of depth in the gameplay between lower and higher levels of skill and competition.

I used to absolutely love Rare when I was younger.

Killer Instinct
Conker's Bad Fur Day
GoldenEye 007
Banjo Kazooie
Donkey Kong
Blast Corps
Diddy Kong Racing

and somehow that turned into..

Kinect Sports.

Fuck you Microsoft.

Don't forget Banjo-Tooie, Perfect Dark, and Jet Force Gemini.

Rare during that period was untouchable and on a level no other dev has ever reached.

I think the last good Rare game was Perfect Dark Zero. That was the first game I had for the 360 and I thought it was really good. Don't talk shit bout Perfect Dark

Yea there's a whole lot more (sequels and such) I just kind of went from memory. I could really use some kickass rare games right now.

Why was it cancelled?

Development hell. Mostly completed then sat on for the 360 launch.

This is a screenshot of Perfect Dark Zero in 2004. On Xbox. The project was in so much disarray that it still had GameCube UI in it.

dat Legacy as default

People talking shit about Viva Piñata?

Seriously though, the soundtrack in those games are so good.

Banjo-Tooie... the game that introduced me to console videogames. I never even got to play it myself, just watch my friends play it because my parents were and are of the firm persuasion that video games come straight from the darkest pit of hell, but I still miss Banjo-Tooie. Great game.

Should have made use of the Blast Corps IP and used the JBomb instead of the Mantis.

For real, name one company with that many games that good in such a short period? Nintendo themselves maybe?

That's exactly who I was thinking of actually lol. I could name so many Nintendo games that Rare's best game doesn't come close to.

Well I mean Nintendo's are usually more spaced out though. I just think it's crazy how many great games came out in such a short time frame.

Oh god, if I saw a kid wearing a jersey like that in public...

People wearing oversized jerseys in general bother me. I generally think that people should be given wide latitude on clothing, but there's some stuff that just makes you look like a tool.

Nothing grinds my gears more than a baseball cap that has been slightly angled to the side, and sagging skinny jeans.

Also, no offense to A7X fans, but those shirts make you look creepy :p.

Nice. Top of page.

MANTIS.

Yeah they probably had good reasons to drop it, but I think the organization shouldn't control a playlist in the game either way, it needs to be controlled by the competitive community as a whole somehow.

I already mentioned upthread that I'd start by adding hardcore community Cartographers to be focused on building that playlist's content.

Serious question: how do you decide what representatives of the competitive "community" (scare quotes because it is quite fractured) are wielding that influence? MLG's control of hardcore gametypes was arbitrary, but would it be any less arbitrary than a group of community members up their own butts with responsibility? MLG were far from ideal arbiters, but putting community members in control could be even more disastrous, unless endless Onslaught remakes is your bag.
