Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Damn. Still worth it. Is OpenCMA working for you now?

I haven't bothered with fixing it at the moment, I'll do it later. I gotta get ready for work.

What happens if you have an ISO on the Vita, but then you delete it on the PC side and transfer over? Does the one on the Vita get deleted too? ( Provided you didn't choose "move this game to ms0:\ISO?" when you launched it)

If it's already on the PSP2, you're fine. Otherwise you screwed up.

Doesn't matter if you moved it to ms0:\ISO or not. Once it's on your hardware you're fine provided you don't delete the gamesave exploit or your copy of it.

Also the exploit will pick up your PSN purchases in addition to your UMD rips. Ballin'

Then... how do I delete stuff that I actually want gone?

What do you want gone? The gamesave in the iso? The iso? The exploit? I'm not understanding what you want gone.

I didn't want orphaned ISOs that I had no way to delete, hence my original question. Don't worry about it, though, I figured it all out on my own.

Oh, your stuff won't be orphaned if you don't delete the exploit.

Wait, how do you delete stuff from the Vita's save folder?

Once in the CFW, you can press triangle on a game and it asks you if you want to delete it.

As for the answer to my original question, I was right: every time you transfer from your PC to the Vita, the entire folder is overwritten. That means if you do not copy the game to ms0:\ISO when it asks, then you will lose it if you delete it on the PC side and then do another transfer.

Is there a good tutorial for getting emulators to work or a list of working emulators? I am not seeing anything on wololo, maybe I am missing it? Using the MBA exploit.

Just so you guys know, it is easy to set up FTP with the Vita and just transfer stuff over that way. Doing it like that makes the whole setup exactly like a PSP -- don't have to worry about cords or re-transferring over the save again and again.

This stuff all works (to varying degrees). I tried MAME, CPS2, and SNES -- MAME didn't run the games I wanted it to and CPS2 was glitchy (may have been my game), but SNES is great. Link to the Past looks amazing.

Hohohoho, really?

Explain the process for the class, please. Because I'd love to not have to use the ass-tastic CMA for this.

Install this

http://wololo.net/downloads/index.php/download/7673

Using the typical add-to-save-game method.

Once it is installed, run it and it will give you an FTP address. Go to that address in Windows Explorer (or through an FTP client) and you'll be able to see your PSP sandbox layout. You can add and delete stuff easily through there.

how do you add files to save game.. im confused?

Just put them in the directory with the exploit, and when you transfer the save data from PC to Vita, it will copy the additional files as well.

But what's up with moving games to ms0:\ISO? Trying to move a game, but the screen just flashes and all the buttons except the PS button go unresponsive. They do wake up the Vita when the screen dims, but they don't actually do anything on the menu.

Part of the issue with some stuff right now is that it is in prepackaged zip files setup to be used with previous exploits and the structure of the files in these zips is not proper for the way things need to be going forward, so sometimes stuff needs to be moved around manually a bit.

In general, you want ISO files to be in root ISO folder and everything else (programs) to be in PSP/GAME/(programname)/(all files including eboot here)

Where exactly do I place the ULES01456DAT1 folder?

Unzip the INSTALL.ZIP in there. Take all the files (4 of them - data, icon0, param, and eboot) and place them together in a folder called FTP (make sure its caps). Place THAT folder into a folder called GAME (again, caps) and place THAT folder into a folder called PSP (caps).

So you should have PSP > GAME > FTP > inside are 4 files.

Take the root PSP file and compress it to a ZIP file by right-clicking it. You will get a file called PSP.zip. Change this to PSP.ZIP (zip to caps). Once you have this PSP.ZIP, put it in the save game folder where your exploit is. Use CMA to transfer it to your Vita (overwrite when prompted -- size should be bigger than before).

Run the Mini and it should pop up.

Let me know if this works for you.

Gotta love Sony... lots of great PSP games still not for sale on the Vita PSN, but they'll pull urbanix and Mad Blocker Alpha from PSN within hours of an exploit being discovered.

Love those priorities.

So yeah kinda bummed i missed out on buying one of those games so I can put KH:BBS on my Vita

So when running PSP games through this, do we get the same emulator options as running actual PSP games from the store?

It worked! Does all homebrew stuff need to be installed this way?

They removed the game from the NA store.
I clicked buy now, was asked for my password which I forgot, went to the SEN site to change my password, and when I entered the new one I received an error. I assumed it was something to do with my password change, so I backed out of the store. Entered the store again and typed the name in search and it was no where to be found.

Literally seconds from going through.

Now that you've installed FTP you can just do it all through there!

Launch the FTP app on your Vita

Connect to it on your computer (Windows Explorer or an FTP App -- just use the ftp://..... address it gives you)

You'll see your full PSP layout

Just drag and drop stuff where you want it on your file directory (ISOs into the ISO folder, programs in their own folder into the PSP/GAME/ folder)

I wonder what the battery life is running PSP through the exploit versus the official PSP emulator?

Considering the "exploit" IS just the PSP emulator, I would be surprised if it wasn't exactly the same.

What kind of speeds can we expect with FTP?
When I tried to FTP with Filezilla using the settings in the readme, I was getting ~100kb.
A bit slow if you want to transfer a large file.

They do. They can pull their games down in an instant, is that not control?
It is no secret that Sony relentlessly stomps out any hacking or modding attempts with precision and speed not seen on other platforms. How about more efforts to encourage game releases? I suppose that is more difficult.
Ease of access is the secret to curbing piracy... not this.
Completely expected giving their history on this matter, but that doesn't exempt criticism.

You'll get whatever your max upload speed is if you're doing it via remote IP. If you can find out your Vita's local IP, it'll go much faster.

I was getting 750-1000kb/sec (this will probably depend on your computer, router, and the distance between the two). It still isn't SUPER fast (1gig ISO took like 15 minutes) but it works and is easier than the alternatives imo.

That's control of their own store.
Not what 3rd parties supply to them and allow to be put for sale.

Okay, just got a Vita with 1.61 firmware, now that this stuff should support emulators (honestly, I'm mostly excited about playing GBC games like Links Awakening on this thing), are there any good guides on how to install this custom firmware on a european 1.61 vita? Also, is it safe to update through the PSN store atm?

Umm.... did you get either of the games needed for the exploit?

Thanks man. One more thing. I don't have an ISO folder anywhere. Is it created when I add an ISO to the MBA save folder or can I make one myself?

Edit: Or is PSP>Game the ISO folder?

Edit: Figured it out. Thanks!

I hace some questions to you guys..

Is there some risk of "bricking" the vita with doing something wrong in the worst case scenario?

Crisis Core and Birth by Sleep work?

Considering it's all sandboxed, I doubt the risk of bricking it is any higher than playing a PSP game on the system.

And it looks like both of those games work.

I'm having a hard time properly getting the ftp app to work. I tried putting the save folder with the PSP.ZIP archive in there. The archive in the directory where the all the files are. No dice when I transfer. I can't see it.
