Best Couples in Videogames

Most videogame romances are so lamely written. Drake and Elena and Jackie and Jenny are the only decent ones that come to mind (Though I'm sure I'm forgetting some).

EDIT:

Yes I did. Digital Devil Saga. Sera and Serph.

I am surprised no one mentioned this

Alice_and_Yuri.jpg

It is Yuri and Alice from the original Shadow Hearts. Their relationship continued even in part 2 and had one very emotional scene which made me cry :'(

Chris and Jill is the worst crack pairing of all. 6 or so games and there's no hint of them actually liking each other that way but fans put them together anyway for no other reason that they are the male and female lead of a franchise. At least Leon/Ada Wong is actually canon and has been on-going plot since the first time the two characters were introduced.

Well, there's this from the original RE1:

Given that Barry was Chris' old friend, it is kind of weird that it is Jill who worries much more about whether Chris is alive or not.

Also, when playing as Claire in RE2, when you click on Chris' desk she comments one of the pictures by saying "that's probably his girlfriend" (or something like that).

Of course, that's still theories and all...
Or maybe Chris is indeed so dumb he can't get a clue and simply friendzones Jill.
Or he is gay >_>

It's your fault for not playing the last good Suikoden.

Screw 4 and 5.

While I liked 2 and 3 more, I would eat a seven course meal out of Konami's dumpster for another Suikoden as good as 5. Hell, I would even take another 4 at this point, as long as it's set in the actual Suikoden world.

I think it's just another caso of RE writers being awful at romances.

Seriously, most RE take place in a short span of time, in situations that leave little space for romances, and yet they still try to go for it. (Claire x Steve was awful, Ada knew Leon for like 2 hours...)

I think RE Let's Play from Dark Id did a good job at parodying these relationships.

Man, all those great Ada/Leon team-up moments. Like...the time they fought off William stabbing through the roof of the cable car and... That one zombie they both shot... Oh, don't forget riding down that elevator together. That was riveting.

"I... I..."
"Yes, Claire...?
"I... L..."
"Go...on..."
"Like met you yesterday..."

As always, posting pictures without annotating what the subject is is super helpful.

Not recognizing Suikoden III is a bigger problem. :p

They didn't exactly remain a COUPLE for long though.

The things I'd do for a proper Suikoden 6...

Tell me what Hudson seasoned with the careers of dozens of talented developers with a side of abandoned franchises tastes like when you do.

My problem with Lenneth and Lucian is that you're reliant on the "her past as Platina"... and most of them is implied.

Which is why I like Alicia and Rufus more. You actually see them progress.
Albeit they never ended up together

I didn't feel alicia and rufus really progressed that well. the fact that
Lenneths love for lucien as platina was able to break the block on her memory I think was a good show of how much they did love each other. It transcended lives. Seeing lenneth go from cold and stoic to extremely emotional as well was a bit of a shock.

I hated squall and rinoa. Though I hated the vast majority of FFVIII. I think it might be one of my least liked role playing games. I thought the love story felt extremely forced (though a lot of the story felt that way to me) and was pretty bad for a game that touted its love story. I don't have a problem with love stories in games, but I just didn't like it in 8. I thought star ocean 2 which came out the same year was way better in this regard. The claude and rena relationship had a lot of ups and downs, and you got to see it slowly progress over the course of the game.

People saying Crono and Marle is just baffling. He doesn't even have a personality! I know video game standards are low, but sheesh.

I suppose it can be hard to distill a deep personality out of someone of such few words, but there are a lot of silent protagonists in this thread; what makes him any different? Actions alone can speak volumes :) And even though he doesn't talk, she sure does!

For silent protagonists I always thought the main character from suikoden 2 was done very well with this. Probably my favorite silent hero followed by Tir. (particularly that scene in 2 with Tir, where he's afraid to look for the boy for fear his rune will take the boys soul)

Someone, I forget who, had posted this a number of years back on here while I was still lurking, and I had bookmarked it:

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Garrus + Shepard make for a surprisingly believable couple. He wasn't my pick, but within context of their characters and stories he's the most logical and believable romance arc.

Female MC X Aigis in P3P
Basically Aigis is your waifu and you want to be a woman. :p

But Shepard is a lesbian!

I don't like silent protagonists (aka player surrogates) in general.

Came here to post this. These two had it all figured out.

John Marsten and Abigail are a close second.

This one was...different. Truth be told, there wasn't much between them at all, Serph being a silent protagonist and all. You don't really get what they're all about until they
become Seraph. A love so strong that they fused into a single entity.
It has a certain romance to it.
Also probably the first hermaphroditic player character in gaming.
Am I wrong?

Eppy Thatcher

God's had his chance.
Balthier and Fran is actually a really good call. Those two were pretty solid before/during/after the events of the game. Like lifelong badass parts of a whole for the mehjority of their lives.

Trish and Dante for big pimpin.

Rachel x Ragna for the CT arc of the story is depressing as fuck.
for Rachel, as she retained memories of the time loop happening and got to watch him grow up and die over and over and over
